- Crimson Peak is a 2015 Romantic goth horror film directed by Guillermo del Toro. A disappointing film for some at the time but still appreciated by many. The original Blu-ray looks spectacular, coincidentally I watched it for the first time a couple of weeks ago. In your review you're commenting that you can't imagine the Blu-ray looking anywhere near as good as the 4K but from my perspective I'm thinking I'd be surprised if the 4K can look much better than the Blu-ray ! 🙂Ultimately 4K is the superior format and we know that Arrow (almost) always do an incredible job with their transfers so I imagine this must be one of the best looking 4Ks out there. As to the movie, I wasn't sold on it myself, I found it very dull and tedious at times and laughably ridiculous at others BUT that said, my opinion can flip big time with movies like this on a second viewing if my initial expectations were thrown and if I wasn't in the "right" mood when I first saw it. The movie is visually stunning at times and you can feel the director's passion for his work throughout. Tom Hiddleston was good, Jessica Chastain was incredible ! I'm interested to see what I think of it on a second viewing ! I very much enjoyed your review !
Thank you so much for the compliment and thank you for the information on the blu ray. I actually didn’t enjoy it as much the second time. The plot is pretty ridiculous like you said and it felt like they wanted to have a twist and it didn’t entirely work. The visuals just stand out so much and the entire tone that I can overlook some of the obvious flaws.

I think that old bluray is still solid enough and you gave great extars even and the commentary track excellent one
That’s what I was wondering if people who have the old blu ray see this is as worth the price. For only visual upgrade it’s hard to justify the price.

Hate when they put the disc in the hard plastic as part of the set. I want a separate amaray case to keep disc completely covered and able to take out of the boxset. Wish they would stick to their signature chunky boxsets with the soft cover booklets. Would be cool if they did chunky boxset with amaray case with slipcover, poster, and then soft cover booklet same size as amaray case that fits slipcover with alternate artwork to swap back & forth from booklet to case.
What makes this one strange is they put a book in the hard case that they would usually put a 4K in. I’m not a huge fan of the disk at the bottom like that uncovered. It should be safe though or at least I hope so lol
I just received my copy this past Sunday. Lovely set. I already had the Universal bluray, which was quite nice but this Arrow release is awesome! I always felt that his best films were THE DEVIL’S BACKBONE and PAN’S LABYRINTH. So glad to have Criterion releases of both. I heard that the 4K of PAN isn’t very good. Hopefully Arrow will have a go at it. 🤞🏽
Funny you said that about Pans Labyrinth. That’s also my favorite from him and I don’t own it because of that 4K release. I’m afraid to buy the criterion and have a new remaster come out lol. The Devils Back bone is a great 4K! I’m really hoping after this 4K that Arrow some how gets the rights to Pans Labyrinth.
@@LetsTalkEntertainmentMedia I got the Criterion of PAN because I heard that it retains the audio mixes from the earlier Blu-ray release whereas the 4K only had one mix. The visual upgrade was supposedly not that great. The Criterion of CRONOS is quite good as well.
@harrisoncastleberry458 I love Cronos! That’s actually getting a 4K, So is Mimic and Blade 2. I’ll grab Pans Labyrinth in Julys Criterion sale then!
