- It's always fun finding something useful that you didnt know you had. The highlander since 2014 has had one of these features that most people dont know they have. This is in the 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019 and even in the new generation 2020 and 2021 2022 2023 #Toyota #highlander .

I just got My Highlander Limited a month ago and this video showed me something the salesman did NOT show, the cargo cover! Thanks for taking the time to make this. I've been pulling the cover out of my highlander and putting it back in every time I needed it. Didn't know it had a hiding spot back there. This was much needed.

I had a 15 yo Highlander and just about 6 weeks ago I bought a really nice 3 yo Highlander to replace it. Of course my old car didn’t have this option.
As soon as I watched this, I went to the garage and checked it out. I was so glad to see mine had this, especially since it’s used.
I started watching videos to replace a part that was damaged when I purchased the vehicle. I used that video to do my removing and installing of that part. So glad I continued watching videos just for the heck of it!!
Now if I could just find gas and brake pedal extenders, I would be happy.

Thanks for the video. Before I viewed the video, I purchased the 2021 Platinum, asked salesman if I could purchase the cargo cover and they did not have them in stock. Later the next day looking for tricks and found your video. Checked the back as you instructed and there it was. Many thanks saved me the cost of the unit!

Steven, I have a 2021Toyota Highlander Limited. I have had since December 2021. I was going to buy a cargo cover. I am so glad I looked at your tutorial on hidden features. My 2011 Highlander I can't remember but I think it was already set up. And I was looking for instructions to install the cargo net I bought and I saw the hidden features and decided to look at it. I am so glad I did. Salesman did not tell me. I kind of had an idea how to put in the net from my 2011 Highlander but I did not realize all I had to do was pull the hooks on the bottom. Plus I did not have on my glases and di not ant o break anything, Love the information! Thank you!

I did not know that my 2019 XLE had that special holder for the rear cover. My Highlander came with it, when I bought it brand new. I usually take it out and put it on the floor of the second row, when the dog goes for a ride with me. Thank you so much. I am loving your videos!

Wow just stumbled up on this!! Just bought my 13 Highlander Aug 30th this year 24! The cover was in place and had to take it out, so I stored it in the garage until I needed it!! Now I know where it goes!!

Great to know where to place the cover when using the third row. I have a 2018 SE, and was irritated when I had to take it out because my wife needed to use the 3rd row and I didnt know it had a storage spot. Awesome information.

Have a 2012 that I've had for 4 years. Already knew about it and it's storage space. Not because of the salesman but because I was taught to make sure all the tire changing gear is there when you purchase a car.

I just bought a 2019 Highlander XLE, and I haven't looked in the "well" yet.
I fall into that category of people who set their vanity covers in their garage. I only ever use one when my wife and I are traveling, just so would be thieves DON'T see what's in the back, but the Christmas gift concept is good too. I was just thinking about whether I should go buy one or not? MAN...Am I glad I watched this video!!!
I've learned more from watching your videos in 5 minutes than I did from reading this friggin' New York City phone book sized owners manual for 2 days!! Thank you. Keep us newbs in mind. I bought my wife a brand new 2016 Toyota RAV4 in 2016 and it was the best decision I ever made. I'm still trying to figure out how the heck to STOP that damned Seat belt alarm????

thanks. is the seat belt alarm for weight in the back seats? if so plug on the seat belts and it will stop. also there are seat belt chime stoppers sold on amazon if you want to go that way. they are less than $10
Thanks for your awesome videos on highlanders. 5 days ago I got my new to me highlander xle & I love it. Your videos helped me figure out how to close the power gate when it got stuck open because the window was open, but even better after watching this video I went out & found exactly what you said the dealer didn't even realize was already there. We didn't even notice it when we opened everything up while looking at it before we bought it & we had planned on buying one but now don't have to with a brand new one already in it. Thanks again!!!

My 2004 Highlander Limited V6, 4WD came with the tonneau cover installed. Mine not only unrolls to the rear but there are 2 covers (one left one right) that roll out and snap into the receptacles on the back of the 3rd seats so there is full concealment of the rear cargo area. But thanks to your video I now know that there is a storage location for the assembly when not in use. Like others here I always stored it at the house when rarely using the 3rd seat. Good to know.

Very true, when I purchased my 2022 Platinum I was unaware that it came with the cover. As a part of the negotiations requested one then discovered I already had it and cancelled the order. Apparently, they were unaware as well.

I have a 2013 Toyota Highlander Plus and I still have the cover. When I purchased my vehicle it was still pulled out oh I brought Irene over a year ago. Love her to pieces 🥰

My parents have a 2017 Limited TRD Highlander, 3 row seat ! I cannot wait to show this to them.
It's also in the 2nd gen 2008 to 2013, Limited trim models. My 2010 Highlander Limited has this.

I had a 2009 Highlander, XLE. It had a Cargo Cover , which I used! Traded it in for a 2015… NO Cover. I asked about it. Was told they weren’t doing them anymore. The Dark tint on back windows took the place of it. I doubted that. I have something that sounds like Golf Balls rolling around . Was hoping you were going to show me a hidden compartment that I could search! This car doesnt have the cover , but all the squares to insert one! Thanks for that info.

I have a 2020 platinum hybrid. I knew I had it. My salesmen were great about going over the car with me.
There are a lot of good ones especially with Toyota but alot are new or dont care etc

Aww man, you got me excited. I just bought a used 2014 limited and immediately ran out to check if the tonneau cover was there. It was not.
Then someone took it out. It would have came standard with it. Maybe reach out to the person you got it from if it was a person. If it was a dealer or auction then you just wont have it cause they didnt get it

I previously had the 2013 Toyota Highlander and it hooked onto the back seat as well so that there is no visible gap between the seat and the cover. Now, my 2018 Highlander does not hook onto the back seat and there’s a visible gap where your stuff can be seen in that gap….why did they make it like that? Doesn’t make sense?!
Yes I have the 2021 Limited Highlander and my salesperson went through the vehicle to show me this stored cover and all the rest of the options.

I just got my Highlander and I love this feature. The 1st day I got it, I noticed it was for the cargo. Idk why hatchbacks and other SUVs don't have it. I rather carry it in my car where it's nicely stored away, than putting it somewhere in my garage

You can also use that drape as a holder if you want to recliner the back middle seats back.
It uses it as a beam so the seats can be reclined and hold it in that spot.

@@stevenwelchtoyota yeah i think thats a bs reason from toyota. the window hatch was a prime feature since the first highlander back in 2000s. its obvious toyota removed it for cost cutting measures. half the time u need to put something in the trunk, or cargo area in this case, its a small item, a bag of groceries, no need to open the entire lift gate and put more wear and tear on it
I have a 2018 and I use mine often. I will say the gate raising quicker is something that was needed badly

Will you go over what tools are there under the rear cover? My 2018 LTD was bought new but I noticed that some slots are empty and the salesman said all tools are there but there are empty slots.

Our '19 Limited Platinum has this. One cool thing to know...our 2010 also had this same feature, and it was a base V6/awd model.

We have a 2008 toyota kluger (australian highlander) grande GSU45R. It has one stored in the same place and fits pretty well much the same. Tells you about it in the owners manual - its a long read though.

I have a 2007 toyota highlander, base model. Got sideswiped 3 years ago. Luckily only cosmetic damage. Took it to the body shop and when i got it back they had the back cover installed. I asked them if insurance covered it and they told me it was already in the car.
Surprised Pikachu face. I keep my gym bag and hockey bag in there and like to keep it covered.
