In episode 3 of this Montana archery elk hunt, Randy and Michael decided to pull the plug on central Montana and now start hunting the thick timber of the western side of the state. They get camp set up at a nearby campground and head out into the woods to try and locate a bugling bull.
They find a bull and try to get set-up to call him in. But the area is so thick, it’s difficult to get eyes on any elk even if they are close. Randy and Michael continue the same strategy of moving and calling and moving and calling, just trying to cover country and find where the bulls are.
Randy is still designating Michael as the first shooter, so he continues to get set up whenever they locate a bugling bull. But getting a bull to bugle and calling one within range turns out to be a much different reality.

Michael has to sound like a dang freight train crashin and huffing and puffing in that timber.. That elk heard you long before he was in range.

A-Think I have seen Randy's little "Fire Drill" on grouse in prior video. He does get excited. Michael, sneak a 20 gauge in the truck next trip😜
B-First time I watched Michael was on rifle hunt. Not impressed. Now I really enjoy being able to follow along. Love his banter, attitude and excitement. Keep it going.-
C-the "Dirty Underwear " comment at 0:22. If you don't have some before a bear encounter, good possibility you will afterwards😜

First grouse I ever shot I did it with an empty tip (I only had broadheads and wasn't going to shoot a grouse with a broadhead). I nailed him right at the base of the neck. Then I bought a fancy judo point and have missed way more than I've hit since then. They're so tasty!

I believe that is a snowtrekker tent. There made about an hour from my house in Wisconsin. Would also made sense since Randy is from MN. We use these tents out west there great quality lightweight tents he is always willing to help you and make custom improvements to your tent to fit your needs. We've had ours almost 10 years now still looks brand new

Later trip to Wyoming my hunting partner and I parked the SUV and walked 1/2 mile down a snow covered no motor vehicle rd to a canyon , on the way back there was giant grizzly tracks following ours for about 2 hundred yards. After that my buddy refused to leave the SUV rest of the hunt.

Hey Randy. Looks like very tough and tight quarters for hunting. If you were in the same area but later in the year (Nov/Dec) how would you hunt elk there? They would ignore your calls so how do you locate them in thick woods later in the season? Thanks

I know the claim is that Yeti coolers are bear proof. But before you trust your life to that you should find out what the independent testers have to show you about that.
Yeti coolers get ripped open by Grizzlies like a potato chip bag!

@@danc6402 yes the ones at the bear sanctuary in West Yellowstone were ripped open. And they looked locked to me. They went right thru them.
They're is a reason why they are not approved as "Bear proof".
      Granted they are "Bear Resistant"
But that's about the same as the difference between "water proof" and "water resistant " 😆

    I enjoy your hunting videos
Michael’s clothes make to much noise, sounds like they are made out of plastic.
Michael moves to much , when he is spose to be standing still.
Michael doesn’t watch where he puts his mudd mashers and steps on and breaks to many sticks.
Everything in the woods can hear him.
This is basic stuff, get control of yourself
