Thanks for the walk-through. I just got my speaker out of storage and the battery life is dismal. I found the complete battery assembly on Amazon for $23-28, but after watching your replacement method, I decided to copy you and just solder in a new cell (with leads) rather than unsoldering the 4 wires on the board and replacing the entire battery unit.
Nice fix! Agreed, Bose speakers are unfriendly in servicing. This one was pretty straightforward, but I once had one that was TARFU by design. After getting to the battery, I'd test both the battery itself and the MOSFET transistors on the BMS (battery management system) board. These parts are notorious for failing. 18650 batteries are mighty popular, they're the most mainstream type of Li-Ion batteries out there, your Thinkpad has six of them if it's the older model with a battery pack that slides in from the back and latches. Spot welding can be done with spot welder kits or a plain ol' modded microwave oven transformer with HV winding replaced with a few turns of heavy gauge wire. You're correct, the BMS board has an integrated or external temperature sensor.
Thanks , another great video. Nothing worse than throwing things away that just need a little bit of money and patience to give them a new lease on life.
Great job, Srephe. I admit that I don’t necessarily care for SMD parts, but understand why they’re used. I’ve got a pile of little electronic things that my friends gave me to “take a look at, cuz they know I ‘like’ fixing electronics”, therefore I’ll do it for fun and fun means free in their minds. Just how I wanna spend my free time…lol. I just don’t have the heart to tell them to stop dropping off cheap broken crap for me to fix 😂
I'm listening to this video on my bose soundlink. The battery life has gotten poorly, though. I have a bunch of those batteries. For flashlights. But I think I will get the kit.
18650 batteries, best around for vaping. :-) You have a large number of them around. As long time vape fan I advice to be VERY caution with those batteries when you work with them. Serious fire hazard if they shorted. Dont take that sleve and that plastic ring on top of it please, then they can short very easy. If you wanna go with Samsung still go for Samsung INR18650 30Q 3000mAh 20A, great battery. Or try some Molicel INR18650-P28A and Molicel INR18650-P26A. Great video btw.
I am finding opening the screws very hard. They are very tight, eventhough I bought the T10 screw driver from market specifically for these, they are slipping while unscrewing. Looks like BOSE wanted these never to be opened by non-bose guys..
@SkunkieDesignsElectronics have given up on them now :(. Updated the bose driver and was detected on my laptoo and its working fine now. Waonder if i have to open in future how i would do that. Bose technicians quote bomb to even look at speaker.. Though thanks for your video, covered well how to replace batteries..
Nailed the battery replacement perfectly with help from this video and the brilliant queen behind it. You’re the best!

Thanks for spending the time and effort making and sharing this!

Absolutely! I have a Monday rant about this :)
The battery information was on the pink sleeve. Samsung 18650 2600mAh. Great that you are repairing this unit.
I see that now, there were numbers all over this battery :P

Thanks for the tip 😊
Every pieces of electronics are to be serviced by Skunkie.
What a wonderful idea, I have one so this could be super handy !
Throw away World.... 🙂Nice fix!
Thanks!

I got 5-6 years old Audio Technica hi-end bluetooth headphone. I may need to perform the internal battery rellacement operation too in the future.
Thanks for the Video...
Thank you!!!
You're welcome!
When youre rolling the cover back over the device its extremely important to saueeze the reservoir tip!
LOL!!!

This is why I bought one with the wires already attached rather than a cheaper bare cell.
What is the Craftsman part number?
I would just buy the single driver, I think I say the size in the video?
I want to start to fix things thnx DIY time.
Caution: The foam is to keep the wires from rattling against the speaker and housing when in use.
Good point.
Good job! Wise move getting a battery with its wires already connected; thermal runaway of these things is not pretty!
Right and I could see someone trying to solder to a Li battery DIY from my video, burning their house down and getting a call from their lawyer.
nella mia ha smesso di funzionare il bluetooth, some posso fare?
It's probably dead :(

yeah, very BS using those kinds of screws. Maybe you can drill the heads off? Like the thing is broken so what the hay?
