In episode 4 of this Montana archery elk hunt, Michael and Randy head out in the morning to look for a bull elk. Michael says if they don’t find one they will find a bull moose instead, because Randy has a moose tag in the area as well.
They drive up the road and find a bull bugling right away. Randy and Michael try to slip their way in close so that they can then call him in the remaining distance. They try to set up but the bull goes silent and doesn’t come in. After a slow morning they decide to shift gears and head to moose country and do some scouting while they’re in the area.
The remaining days they keep calling and finding bulls and setting up on them trying to call one within range. That combined with moose scouting and a lot of grouse hunting, it turns out to be a pretty successful hunt.

Last year we had multiple point-blank opportunities for grouse but didn't carry any "disposable" arrows for them. Not gonna happen this year, Randy's dance has me too hopped up. I'll take a doz shafts JUST for grouse!

I am so happy that you get excited by the grouse/partridge. Too many hunters do not take the time and effort to pursue this most excellent table fare. I would consider the hunt quite successful just for the FANTASTIC dinner of grouse! The little things make the best memories of the hunt!

I know some people are probably scratching their heads over your enthusiasm for grouse, but I grew up enjoying all the sporting opportunities Montana has to offer, and grouse hunting is by far my favorite. Followed closely by fishing in beaver ponds with worms.

We literally watch u n Elk 101 every night , to the point where I had to say to my husband can u just like the video so we know that we’ve watched it instead of getting half way through n realizing ether I’m really smart knowing what’s going to happen or we already watched this one hahha.

My ol’ pappy used to say, “sometimes you eat the bear, sometimes the bear eats you.” Typed this just before the video showed the grizzly sign.

Oh good grief. From 29:30 on, Micheal trying to blow that elk bugle; then Randy must be picking up bad habits from Micheal. Sometimes you should just go into them quiet.

Maybe y’all should just go bird hunting. A lot more fun then elk hunting .
