I've had a Green Aracari for 5 years now. I got him when he was 4 months old. I love him dearly! He's just a miniature of a full sized toucan in every way, except his beak is serrated like no other bird. Everyone that visits thinks he's the coolest bird in the house. He definitely attacks strangers and he's hot and cold with certain family members without provoke. He poops every 5 minutes and he needs to fly around the house twice daily and he poops everywhere! Toucans don't like any other bird species and we have 4 different types of parrots and he could kill them with the tip of his beak. He loves cuddles when he's not hyper. I live is So. Calif. so I have his separate outdoor cage that I can put him in almost daily- year round. Let me tell you the cage clean-up is what gets old. Papaya and mango dried onto everything is very difficult to clean. If you don't clean out his cage at least every other day, the smell is gross!!! He's a picky eater and he gets tired of different fruit and wastes so much of it and I'm constantly trying to figure out what to feed him and have to have papaya, mango, kiwi and banana on constant ripening rotation. I will never have another toucanet in my home.

Kudos to Dave for taking the bite attacks. The description of their serrated knife beaks were enough for me. My arm hurt after. Another super informative vlog. So pretty to look at but so tough to care for.
Thanks for taking one for the team Dave!! I'm sure it wasn't the most fun thing you have done this week. Thanks Jamieleigh for all the info I find rocko fascinating, hes so beautiful.
Hats off to Dave, taking some pain so people can see what's it's like! Here's a understatement: Toucans don't make the best pets. Awesome video, guys! I like new editing too.
Wow Im so impressed by his catching skills! I'm surprised he got so aggressive with your husband so fast just cuz he was at the wrong place at the wrong time according to rocco when he handles him and such not like hes a stranger! So many kudos for his sacrifice!
I love your vlog. You and your husband are clearly knowledgeable, and you obviously have an innate alignment and understanding of the avian paradigm and perspective.
I recently found your channel and I'm hooked!! I think the thing I love most is the beautiful relationship between you and your husband and your daughter!!! Thank you for making these videos! I've already learned so much!!
Rocko really loves you, i can tell! He LUUUUVZ your attention, he acts like he's especially gentle to you too. As a plus for him; he gets plenty of good attention, and love, from a pretty lady - he'll probably protect you if something happened too!

If it makes you feel better Jamie you have a non-tucan enthused viewer. I love Rocko like the rest but after the large amount of information you've shared about your experiences I am not interested at all and any time my husband is like :D Naww tucans! I'm like NO >:( (I'm the animal caretaker so he'd be 99% my responsibility and no thanks.)
For a while there I was really interested in owning a mynah bird. I really wanted one. Even have photos of me holding one. But then i read over and over how they poop like a hawk/eagle. Basically a huge squirt of liquid yuck that landed on the walls and dripped down....being the same (99% animal carer-cleaner) I decided nope. My hands are in enough poo with the 3 parrots that own me.
I think he hates Dave because both are males, i used to know a female hyacinth maccaw who seriously bites every other human female she encounter but with males she would be super cuddly and sweet 🤦🏻♀️
He is sooo gorgeous! Love your videos. I couldn’t offer the right environment for a parrot so I’m living vicariously through you and loving every minute!

Omg before he went to attack your husband when he was on the counter inspecting the Cheerios , I LOVED his little hopity-hops 😭😍💝
8:44 hes mad that you didnt get froot loops... Cheerioss
His Great Grandpa is the original Toucan Sam.
I love the noise toucan's make, the chattering noise.
Thanks for taking one for the team Dave!! I'm sure it wasn't the most fun thing you have done this week. Thanks Jamieleigh for all the info I find rocko fascinating, hes so beautiful.
It would seem that Rocco hates Dave, because he is a competitor for your affection.
I like the sound Rocko makes, its so relaxing
I love how at 8:59 he looks up at your husband as if to say, "WHAT? WHAT?"
Hats off to Dave, taking some pain so people can see what's it's like!
Here's a understatement: Toucans don't make the best pets. Awesome video, guys! I like new editing too.
Your husband is very patient with Rocko when he is moody.
I was thrown off when she said girlfriend took me a sec to get what she meant
It just occurred to my why Rocko was attacking the Cheerios box... Jamieleigh, you need to buy Froot Loops... doh!
😂😂😂 Best comment!!
me: *loves rodents and probably won’t own birds ever-*
also me: “yes i do need this information”
Jamie: Gets excited about seeing toucans in person.
Also Jamie: Owns a toucan
hahahahaaaa the comments on this video are just gold.
Wow Im so impressed by his catching skills! I'm surprised he got so aggressive with your husband so fast just cuz he was at the wrong place at the wrong time according to rocco when he handles him and such not like hes a stranger! So many kudos for his sacrifice!
Thanks for the sacrifice, Dave. Great video!
I love your vlog. You and your husband are clearly knowledgeable, and you obviously have an innate alignment and understanding of the avian paradigm and perspective.
Dude he sounds like the predator
That is awesome!
Dude.
Open your fucking eyes.
Ha! I was just about to comment this
I recently found your channel and I'm hooked!! I think the thing I love most is the beautiful relationship between you and your husband and your daughter!!! Thank you for making these videos! I've already learned so much!!
Another great video! Dave, you are the man!
Such a good boy! I don’t know why, but I love the click noises he makes? To me it’s just a nice noise!
I've had Toucans back in the '70s. They are like Lorikeets, both have loose stools and their aim is very accurate!
13:21 that face Rocco made >.< hilarious reacting to the soundeffect
Rocco is gorgeous! I don't own any birds but watching how you and Dave interact with him is amazing. Thanks for sharing your birds with us.
Thanks Bro for the sacrifice, You guys seem like Good people. I love the channel!
My macaws beaks were intimidating. I can't even imagine but what an awesome bird.
I'm completely smitten by this precious toucan. What a sweetheart!
Ur so awsome right now there are no dislikes! Also let’s just appreciate what Dave sacrificed today.😊
Rocko really loves you, i can tell! He LUUUUVZ your attention, he acts like he's especially gentle to you too. As a plus for him; he gets plenty of good attention, and love, from a pretty lady - he'll probably protect you if something happened too!
yeah, same!! Ive never seen a toucan purr or grumble or play with toys. The toucans in the zoo just stand there and look sad.
Notifications are definitely on! Great video ! 💕
Thank you!!!
Seriously one of my favourite birds to look at, I don't want one as a pet for all the reasons you mentioned but I still love it.
He is a “oh hell no!” as a pet, but I am so glad to vicariously have him as a pet through RUclips :3
DARLING..YOU'RE SO SMART AND SWEET... I JUST LOVE YOU. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO FOR OUR BIRDS!!!!! YES. SO *VERY* IMPORTANT...WATCHING YOU AND FINDING OUT ALL THE LITTLE THINGS THAT ARE OF GREAT IMPORTANCE! BLESS YOU AND ROCCO AND ALL YOUR BIRDS! LOVE LOVE PERSONIFIED.
Well that's the goal so yay! Haha thanks for the feedback!
Thank you for doing this! Not getting a bird at all now! LOL
"Are they destructive?"
I think he hates Dave because both are males, i used to know a female hyacinth maccaw who seriously bites every other human female she encounter but with males she would be super cuddly and sweet 🤦🏻♀️
Absolutely gorgeous bird with such an unique bill. Rocko does look like a handful.
I was about to ask what pisses Rocco off then I saw, it's Dave lol.
Lol poor Dave!!!
He’s not trying to fly at my head and gouge my eyes out lol
He is sooo gorgeous! Love your videos. I couldn’t offer the right environment for a parrot so I’m living vicariously through you and loving every minute!
Dave! Thank you for taking the bites!!! You are are amazing! Than you both for this video! So informative!
I just came across this channel and i am IN LOVE WITH YOU! I am living vicariously through you and the amazing birds you have!!
10 minutes of aracaris are more suited alternatives to toucans? Was that intentional?
CakeBlock right? Ok point made hahaha
Now I am re-watching waiting for that so if you see it tell me where it starts!
@@BirdTricks @ 21:41
@@BirdTricks it starts at 21:40 and ends at 29:45
OMG I found it hahahaaha not intentional!!!!! 🤪 sorry ya'll!!! Fixed it!!
For all you sadists...the bite is at 8:50. But I strongly suggest watching the whole video. Very informative!
That husband of yours is a lucky man, and your a lucky woman with that man who puts up with you and your birbs shenanigans. :)
absolutely no disrespect, honestly I'm kinda jelly of your guys dynamic. GJ! I'm new to you and your videos but I can tell that this is an awesome YT channel!
Looking forward to to seeing more here!
KoNarTisT206 haha well he was the one into birds before me 🙃
4:42 him swinging on the branch is so precious. It reminds me of that one attraction in Disney World with all the birds🥺
I love toucans. I would never own one though. Way too high maintenance (and craaaazy expensive.) Love the video. Thanks.
Rocko freaking listens and understands the conversation! He just shows right away all the behaviours they are talking about! And she seems to understand that too.
Thanks for sharing and educating us on Toucans he’s such a cutie I love all birds and I’ve always wanted a Toucan I would’ve named him Sam🥰
Check out our toco toucan in my most recent video! I’m posting a toucan video soon featuring the Toco and my Aracari. Would love for you to check it out, I am a big fan!
Can’t wait to watch!
Legit, that bird beak is a throwback design from the dinosaur era.
'He's not flying right at my head, trying to gauge my eyes out'...dave quote
🤣
Does he sometimes scare you? Since he makes sounds like the Predator?
Its cute but it does kinda scare me lol!
I desparately wanted a Toucan, did some research, went 'Nope' & got a Greenwing.
Beautiful though & thank you for sharing him, he is a joy to watch 🥰
Can I use water diclorinator instead of distiled
now we came full circle with the whole "but it's ok if they bit dad" from another video. lol 😂
Ahahahaha!
Thank you for your honest videos. Parrots/Toucans are wild animals and should not be kept as pets. You do a fantastic job of illustrating how difficult it is to keep them. Thank You!
I will never get over how strange he looks head-on
Pwew that voice!!
I love macaws🇦🇱
Do you have a macaw
Very interesting video. From everything you described toucans are my spirit animal. Keep me fed or I’m hangry!!! 😜😂
So glad you shared this to show people how difficult it is to keep these amazing birds! People need to know! Also, they are about $15,000, so that may also deter people from keeping them. Don't get me wrong, they are wonderful, but it's not very fair to the bird, we just can't provide the proper care like you can 😆😁😂😃😃
Absolutely fantastic video covering so much stuff! Thanks for sharing!
Very informative. I will never get a Toucan. I have a lorikeet and he is high maintenance. I thought your video was stuck at the end.
Yeah, the lorikeet diet is fairly similar! So you get it more than most.
Birds don't stop pooping lol..but they are beautifull.
Thankyou for all the information you provide.
Oh he is gorgous,it's so nice to see them enjoying themselves.you can just see how loved he is.bless.
Have a beautiful day & takecare.
P.s thankyou to your husband for showing us what it's like.
Great video guys! I had a “near miss” getting a toucan. Glad I decided against it!
Kudos to Dave, taking the hit like that for us!
I had to come back and see this video after watching your most recent video on him . He will be missed he was an amazing bird and brought so much light to so many people . RIP roco u will be missed
“Don’t send nudes, thnx” 😂😂😂😂
Oh my gosh, that professional picture of you two with Rocco on your knee is 😍 ADORABLE!
"don't send nudes" 😂😂 best thing on the internet. I've just discovered you're channel today and I'm loving it. Can't get any housework done because of it tho. Lol. Rocko is gorgeous, but Jinx has stole my 💓! Keep up the great work!
Oh poor Dave thank you for showing us that I wonder why there so moody all the birds are so beautiful but wow they are very interesting each one thank you for your videos
There are specific sea algae that able to bind irons, maybe that can help.
Toucans get hangry. Lol so funny to learn that. Thank you for an engaging video!
Man it must be hard for Dave Rocko getting mad at him so easily. Is there a reason for that? Do toucans pair bond like parrots can? Does he see Dave as competition? Or is it just one of those things? Also today I found out Toucans get Hangry.
Omg toucans get totally hangry real fast!
I was wondering the same thing. Why does Rocko have a thing against Dave? :(
I just wrote out a much longer comment, asking the same lol.. it's so different than parrots! Alien birds.. lol
Rocko is a dedicated misandrist.
Some birds will bond with a person and only that person, no matter what. My father owned different parrots and some only bonded with me. Or...Rocko might just be giving Dave a bit of "birditude"
I love how his step up is a jump up, and the way he jumps about, soooo cute 🥰
You are a beast bird mom. Respect
You are so gifted with birds..love all of your videos
