I also felt like the black parade was the highlight of MCR. I really love the band and Danger Days and Conventional Weapons are pretty good, but especially Danger Days isn't My Chemical Romance, if you ask me. It would have been an happy ending, if MCR broke up with "The black parade is dead", since it would have been the most honest way saying good bye. (My opinion, don't blame me, if you disagree) Still i'm grateful that they didn't, because if they broke up that early, I may never have heard of My Chemical Romance. I don't think they really broke up, but with Black Parade died also the old MCR. Some bands are able to evolve and change completely, and they kind of did that with Danger Days, but MCR just wasn't made for that type of music.

Many people I've heard have said that Danger Days isn't and wasn't My Chemical Romance but, I don't think you can say that because if you think a band changes its sound and that's no longer them, you are very mistaken. Being a band isn't about picking one thing and sticking to it, it's about making music and being daring and doing different things that are you no matter how different they are from each part of you that you've put out before. Some people have also said that MCR should have broken up right after The Black Parade album and called it over, if they had broken up right after The Black Parade then it wouldn't have seemed incomplete to me; of all albums i believe Conventional Weapons brings the most closure. The lyrics of the songs and the way that they released it 2 by 2 worked really well. The song that i think really did it for me and made me feel complete was The Light Behind Your Eye, it just brings the band to a stop with the particular lyrics in that particular song. Gerard used to tell all of the fans that even when the band ends the music will be there for you and he will be there for you although ti still is important to move on and i think that TLBYE kind of delivered that saying that like if he could hold on he would but its time to go. The thing is that it also could have worked well with Helena(so long and goodnight) or with Famous Last Words it could have worked well with The Kids From Yesterday or maybe even Head First For Halos but the thing is it didn't end that way. MCR finished strong they did well and they still are they're being discovered every day and personally they're my favorite breakup band ever. Anyway those are my thoughts and I think that this is a good debate thing going on in the comments.

Honestly, it would be a sin for Gerard not to pursue musical endeavors after MCR. He's too damn talented. It sucks that they're over and done with, yeah. I spent my teenage years listening to nothing but them. They honestly changed my life. It felt like they were growing up with me. Even when I started paying less and less attention to them, they still had a special place in my heart. They always will. But this just proves that nothing lasts forever. It fucking sucks, but it's the truth. Every single band or artist has a shelf life. I still haven't listened to them since the breakup because they bring back way too many personal memories for me, but I've more or less accepted it. MCR is done. They had a great run but now it's time to let them go. Everyone needs to accept that. And contrary to popular belief, no, Gerard doesn't owe anybody shit. He doesn't owe you a long, detailed explanation on why MCR broke up, and his solo work does not have to pander to fans and sound like the exact same thing as the band. After My Chemical Romance broke up, I was sad and angry, but seeing his happiness as well as his new music really made me feel better. Personally, I think his new album is a mixture of Danger Days and his new stuff. I really like it. When artists from bands break up and go solo, I always hear their new stuff and not like it at first and have to really do a double take before I end up liking it. I feel like all of their self is gone at first and it takes me a while to accept the new them. My history with the band: I was in like 1st grade and my brother and his friend always listened to dead! not because they like the band but just because they thought it was a really cool metal song. After that I didn’t think to actually look into the band. 5 years later, I am 11 years old and I heard the song in an artist impressions video and finally looked it up. Bro, as a guy that was in 8th grade when Black Parade came out, I'm just glad you're generation is catching on to the stuff a tad bit before your time. There was a lot of cool stuff coming out at that time, music was changing, for better or worse. Just like it is now. Keep listening to old stuff, and continue to embrace new stuff. There's all sorts of great music in this archive called RUclips. MCR was really cool to experience in real time. But hey!! Good news! I just saw them live the other day, first show of the tour in OKC, it was amazing! They might come to a venue near you, check! They did get back together!!! It just took way too long
For some reason I feel a lot better watching this interview and reading about his view of the black parade and how it should have been the end, because i too always felt like it should have. like so many of the fans, i grew up listening to these guys and really appreciating their music and their message. IMO greatest band ever. unfortunately i never got to go see them in concert, but when i heard their last album something just didn't sit right. its awesome how he is able to stick by danger days but he is also really realistic about what he thought the band would come to. i personally don't understand when people say they want MCR back. what would be the point if none of the guys had any passion for it? then it would be like a sellout and it would go against everything they stood for.
I love the 2014 interviews that had this really uncomfortable close up on the stars face. BUT I stuck through it the whole two and a half minutes just because mcr is.... my life right now...
I don't think My Chemical Romance really went beyond Black Parade. They created the band to make an impression, to help people but also help themselves, and this is what they did; they now all have families, they're happy with their solo careers, and all of this thanks to the band, but MCR is not made for this kind of music. Everyone in the band changed during the years, until playing together wasn't their thing anymore, and I think it all happened with Black Parade. It is such an intense album, inspiring, and that truly riflects what they were at the time, kinda like some sort of rivelation, and it had that effect on everyone. This is why they had to take their times after finishing touring, and this is why it took so long to record Danger Days and also why it's so different from the other albums; MCR wasn't totally over after Black Parade, but they had certanly changed in an irriversible way in that period, and that changment slowly brought them to the break up. The old MCR was dead way before 2013. (I'm not saying Danger Days was in any way worse than Black Parade, they're both beautiful but also so different I don't even compare them).

Conventional Weapons sounds like MCR, but Danger Days definitely doesn't, it's Gerard and Frank, depending on which song you're listening too (more Gerard). That's ok, it's a good album, but they were all more than ready to go and do their own thing. Good for them. Onwards and upwards.

Gerard makes me think of Billy Corgan a lot. Obviously with his looks, but even with his mannerisms and his voice and the way he does interviews. It's crazy.
Billy even made a joke about it once about how he had a son and that his son was having so much success with his band My Chemical Romance it made him want to get back in the game and rock out with his son.

After My Chemical Romance broke up, I was sad and angry, but seeing his happiness as well as his new music really made me feel better. Personally, I think his new album is a mixture of Danger Days and his new stuff. I really like it. When artists from bands break up and go solo, I always hear their new stuff and not like it at first and have to really do a double take before I end up liking it. I feel like all of their self is gone at first and it takes me a while to accept the new them. As for Gerard Way, I immediately liked his new stuff and it reminded me strongly of My Chemical Romance and it still does. For that I am happy.
I totally agree ^-^ Most people who liked MCR before they listened to Hesitant Alien always rant about how he's changed and how they don't like it, but I honestly love it a bunch. I miss MCR like heck, but Gerard's new album is seriously the greatest.

Amelia Palmer okay gerard never changed he's been inspired by brit pop before mcr even started. i get he wants to do a bowie sorta thing but at the same time give mcr a farewell tour i mean really he's already talking about solo album number 2 sometimes i just want to slap some sense into him to just end what you started the right way. you have literally people 9 years old, 11 years younger than me going i wish i could of seen them live. I personally believe they will get back together and that this break up is more of a hiatus for the fact there is no farewell tour if you break up go out with a little bit of a bang. sorry i rambled too much. I liked the new album but the guitar player is no where near as talented as ray and it kinda dampens the vibe alittle.

Green Day isn't breaking. Billie Joe said something like "nobody's leaving the band unless they leave in a coffin." Anyway, the trilogy did great, and I'm looking forward to their next album. ^.^

My history with the band:
I was in like 1st grade and my brother and his friend always listened to dead! not because they like the band but just because they thought it was a really cool metal song. After that I didn’t think to actually look into the band. 5 years later, I am 11 years old and I heard the song in an artist impressions video and finally looked it up. Ever since then I have loved this band so much and hated myself for not listening to them before they broke up.

Bro, as a guy that was in 8th grade when Black Parade came out, I'm just glad you're generation is catching on to the stuff a tad bit before your time. There was a lot of cool stuff coming out at that time, music was changing, for better or worse. Just like it is now.
Keep listening to old stuff, and continue to embrace new stuff.

MCR was really cool to experience in real time. But hey!! Good news! I just saw them live the other day, first show of the tour in OKC, it was amazing! They might come to a venue near you, check! They did get back together!!! It just took way too long
For some reason I feel a lot better watching this interview and reading about his view of the black parade and how it should have been the end, because i too always felt like it should have. like so many of the fans, i grew up listening to these guys and really appreciating their music and their message. IMO greatest band ever. unfortunately i never got to go see them in concert, but when i heard their last album something just didn't sit right. its awesome how he is able to stick by danger days but he is also really realistic about what he thought the band would come to. i personally don't understand when people say they want MCR back. what would be the point if none of the guys had any passion for it? then it would be like a sellout and it would go against everything they stood for.
I love the 2014 interviews that had this really uncomfortable close up on the stars face. BUT I stuck through it the whole two and a half minutes just because mcr is.... my life right now...
Black Parade was so good
I don't think My Chemical Romance really went beyond Black Parade. They created the band to make an impression, to help people but also help themselves, and this is what they did; they now all have families, they're happy with their solo careers, and all of this thanks to the band, but MCR is not made for this kind of music. Everyone in the band changed during the years, until playing together wasn't their thing anymore, and I think it all happened with Black Parade. It is such an intense album, inspiring, and that truly riflects what they were at the time, kinda like some sort of rivelation, and it had that effect on everyone. This is why they had to take their times after finishing touring, and this is why it took so long to record Danger Days and also why it's so different from the other albums; MCR wasn't totally over after Black Parade, but they had certanly changed in an irriversible way in that period, and that changment slowly brought them to the break up. The old MCR was dead way before 2013. (I'm not saying Danger Days was in any way worse than Black Parade, they're both beautiful but also so different I don't even compare them).

Conventional Weapons sounds like MCR, but Danger Days definitely doesn't, it's Gerard and Frank, depending on which song you're listening too (more Gerard). That's ok, it's a good album, but they were all more than ready to go and do their own thing. Good for them. Onwards and upwards.

I actually thought for a while that The Black Parade was their last album. It did kinda have that finish to it. Their albums in general is just kinda like a life. The revenge days being the teenage years and just when you get hurt or wronged as a child or teen, but then the Danger Days would have been after that like a rebellious stage or "dangerous," stage in someone's life. Then eventually their life would come to an end. (black parade days)Just kinda of made sense.

I love your opinion, but Gerard loves what he is doing right now. I am so sad about the breakup, but they're all doing their own thing now. I'm sad to see that Gee's Hesitant Alien albums aren't like the ones MCR made, but he likes it.
Maybe read the explanation letter he wrote following the split. Other than that, he doesn't owe you anything because why would he? Enjoy what remains and let the guy be happy. He looks a lot more interested in his solo material than he did with MCR at the end of the the Danger Days Tour cycle.
