Did you know the Iditarod follows the same path the real teams took? And there's this cool thing called the Iron Torch or flame. It's a torch that cannot be extinguished until the last team has made it back. It's really freaking cool.

I don't care how inaccurate this movie is in terms to what actually happened....it is my favourite non Disney animated film. Though now, I still can't help but wonder how/why these people didn't question how Balto found the missing sled team, and managed to bring the medicine back...and also why they're not questioning why two polar bears and a goose are running to greet him....

I love the moment Balto brings the hat to Rosie in this scene. When he did it at the beginning of the movie, it was to impress Jenna, but here, Balto does it as his one final act of kindness (in the movie) to someone that cares for him. Because Rosie approached Balto with kindness and care in the beginning, he returns the gesture by giving up everything to save her life. I absolutely adore Balto as a character in this movie simply because it is impossible to care for him more than he cares for you.

It is sweet. Did he ever go for the medicine to "impress" Jenna though? Jenna loved Rosie and was worried, unhappy that the girl was suffering. He did it for love, to make Jenna feel better and for the sick kids to get better - repeat: for love! not to "impress". No?

To this day I still get goosebumps from this scene and these are the kind of movies I love; strangers that tell a story about a hero or phenomenon that happened and people wonder how they know; well they would know because they were experienced it or that the hero was right in front of them

It's such a shame his and his teams (the other dogs that were with him) lives afterwards wasn't as happy as this movie makes it to be. But at least hopefully in the end him and his team somewhat got the nice, spoiled life that they all deserved.
(For those that may not know, afterwards him and his team were sold to a company that originally sponsored the team, and whom in return neglected and abused them. After being discovered in the horrible states they were left in they were rescued and lived out the rest of their lives being cared for in a zoo.

It would have been much worse for him if the team would have told everyone the truth about what happened on the mountainside when Balto found them. The perfect punishment for Steele would have been everyone ignoring him and pretending he wasn't around for a while. Steele allowed his ego to get the better of him and nearly got the medicine destroyed. Getting completely shunned would have been the idea punishment for him. An egotistical, selfish, arrogant glory hound deserves nothing more than to be completely shut out. It bruises their ego badly!!!

There were 2 alternate endings for Steele after Balto returned. The first one was that one of the dogs took the golden collar (it was a championship collar) and gives it to Balto.
The other one which was darker was when all the dog wanted to take the collar off Steele and give it to Balto but when Balto told the others to let him have it, Steele tried to attack him only to get himself caught on a lever to a coal shaft. It pulled him and hanged him over the bin, but then a pile of coal came falling onto him making him slip out of his collar but Steele was buried to death by the coal.
Here's the link to the storyboard for that ending.

@@pinesapp Okay, here goes. In the dream I was five feet tall, a male teenager who had a slender body, beautiful face and a full head of thick, long, beautiful hair that was shoulder length. I wore a T-shirt, jeans, but warm clothing over them as well as boots and dressed warmly.
In the dream. One year has passed after the events of the first film. Balto had changed Nikki, Kaltag, and Star for the better after all the dogs saw how evil Steele is. One day, Balto, Jenna, Boris, Nikki, Kaltag, Star, Dixie, and Sylvie are out in Nome Alaska and they spot me but my hood was up. But then I collapsed to the ground which had everyone worried and both Balto and the dog gang came over to me to figure out what was going on.
Balto managed to remove my hood and they saw my face as they saw me as a human male teenager at age fourteen. Looking tired and as if I just survived a war.
Days later, the doctors there checked me out and I was alright, just shook up. But I ended up staying with Rosy and her family at Rosy's insistence.
In the town. I was seen as stoic and quiet. I refused to talk to anyone. I shown no emotion. But for some reason. I only talked to the animals and shown emotion around them. I even had the ability to talk to Balto, Jenna and the dogs as they talked like humans but only I could understand them. Balto would ask me what happened to me out there but I'd go stoic and quiet as I'd say to him "I'd rather not"
Balto and the dogs knew something was bothering me and one day. There was a wanted poster of a man that escaped from prison. I went stoic and said "It's back" and I went off somewhere unknown, away from town.
The town notices that I've gone missing and try to look for me. Balto, Nikki, Kaltag and Star volunteer to go find me and when they do. They spend the day out in the forest and they don't find me yet but they encounter a huge and dangerous bear. They fought against the bear that turned out to be a rogue but then they heard gunfire and they looked away at first but when they looked. They found me dragging the bear away to put behind a tree as I tell them "Don't look at it" and after dragging the bear off behind a tree. Balto and the dogs confront me on why I'm out there alone.
I'd tell them "You wouldn't understand" and Balto and his friends would tell me "We need you to help us understand" which that made me relent after Balto nuzzled his head against my leg. So I told them that I lost my family long time ago but a man who turned out to be my dad was the one who committed the act and I was the soul survivor. I was in an orphanage for so long that I knew I wasn't going to get adopted and I ran off because I was scared.
Which I felt like no one wanted me. But Balto and his friends comforted me by telling me that they want me and both Rosy and her family want me as part of their family. Which I shed a tear and as they comforted me. We tried to make our way back but got lost.
It wasn't long till we heard gun fire and we got found by a man who turned out to be my father who escaped from prison. Me and him confronted each other as he told me that it was thanks to me that he was in prison but I argued that I was a baby who survived his crime, that what he did is his fault.
After the argument. We both exchanged gunfire but ran out of ammo, luckily, no one got hit. But me and my dad fought each other like karate warriors. But then we wrestled each other to the ground and fell off a cliff. But I held onto the ledge while Balto and his friends tried to pull me up. But my dad looked up and looked down, then looked up at me as he said "If you don't let go of me, we're both gonna die" and I tried pulling him up but he purposely let go and he fell to his death. Balto and his friends pulled me up and I climbed up to safety as Balto is like "You okay?" and I told him "You're the first friend I've made since I've been here" and after a moment of rest. We got up and made it back to town in Nome by nightfall but we saw a light that led us to Nome and as we ran towards the town. Me and Balto howled like real wolves and my wolf howl sounded just like a realistic wolf.
After we made it into town. I was greeted with affection by Balto, Jenna, Nikki, Kaltag, Star, Dixie, Sylvie. Rosy and her parents came to me to hug me and I hugged them back. Everyone was cheering for us as they saw Balto and his gang led me safely back to town. Which the townspeople were surprised that I shown emotion and was talking to people.
In the end, it's decades later in the mid 90s as I'm in Central Park and I've grown old and I'm with my grandson as we made it to the Balto statue as I said "Balto, you were the first friend I made during my toughest time. I'm grateful to you that my life has become prosperous. You and I have the heart of a wolf"

I love how the humans and dogs learn not to judge by looks, but by the heart. I love how all of Steele fans finally saw him as the selfish, lying, rude, and evil dog he really is. Balto's name being Togo would actually make less sense for the movie (specifically the movie, nothing to do with real life), as the movie is supposed to be interpreted as Rosie's recalling and retelling of the story. Because Rosie was one of the recipients of the serum, she would not have seen the efforts made by Togo and the other 20 or so teams of dogs.
I think it was a very smart decision by the creators to begin the movie with Rosie and her granddaughter, as it allows for a more fictional and satisfying story that doesn't need to be completely based on fact.

    • @omegaonthefly1977
      @omegaonthefly1977 3 года назад +16

Yes but the story is quite misconstrued compared to the original sadly. Balto was for quite a while seen as the hero of the medicine run, but funny enough, he actually was not apart of the initial team that delivered the serum. It was a team lead by another much older dog by the name of Togo. Balto was considered for the run, but was deemed too young and inexperienced to lead the team. Many of the feats you see in the movie were actually ones made by Togo, not Balto. It was only at the last station that Balto, despite the wishes of Musher Seppala (who led the team up till that point) was chosen to lead the final stretch. Hence why he received the heroes welcome and was seen as the hero of the town for as long as he was. Though I hate to say it, Balto is, for lack of better terms, a bit of a fraud. Though of course not by his own choice.

If you aren't shedding a tear at, "Balto! I'd be lost without you." Then, please visit a doctor because your tear ducts are blocked. I'm 36 and this movie still gets me bad!

Это просто поразительный мультфильм. В детстве меня было не оторвать от его просмотра... Здесь есть всё: очень харизматичные герои, экшн, драма и очень много эмоциональных моментов под красивую музыку. Не представляю, сколько трудов в него вложили

Lovely ending scene. I love how the doctor says to be careful with the crate of medicine and then he gets everything set up to give the injections. I love how Balto gives Rosie her hat.
