Sweet review. I've recently bought one of their Nespresso ball points as a gift for a friend but had never thought of their fountain pens. I will now have to try one out.

I would say the clip is art deco in design. It looks great on the pen.

I have one of these pens. The cap takes a bit of force to remove because it fits so tightly, but other than that I like the pen. It writes consistently and is decently smooth. I find the design attractive.

I've always wondered about the fountain pen version (i do own the neon orange ballpoint). Thank you for the review... I might pick one up if they carry a broad nib.

I've owned a Caran d'Ache Ecridor (Retro) since around 2010/11. I like it a lot more now than I used to, as steel nibs never had enough 'flex' for me back when I was so heavy-handed.
After a year it developed a slight leak from the front ring, which changed to the nib actually pulling out whenever you took the cap off. After contacting Caran d'Ache, they immediately arranged for a repair with their nearest distributor and it has worked perfectly since. It posts really well, but I still dislike the balance of it with the cap posted.
Overall, it's a very nice pen and writes really well. Now that I'm less heavy-handed though, I wish I'd gone with a broader nib than Fine.... First World Problems ;)

I have this pen (the bright yellow Version). It writes smoothly.
    What drives me crazy:
The color of the cap doesn't match the color of the barrel 100%. It's like one part has been painted more often than the other.
And the cap is rotating. But I use it for Meetings because it writes so well.

I purchased several of the 849s and all have a characteristic that I find irritating. While the cap attaches firmly the all spin on the barrel way too easily. I like to align the clip with the nib and they are so loose that they easily become misaligned.

So alert: I bought the orange neon (identical to your review) at Akkerman in Amsterdam. With the help of the very kind sales person I tested the nibs. Incredible variations between nibs marked Fine-ranged from almost Broad to Fine. Ditto on Mediums. We both (she was shocked) were amazed. So ideally buy at brick and mortar or ask internet store to test. It’s a good pen, but the variations with apparently identical nib sizes is troubling. (Btw. significantly cheaper in Europe.)

I have the neon yellow version. My pen has nib loose, its slides out of place and need to be push back after while. Also I tend to get ink on my section and because it is black, I can't see it and then I end up with inky fingers. I also have problem with section.
I like the design thought, it is really similar with their clutch pen.

I have one of these in neon yellow. You captured all the shortcomings very well, except for me I found the nib a little boring, if that makes sense. The posting and capping design (the cap designed with a thin collar that slips into the pen on either end) mirrors that of the Muji fountain pen. Not sure which came first.

Are you aware of the Monami NEO 153 fountain pen? It shares many of the strengths and weaknesses of this pen, but is a better value proposition. It's available in orange as well.

I really like almost everything about this pen and was very quick to get one when they came out. My medium nib is more like a broad and very wet and flexy. My only concideration after long time use is that maybe there are unsufficient number of threads between the plastic feedpert and barrel. It couldn´t withstand the force I put because of the flexy nib and cracked.(the palstic part) Knowing it isn´t ment to be treated this way but want to point it out anyway. I got a new one from them so that was no problem but be a little carefull when pushing down to flex.

  • @TeamFish15

Perhaps use some silicone grease on the section threads to help it stay more secure?

  • @sekund3r

The design is very reminiscent of the twsbi precision, down to the clip wrapping around the cap. Makes me wonder which came first.

After some "research" (meaning, I watched this video ruclips.net/video/Xh90GkN6hFA/видео.html) I have discovered that the 849 pen (not a fountain pen, but with the hexagonal cross section and same style clip) was introduced in the mid 1900s, though the fountain pen wasn't introduced until 2017.

Mine writes really well after I fixed the baby bottom problem with nib. good pen, but the section is far too narrow for comfort..I have to move my fingers higher up ant they rest then on the uncomfortable intersection of section and body..big step up and my fingers that hight up and I FEEL A BIT OF CONTROL LOSS WHILE WRITING. I really cannot recommend the pen..wish someone told me this before I shelled out a lot of $'s

Hello Mr David Parker, i own the neon green. It looks great, but it writes horribly. This pen skips very frequently, i. e , it doesn't have a good ink flow. please give me some advice. . --------sudhakar from INDIA.

I had a similar problem with mine and found that the tines on the nib were slightly misaligned. This can be fixed as I did by using VERY THIN brass shim stock, which you slide between the tines. That allows them to move ever so slightly back into the appropriate alignment. I hope this helps.

K Sudha If you search RUclips for nib misalignment you might find a video explaining/showing how to do this. Also, search “fountain pen baby’s bottom as that is another nib issue that might be affecting you. Either way, good luck!

The step up from grip to barrel looks awefull...
    Nice color tho..
Usually snap tops have less of a jump from grip to barrel and have large/long grip sections, thats why i like them. This one is a snap top without the benefits of one :(

I was severely disappointed in this pen.
The whole thing felt cheap and the fit and finish was awful. It posted badly, the section sucked, and the thing had no converter. It was way too thick and the section was tiny. I liked the nib and that was it.
Sold it faster than any other pen I have ever bought. This thing Is f**king garage
This pen is a pale shadow of the muji aluminum pen, which is this thing's better in every way.
