Hopefully so, if I enjoy working on them. My favourite engines are the 748/916 series personally but it could open more options for other work if I can gain a good understanding of them.
This is great!!! I’m so excited for this series. I have been tearing apart an 1199 engine as well. I mainly am confused on how to time it, once the heads are back on. This will likely answer a lot of my questions. Your channel is gold on RUclips. I am more than certain your videos have helped many of people through their Ducati struggles! Keep it up!!!!
hi, very nice and informative video! could you please tell where you got the socket tool for the 12 point nuts at the head? can be seen at 24:20, would really appreciate it😀
Excellent I have been waiting for something like this. My 1199 has done allot of miles 80,000km which is nearly 50,000 miles. It still runs great but is using allot of coolant. can’t see leaks anywhere so I can only assume it’s burning it which I’m guess is a tiny hole in a head gasket.
I have this same engine with a cracked case where the clutch slave cylinder mounts due to drive chain breaking (at only 5k miles). What value is there in all the internals?
When are you doing episode two ? I’m tearing down my 1299 need some tips on how to get it back together , my original head got damage at 15000 swapping those out , than installing second hand
Did you get round to splitting the cases in the end? I have rebuilt 2 of these engines before, 1299s and panigale R which basically have the same architecture and I am not sure how it’s possible to split the cases without the cylinder liner puller tool from ducati which is quite expensive! I ended up buying one from the dealer as I couldn’t find any for sale!
I have not got round to this part of the strip down, but I am likely going to buy the tools following looking at the manual and as I may end up working on a couple more of these engines in the near future.
I have painfully split two different 1199s engines. Rebuilding my 2nd one at the moment. It took me a while to get my hands on the sleeve cylinder removal tool. Curious how you will remove these sleeves without destroying them.
Its part of the process of learning for me at the moment, this is my first time tearing one down so I am looking at what can be done without the special tools and what I will absolutely need as a minimum. Good to know that I might have to invest in the cylinder sleeve removal tools, thanks :) For now its not a problem as I am doing this work for myself and will not be taking on any panigale engines until I am 100% comfortable with them, the tools needed and being able to do a good job.
@@DesmoWerx Let me know if you need tips. This might be one of the top 10 most complex motorcycle engine out there. I went through hell and back on mine but I finally got there
Nellie, inspirational tear down. Burt Munro would be impressed. Going 180° , what is the engine mount that you're using, is it adjustable for most Ducati engines. 👍👍👍👍😎( HOKITIKA STH WESTLAND NZ)
Love a good testa Evo but these make such good power with so few failures it’s hard to beat them. Why was this one torn down? I remember you swapping the early R engine into your 1199, but you never mentioned why.
Hi Rob, this engine has had its numbers removed by the breakers who sold the bike after it was written off so the cases are no use to me. I have other cases and will eventually build this up as a spare for the track bike.
Wow that looks complicated... looking forward to the crank spliting buddy 👍
It was a bit more challenging than my normal work but was an enjoyable learning experience 😀
Super quadro. New beast, new tools and new skills
Hopefully so, if I enjoy working on them. My favourite engines are the 748/916 series personally but it could open more options for other work if I can gain a good understanding of them.
You make it look so easy!
Enjoyed watching.
Thanks so much 😊

Thanks, glad you are watching and getting some value from the channel 👍😎
Thanks a bunch for putting the work into this series.
My pleasure, glad you are enjoying it 😊
Вы молодец. Спасибо, что показываете свою работу! Так держать!
Thanks for watching 👍😊
Hi did you ever manage to do the other part to this video, keep up the good work great video’s
Thank you - enjoyed that and looking forward to the next one .
Thanks for watching, the case split will be soon. 👍
By the way, you made mention of the steel water pump drive gears ... for my 1199 I got them from Ducati Kaemna in case you need them
Thanks, I may have some but that is handy to know 👍🙂
Really looking forward to this vid series ....
Thanks for watching 👍😎

very nice and informative video!

Fantastico!!!!! Bel video, favoloso il superquadro smontato
Thanks 👍😎
Should be interesting also love the way you fast forward the bits so I dont have to
Glad you are enjoying the vids 👍🙂
Loving your videos! I thought I wanted to get a 1199 but not so sure now 😬
Get one but just don't strip it down 🤣
hi sorry to trouble you great channel ! can i ask did you make a part two for the bottom end cheers
Hi Not yet, I have a backlog of customer work. Will get round to my own projects again soon 😊

Interesting, not worked on these engines before so I do not know if that would be a common problem with age.

Not sure on the value of the internals, its really a buyers market for these sorts of parts, I tend to hold on to them for when I might need them. 👍

Will get back to the 1199 once I have completed the 2 customer builds I have on the go.
@@DesmoWerx very much looking forward to that once you get the chance. I have a 1299 bottom end to tear down soon. Part 1 is the best guide I've seen.

Have episode 2 been done yet?
Not yet, lots of work on with customer engines at the moment. I have got some more of the tooling so will hope to squeeze in another video soon
Made that look easy😅 where can i find the engine stand you have?
Thanks 😎 the stand is a Pierobon stand, they may still have them available on their website.
Nellie, inspirational tear down. Burt Munro would be impressed. Going 180° , what is the engine mount that you're using, is it adjustable for most Ducati engines. 👍👍👍👍😎( HOKITIKA STH WESTLAND NZ)
Thanks Kris, the stand is a Perobon stand specifically made for the Panigale engines so covers the 899, 959, 1199 and 1299 range.

I’ll stick with the 2 valve stuff, thanks! 😂
🤣 Don't blame you !!
Why are you stripping the engine and great vid as always
Cases are junk as the number was removed due to the bike being CAT B
I see the waterpump. Conversion to steel is just about £220, well worth it for the peace of mind! Unless I have calculated it wrong!
I think I may have a kit in the panigale spares pile I bought 🙂 but good to know there still available if needed 👍
Where's the second video?
I am catching up on some customers engine builds at the moment, when i get some time back I will return to stripping the 1199.
Why the strip down ?, could u please tell us the fault you are repairing
The strip down is to get the parts out of the engine as the cases are not usable anymore, I have another set of cases I can use but no gearbox etc
Thanks for the response looking forward to more
Thank you so much!!!
You're welcome, glad you are watching 🙂
