- If you are building a curbless shower it's important to waterproof the outside floor 👍 Using a waterproof uncoupling mat is a great way to go😊 HYDROBLOK makes a 1/4" thick uncoupling mat that will meet up perfectly to a 1" low profile shower pan (when you recess the shower area and have 3/4" subflooring for outside floor)

Dude, how about some floor protection over existing tile or wood you got there😮
How bout it 😂
@@BathroomRemodelingTeacher ya you’re destroying that destroyed floor you already destroyed 4-5 remodels ago.
Did you stick that to chip board 😮
Thank you for your tutorials. They are very useful for me as DIYer. I have a question: I'm renovating my walkout basement. House is 11 years old. It passed its foundation settlement and no new concrete floor cracks appeared for many years. I plan to lay the tiles at the entrance, which will will be connected with floating hardwood planks on the rest of basement floor. Do I need to install the membrane on concrete or I can lay the tiles directly on the concreate floor? If I install membrane, the tiles will be higher then hardwood. You probably will have the same problem in the transition to hardwood floor.
So over concrete I usually like to use an isolation liquid waterproofing membrane. Something like Hydroban works great. I don't see the necessity to use an uncoupling membrane unless you are trying to get more height. ruclips.net/video/uUbqOIp28jo/видео.html
@@BathroomRemodelingTeacher Water is not an issue. My house is at the highest area in the city and I never saw moisture in my basement. Considering the membrane as crack prevention, that's all. If it's not an issue in my case I would lay tiles directly on the concrete.
Yep no problem setting directly for sure 👍 the liquid waterproofing technically does provide some crack isolation. But if you get a good thinset (Ardex x5 is my favorite) you’ll be good to go
@@BathroomRemodelingTeacher For sure, a liquid membrane is a good idea to reduce risk of cracking. Thank you for your advise.
I laid tile on my concrete entryway (after cleaning thoroughly and scuffing with grinder) and it’s worked out great for a few years now. I think you’re good as long as the concrete is clean.
Do you tile directly on top of this?
Yes
Do you not prime the board ?
Priming any surface will increase bond strength, but as long as it’s clean you can directly bond with a modified thinset 👍
@@BathroomRemodelingTeacher thanks for the reply
