In my steel soul run, I was just kind of cruising cause I assumed that because the Path of Pain was in a DREAM, it wouldn't be game over if I died. Let's just say my copy of Hollow Knight was not played for a good 3 months.
That actually gives us a big insight into the lore. Before, we weren't totally sure if the WP in the Kingsmould's head was just a dream version or the real deal, but if you can permadie in the White Palace then that means it's not just a dream. Curse you Team Cherry, but also gotta give it to them for the really nice touch
I swear i was playing steel soul for the first time, and it was pretty late, like 1 am. I made it to the big grey rock thing, basically before the abyss i forgot how its called . I then died on broken vessel. But what gave me a big creep was the death screen, there's something so unsettling about this game over screen. I got several chills down my spine first time i saw it
Ah, this reminded me of my 112% minus PotH save file I lost just because I panicked and died to Kingsmoulds. Have never touched the game since. Nice times, nice times...
What!!! I did PoP on my steel soul file! That's bullshit! I could have lost everything I went to 1 hp on the kingsmolds at the end. Holy fuck I'm lucky
i had this happen, but found a way to use a backup save that was one bench back, i'm not ashamed that that's the run i got to 100% with, because the game repeatedly tells you that dying in a dream is not game over in steel soul!
I was at 96% in the steel soul when I decided I wanted to go for the true ending, and I was really confident in myself at that point so I didn't equip grubsong + deep focus for imortality, I died at the end, with the horizontal spikes
Also, if you're wondering: Yes. I did do two Steel Soul runs to get this info

This gives dying to the kingsmoulds at the end of Path of Pain a whole different meaning
During my steel soul path of pain i was so paranoid it’d kill me that i used the kingsoul so I’d not lose my save
Can we take a moment to appreciate how this person progressed through the game until this point and die for showing us this video?

this would imply that these places are more than dream. if team cherry's pattern of gameplay==lore holds.

Thank god that White Palace is easy and Path of Pain is optional
its got to hurt like hell when you realize you can still lose your steel soul save in the White Palace the hard way
Holy crap when I did my SS run I almost died in White Palace, but I didn't think it'd end my run. Thank god I managed to survive

A few of you have asked about what happens in Godhome on Steel Soul so I made a small video on that:
Actually interesting
Neater than I expected - nice job getting through for this!
And Abyss never did Steel Soul runs ever again, for the two places to die in were now discovered to be death zones...
This happened to me when I attempted path of pain in steel soul. I ended up trying steel soul again and got 100%
