- Midsize hybrid SUVs don't come much better equipped or priced than the Toyota Highlander Hybrid, which has been out for three generations. Is a semi-luxury SUV sometimes powered by electricity worth all your budget? We’ll say this: The Highlander Hybrid packs a lot more surprises than just fuel economy.
Driven as this model is intended, the Highlander Hybrid delivers a seamless, utterly relaxing experience that’s 90 percent worthy of a Lexus RX. The regular model’s 3.5-liter V6 is detuned in favor of a fuel-efficient Atkinson combustion cycle, which drops horsepower from 270 to 231. But when combined with two electric motors, including one at the rear axle that qualifies the vehicle for all-wheel drive, the Hybrid delivers 280 combined horsepower that’s sufficient despite the extra weight of the nickel-metal hydride battery and electric motors. To answer to what you said that if it worth it to drive a hybrid, right now with the gas price that it's really low, no it doesn't . But let's not forget, having hybrid is not just for saving, it is also for environment. If you care about both like I do, then you're on the right car.
Good job on the review. But let me call out few small things missing, used to have it even in a 2010 model. Side Rear view mirrors tilt down in Reverse, rain sensing wipers, LED tail lights, HID low beam etc. Guess some of this is getting corrected in the 2017 model including direct injection and 8 speed.
Wait for '17, the Hybrid is suppose to be available in all trim levels.
I'd wait for the 2017 model year refresh with some significant updates.

We are planning to buy a used 2016 Limited Platinum trim, so to learn about them we came here. Glad I did. Learned so much in this succinct and thorough, to the point video.... By the way, have you married and begun filling up the car seats yet? You brought it up, leaving the world wanting to know.
"A couple of thousand" implies around 2,000. The Hybrid Limited is 7,000 extra over the regular Limited. Please do not mislead people like that. It is even more expensive than the volume seller which is XLE.
