      @@MJGOATMagic was not a better passer at all. Stockton had 5 years with more APG than Magic’s best year and with a better turnover to assist ratio. Magic also spent most of his career on a running team with a lot more scorers to pass to. Stockton played with a lot of half court players and that is what he did. Magic may have been a more valuable player due to rebounding, mostly because he was a lot bigger and was flashier. Stockton was focused on winning and not scoring himself, but no doubt he could have scored a lot more (50% career). No one saw the court better or put the ball where his teammates needed better.

      They had trash depth. On offense, they had Stockton and Malone. That was about it.
      On defense they had Eaton, Malone and Stockton. And Eaton was player that could be exploited under the pre-zone rules.
      That's what Don Nelson did to upset Utah. In that series Malone averaged 30, Stockton averaged 28 and 15, and Utah basically got nothing else out of their roster.
      Wipeout.
      The 90s version was much better, particularly on depth and with the acquisition of Hornacek.

      @Joe Richardson
      Makes no sense.
      Magic had way more turnovers.
      Also what makes a passer great is not how many flashy passes they can do. Its how many assists they can get and their courtvision and reaction times and IQ.
      Magic and Stockton both had top 3 courtvision all time. But Magic had Kareem, Worthy and alot more other high % scorers than Stockton.
      Magic better scorers led to Magic getting extra assists. Stockton is 2nd all time in APG while Nash is not too 5 and Nash had more scorers and higher %, scorers.
      Outside of Karl Malone others ran cuts and pick and rolls. While Stockton created the cuts by being double and triple teamed.
      Its a myth that Stockton only did basic passes. He did no look passes at a elite level that very few NBA PGs ever could do. Without turning them over as much.
      Context is always key in a discussion on any topic. Context shows how a person did it and why and when.

    Stockton is a top 5 NBA point guard all time for me. 19 out of 19 seasons in the playoffs, career leader in assists and steals by far over the next guy. Stockton is smart, reliable, and consistent. There are only 2 point guards better than Stockton, and that is Magic and Isiah Thomas bc of their championships.

      Magic and Zeke played with multiple Hall of Famers. Stockton mostly played with one. There's no strong argument of not having Stockton as #1.

    And he couldn’t just pass. Averaged 16 for a decade in his prime shooting 53/39/83. 62% TS from 88-97 with 13 assists a gm. And maybe most impressive, he played EVERY GAME 17/19 years. He missed like 20 games out of 1.5K.

      @matthewkennedy3340 Год назад +2

      And he averaged almost 3 steals for a decade with like 3,330 career steals and. 700 more than the next most (Kidd, 2684). Sorry his stats just wild to me don’t think we’ll see it again.

      @Crunchysopa52  Месяц назад

      no, i simply also wanted showcase his passing skills, court vision etc even for plays that didn't count as assists. such as when a teammate was fouled and didn't even get a shot attempt up. or if they missed a great feed-setup by Stockton, etc
