I think he did that anyway. 3 superbowl appearances. Left the field with the lead in all three with seconds left and was nearly 0-3 instead he went 1-2. That catch in the back of the end zone still gets me😊
Warner had to go through the adversity to make him better. He was great because he faced the adversity and the long odds and kept working, kept grinding, kept improving.
It was going through the things he went through and dealing with the low points in his life that turned him around and made him realize he needed to focus harder. Once he started listening to his coaches a little better and not just relying on natural ability, he exploded. In both leagues.
Wow!!! What an amazing story. Seeing Kurt Warner from bagging groceries to becoming an MVP, Super Bowl Champion, 3-Time NFC Champion, Pro Bowler, All-Pro, and now, Hall of Famer.
The margin between greatness and obscurity is razor thin. Quarterback is especially sensitive to the team that's built. Warner walked into the perfect situation, with Marshall Faulk, Isaac Bruce, Torry Holt, Rickey Proehl, As-Zahir Hakim. Willie Roaf at LT. The rest of that line was 2nd- and 3rd-rounders. Really strong team build.
For those watching who weren’t alive or old enough to witness - you can’t get a feel for how awesome this team was through a 20 minute RUclips video. Warner was the missing piece in an offense that to this day continues to be one of the most exciting teams to have ever been assembled. Came out of nowhere and took the world by storm. Thank goodness Dick had the vision to see the potential in Warner
It was indeed awesome! It also makes me wonder how many great players we never got to see put on pads in the NFL. I was watching the preseason game when Green got hurt. I had thought that the Rams might be on the verge of something great with the additions of Green, Faulk and Holt. When Green went down my hopes were dashed for about two minutes - and then I watched Warner. Dude jumped off the television screen. He looked better in that game than I had ever seen Green look in all his time with Washington and I was absolutely sold. How did everybody miss on this guy? It still makes no sense. Fortunately, NFL scouts do a much better job these days of scouting smaller schools but I can't help but think there may be dozens of Kurt Warners out there that nobody has ever heard of.
Even more guys like Kurt who just constantly get gimped by injuries. Almost all of Kurts off seasons were because he was injured/dealing with an injury or still trying to fully recover from one. It happens SOOOOo much in football. It kind of sucks tbh.
@@gregj831 after seeing what the Saints did, it makes me wonder if Warner was targetted. Maybe he was taking a lot of cheap shots and illegal hits. Seems strange to suffer from a broken hand multiple times.

Pretty incredible he had better than a 3 his first season on his TD-2-INT ratio. Most QBs can’t hit that until year three really, especially in that era. Nowadays it’s easier because defenses can’t hit quarterbacks and they can barely hit receivers either. But just imagine if Trent Green never gets injured. Kurt Warner probably never really gets to play and no one, outside of some teammates, would know how good of a passer he was. And then he probably would’ve retired from football and that would’ve been that. But Kurt took big advantage of the opportunity he was given, along with being a great talent too. Kurt was a gamer. (I highly recommend the movie “Underdog” - I think that’s the title - about Kurt’s story. Really good especially for a sports movie. Most sports movies are unwatchable - not that one.)
Literally stocking shelves doing inventory at a grocery outlet supermarket store when he got the call and went to The Show. Warner is the real life Cinderella story. Fantasy Leaguer willed into reality.
I would imagine that playing Arena ball actually makes a QB better. Why? Well, you either have to A. Quicken your release, or B. Really throw early with anticipation. Since the field is smaller the DBs must play tighter coverage and so you’d better get that ball out quickly and accurately. But Warner had an underrated arm and he had a pretty quick release too, quicker than average, although I don’t have a number on him. (He must’ve been sub-0.4 on his Load-to-Release, maybe even sub-0.35. I’d like to see someone analyze it.). But when he got to the NFL he probably thought, “Whew. I have so much space here to throw!”
