This is one of the BEST redesign ever from a older gen. Toyota hit the ball out the park with this new model. It looks great on the outside and inside.
It has a very muscular look to it doesnt look fat and round like the Honda Pilot

Nope, it is Direct Injection for 2017! Usually DI means somewhat noisier than indirect / port injected ones. Even a Merc or Audi DI has that diesel like clatter of DI....they mask it well with heavy insulation.

+Dealzguy It's a D-4 system so it's not as loud as DI. Also isn't it supposed to do better mpg?

I actually own a 2015 XLE, the car is perfect, take my word on this, it is a better SUV than the Pilot and Pathfinder. Well, everything is better than the pilot.

The Highlander is heavier, it has dual over head cams rather than a single over head cam in the pilot, it comes equipped with sequential shift control, its wheel diameter is 19 inches rather than 18, the rear cargo door is a power lift gate rather than just a lift gate, the Highlander has actually has a roof rack where as you only get only rails in the Pilot, the Highlander has an auto dimming rear view mirror, the Highlanders driver seat thigh support is power, where as you don't get any thigh support in the Pilot, it has a front center armrest, the seat material is made out of leather rather than cloth, the door trim insert is made of leatherette rather than cloth, the steering wheel material is made of leather and metal look rather than urethane in the Pilot, the radio in the Highlander comes with SiriusXM AM/FM/Satellite rather than the AM/FM stereo in the Pilot, the integrated navigation system in the Highlander comes with voice activation where as you don't get navigation in the Pilot, you get 2 first row LDC monitor's in the Highlander rather than 1 in the Pilot, the Highlander has a heavier curb weight and gross weight, the Highlander is taller, and has more legroom in the front and more hip room in the third row.

+astrogen1960 Yes the plywood test! It really is the mother of all adaptability tests especially in an era when 3 ton pickups often have 5 foot beds.

Nice review, it's a shame the hybrids are so much more expensive and hard to find.
How long do the battery packs last, and how much does it cost to replace them? I've heard of a Highlander Hybrid that was used as a taxi managing 300,00 miles before needing to replace the battery pack, and it costing US$7,000 to replace them, but this was from a car dealer, so not the most reliable information.
And the Toyota Sienna SE is the Best looking minivan.

Hey, I've been thinking about buying a 3 row suv. I've been looking at sorento, highlander and pilot. I dont like the way pilot looks. So, What would you go with sorento or highlander?
+Klay Thompson Highlander. I bought a new 2014 Highlander LE Plus V6 2 years ago, and it rides like a champ. Smooth and powerful for everyday usage. The resale value of the Highlander is superior to the Sorento.
Oh, that's great. After test driving Highlander and Sorento, I'm leaning towards buying the Highlander. I will probably buy a used limited model that doesn't have a lot of mileage on it. Anyways, thanks for for your input.

They're good just dont get a hybrid...too complicated and they cost a lot to fix as things go out, otherwise the highlander is great

+Ivan Vojt how much height do you need/want ? I own the 2015 XLE, if you place the first and second row of seats exactly in the center, and the recline the third row all the way back and the headrests up, then it's comfortable for everyone. That being said, if I am honest, it's not the most ergonomically seating position. My friend and I (who is 6"1-6"2) travelled in the third row from Ottawa to Mont-Tremblant and back no problem. Give it a try next time, maybe it will work out.
+Basil Akasheh Doesn't need much more, I know Toyota was going for the sloping roof line look. But having to either recline back and lose what little behind the 3rd row storage is left or crane your neck to the side is pathetic. I didn't have these issues on a last gen Pilot. Yet the Pilot was boxier.
