    I had a similar situation when I was younger. I found a young crow like this about the same age, and raced it until it could fly. Once I released it, it would follow me around wherever I went when I was outside. This used to freak out my friends and family, but I loved it and I had a new friend.

    I was a very young boy when my father was raising a baby pet crow. It was a wonderful pet. He named it Eighty proof. I was sad when it grew strong enough to leave, but I thanked it for it’s amusement and company. I said goodbye, and wished it well. I think he hung around, on and off for several years. It was always fun when he came by with his friends and family.

    I raised two grackles the past summer. They had bird mites when we found them and almost died but we got medicine on them right away and they kept getting stronger. After some time they learned how to fly very well and one of them left. The other one didn’t leave until two weeks later and it was always fun to be casually standing in the backyard and to have a bird fly full speed at you and land on your shoulder demanding food.

      To release a corvidae is a huge mistake.It is usually killed by the others very fastly, considered as a stranger.The most agressive are the magpies ,that are the most territorial corvidae.I had a magpie for 14 years , she was always purchassed by the wild ones every time she went outdoor.

    It always impresses me that people are willing to put in the MASSIVE AMOUNT OF TIME AND ENERGY that is needed (feeding every 30min like WHAT! Insane) into an orphaned baby not knowing how it will work. But your reward though is to be blessed with little crow in your life and that incredible bond you have earned. So impressed and inspired by the way u treat your birds as proper pets and not just something in a cage. Taking them on holidays, to the beach, just LOVE ! To have a pet crow come to the beach with me sound like heaven literally! Oh and u should start teaching tricks and doing brain teasers/puzzles with her as they are incredibly smart with the most insane memories and problem solving abilities, which mean they can get bored easily and needs challenges. U guys r too awesome btw 😀

    It might be that the mother was shot and the poor little thing ventured out to find out what happened. Crows even have funerals! As a youngster, my friends and I would venture out into the woods and my friends would just shoot birds for the sake of it. Although I never shot a crow myself, I hang my head in shame sometimes for being friends with those arseholes. They were arsehole for other reasons too.

    • @burningcheerios3119
      @burningcheerios3119 4 года назад +42

      It's very dependent on the animals, for examples orcas and other dolphins are miserable in captivity. The only recorded instances of orcas attacking people are orcas in captivity because the go crazy under those conditions. Intelligent animals all require recreation of some sort and many need social interaction and in some cases we can't properly provide that in captivity. Ravens and crows do well provided the have a good amount of room and friendly interactions though.

    Maple is very young and will grow tail feathers on the next mold. Try to find ways to encourage her to fly. They can fly without tail feathers. I read that -- On their own, crow eat frogs, lizards, insects and anything else they can catch and swallow. They're also known to eat carrion, but you don't need to offer them such variety. Feed crows mealworms, crickets and mice. They also like fresh fruit if you have it. --
    BTW I found and raised a small bird. It was pink and had no pin feathers yet. No metabolism for the first few weeks so needed a heating pad and meals every 20 min. Mashed cat chow with water. Jr was a House Sparrow. Jr would land on my shoulder and beg for food. That was 95 so Jr is in bird heaven by now. Good luck with your birds.

    When I was young a family moved in across the street from me and they said they took care of two sick crows ware they lived before(about 20 miles away) and they were as amazed as me when one day the crows showed up. They actualy followed the family. It was great, I would walk down the sidewalk and they would land on your shoulder and talk up a storm. It is one of my best memories growing up.I would sit on the town hall steps every day and the two blackbirds would sit with me and just chatter away.This almost brings me to tears because it reminds me of the time I shared with these very smart birds.

    Just goes to show you should never give up on the little ones no matter how pitiful, sick, or weak they might be to start out (just ask my parents! 😂). Dennis and Kullike did good with Maple and look where she is today!
    Ooh, by the way! I started working on my cartoon of your birds. Gotta say it’s not looking too bad so far!

      yes , these birds can talk , and after years, some of their words have signification.My magpie always told something like "give me,give me..." in French,when she wanted to be manually fed,even after 10 years , she loved to be sometimes fed handly , and behaved like a baby.

    I'm not generally an emotional person, but seeing her try to take those tiny steps as a super young chick, and hearing those little mumble conversations just about melted my heart. I absolutely adore crows. Such beautifully intelligent creatures. They really are. Here's to hoping she lives long and healthy (and same with all her corvid buddies too)!

    I cant remeber where from but one of the many mythologies has a story on how the beautiful crow, who had raindow feathers and a gorgeous voice, carried fire to save the earth covering their feathers in smoke and burning their voice. Sad from loosing the beauty of their voice and feather the gods show that when in the sun you can still see the blues and purples under the smoke.
    Just though it's a good paraphrased story to ads
