Thanks for the upload and the memories. I recall the late '60s and into the '70s when ABC ran a weekly hourlong version of Sunday highlights called College Football '69 (or College Football {INSERT YEAR HERE}) I'm shocked by how many of these names I remember, especially Clemson's team. Hadn't thought about these guys in 30 years. Thanks for the wonderful blast from the past.
2:20 Yes! Finally footage of Wisconsin's season-opening upset of #1-ranked Michigan comes up on here! Been looking for any footage from that game for the last few years.
Bill it was an incredible announcer such as Keith Jackson and I just remember watching this week in college football back in the in the seventies and the '80s and man those highlights and how you are slowed it down it's still nothing in comparison with the day football just doesn't have that same type of luster
I was born in September of 81. It’s wild to see how different college football was back then compared to when I began to get into it during the early to mid 90s, to when I entered college in 2000, and to now.
What tough OOC schedules teams played back then. It seems all the top ranked teams played each other back then instead of the soft OOC warm-ups many schedule today.
This is awesome. I haven’t seen some of this footage in years. 1981 was truly a crazy year. If Clemson had lost, would they have given a 2 loss Nebraska the crown? Or would Pitt have gotten it? I’d love to see 1983. That Jan 1st EVERY major bowl played a part in determining the national championship.
Penn St was the best team in the country at the end of the 81 season. They would win it all the following yr and I still believe 81 was the better team.
50:59 the canes players are in full strength going to their week 8 game against PSU while the nittany lions physical condition deteriorated prior to the game
Randy Dubin Yes. Canes finished 9-2, losing at ranked Texas and Mississippi State teams by a combined 11 points. On Halloween night, Miami would shock #1 Penn State in the Orange Bowl 17-14. However, a two-year probation sentence, including one-year bowl ban, ended the season without postseason play.
On probation the next year also, and finished 7-4 with Jim Kelly leading them. Which is why it was such a shock the next year that Bernie Kosar comes out of nowhere to lead them to the title.
@@90srule96 Back when they used to be called Miami of Florida (18:03) to differentiate from the comparatively more well known Miami of Ohio. Now when you say Miami people assume you're talking about the Canes, unless you say Miami of Ohio.
@@StFidjnr Iowa and Ohio State were Big Ten co-champions because the Hawkeyes and Buckeyes didn't play in 1981. Every other team in the conference played a full round-robin. Iowa went to Pasadena based upon the last appearance rule, since it hadn't been since 1958.

1981, 1990, & 2007 were the three overall wildest seasons in major-college football history in the Poll Era in recent times.
Was too young to remember 1981. But 1990 and 2007 was bonkers. I remember during the 2007 season telling people this was similar to the 1990 season.
1984 was pretty wild too...BYU ending up winning it all that year.
This is a treat to watch. Love late 70s early 80s video productions for sports. This is well done and very clean.
Need one of these for every year !
Finally some Arkansas highlights. We got left out the entire 1970s. lol
Love these PLEEZZZZZZ keep them coming

As a matter of fact, Penn State beat both Nebraska and smoked No#1 pitt to end the regular season that season

A lot of big intersectional match-ups back then
Awesome! Thank you!
This is awesome!!!!
Gerry Faust's first and last game at Notre Dame Stadium was vs. LSU.
Bookends to the Gerry Faust Error.
Dude went from coaching H.S. to Notre Dame . Arguably the most pretisgious coaching job in football in 1 year! That's insane.

Do you have or are there any other ed of year docs like this one?
Back when ND actually played a serious schedule.
Refreshing to see no directional u fcs games.
Wasn't Miami on Probation that year? I am only asking because they didn't go to a bowl game that season despite finishing 9-2 that season.

Bill Fleming was so great 👍
Good Year.
1:10:32 the penn state mascot is fired up for this game
Team of the year in 1981 had to be Iowa. They came out of nowhere.
big 10 champions
