The one shot I've seen of that actually had them on the wristband part of her glove. But I'm not sure those were offense or defense material.
@@marhawkman303 There isn't a designated color for "offense" or "defense" It's green for magic, red for summons, yellow for commands, blue for support (support means linking, not support spells), and purple for independent materia (which has no use for linking).

@5:36 - elemental ALWAYS added a buff to the weapon based on what it was paired with so long as it was placed on the weapon, this hasn't changed.
Specifically, in the original game if you placed elemental paired with fire on your armor then you would gain a resistance to fire damage, if you placed an elemental materia paired with a fire materia on your weapon then you gained a damage bonus against enemies weak to fire but a damage reduction against enemies resistant to fire.
What is changed is that it now also increases the damage done by a %. So it becomes elemental and a % damage boost.
Also, I do believe it allows additional effects(based on chance), based on the element, like burning from using Fire materia+Elemental on a sword. Or it could be that certain enemies simply catch fire if attacked with fire based damage.
Glad I'm not the only one that caught that.
Apparently not much, if anything, has changed with the Elemental Materia abilities then, @@fendelphi. Remember in the original FFVII your Materia needed to level up in order to provide better bonuses other than being there for decoration for the most part. So if I am understanding this Materia information correctly not much changed with the Materia itself. There is new Materia to be had. I am wondering how the new Materia will change things. I wonder how the Huge Materia and even Master Materia will change things as well.
You're both correct. 1 star was 25 % (atk/def) 2 star 50% 3star was 100 and if there is a 4 star then it overflows to 125. You'll have to forgive me if the numbers aren't exactly right. But the other argument is valid. Elemental/Added Effect materia has different buffs based on weather attached to a weapon or armor. Using Hades or Destruct with Added Effect in a weapon really can cripple the enemy. On the otherside Hades+Added Affect in Armor is damn near a Ribbon. - Cheers guys! Let's enjoy this game!!
For example fire + elemental on armor:
1 star: halves damage from fire attacks
2 star: nullifies damage completely from fire attacks
3 star: absorbs damage from fire attacks (you get healed not hurt)
4 star: no different to 3 star, this is mastered materia and all you get is a new elemental materia for your troubles.
On your weapon the level of the materia doesn't matter, damage dealt is based on the enemy's weaknesses so fire + elemental on a weapon will be halved/nullified/absorbed/increased based on the enemies elemental attributes not your materia level. Basically the game uses your strength stat vs their armor stat to calculate how much damage the enemy will take, then treats your attack like an element and calculates a buff/debuff value based off of the enemies weakness/strength to the element.
Not sure how things change for the new game though, if they do at all.

of hell ya i second that legend of dragon was also one of the top best RPGs of all time and would most definitely benefit from this sorta treatment but you know what would benefit a thousand times more from it is Chrono Trigger

I've been wondering about the late game chocobo racing/knights of the round and the optional mega bosses that were total BS to fight. I hope they make knights of the round a bit easier to get. I remember grinding out those stupid races over and over and over when i was a kid.
Given the length of that original cutscene compared to, say, Ifrit's - I presume they will be fighting along side you for about 20 minutes. ;)

Also, i think it's cute that in XV , Prompto (who is a gunner class character) sings the victory theme after battle. In the VII remake, Barrett (also a Gunner class character) songs the victory theme after battle also.
When Mike was asking Luke what he'd say to someone very short giving him orders ( 3:00 ) I fully expected a "That wasn't very polite, Ellen" kind of response.
Luke does what Ellen tells him to do, so he's use to taking orders from those much shorter than him.
3:00 is that not just the experience of having a cat?

I am looking forward to the golden saucer and all things chocobo related.. as well as the snowboarding mini game! With the graphics overhaul if they actually manage to redo and make EVERYTHING better... omg I don't even care how much this game costs, I think i'd take a payment plan to get it if I had to.

I thought Cloud and Barret's voices would feel weird to me, but actually... Tifa just sounds... bad... I can't put my finger on it. It's like everyone else is giving a performance to feel realistic, and she's doing a stage performance with weird inflections and wooden emotions. I dunno, maybe these were just bad clips for her.

MGS4 may be a short movie with options but Xenosaga and its over 7 hours of cutscenes is more like a miniseries with options.
I was introduced to FF7 when I played Kingdom Hearts and thought “this Cloud dude and Sephiroth character seem pretty interesting. I wonder what’s up with them?” And then I found Advent Children and had no idea what was going on except that it was epic, and then I found the wiki and was all ‘okay, okay’ and then I found the fan fiction and it was all a downhill slope from there. So I’ve never actually played Final Fantasy 7 (not in its entirety, anyways) but I am definitely looking forward to the remake and have absolutely pre-ordered it.
Same, except I have played the original ff7 in its entirety, including getting all of the final limits, extra scenes, materia maxed out, etc.

I did play FFVII...after watching Advent children, playing through most of crisis core, playing kingdom hearts 1 & 2 and reading through a whole lot of fanfiction.
I personally found FFVII a little underwhelming when I did actually come around to it. The plot and its twists are great, but most of them I already knew. Barely any side quests, outdated though functional battle system. I was mostly just spamming cool but often time-consuming attacks and doing lots of grinding (even chocobo breeding requires grinding, though of a different kind). I won’t say ‘don’t play it’, because it did get me more hyped, but I won’t advice you to play it either.

Disk one(1997) actually goes on all the way to the Temple of the Ancients.
I thought disc 1 finished after the jenova fight on the ship.

It's interesting to me how common it is for people to misremember where the disk splits are in FFVII. Even people who are huge fans of the game get it wrong. I suppose it's like "Beam me up, Scotty." which is never actually said in Star Trek.

10:00 the new dialogue is GREAT and *really* important for this to feel like a "fresh" game instead of just any old remake. I felt I was able to get a better feel of the relationships between everyone just by the way they talked to each other and what they talked about.

Yeah the original is still damn good and I feel you're going to miss some story beats in the remake. I already saw several story elements being changed in the trailers. Plus, I mean, the remake will only have so much content and you'll be itching for more.
If you choose not to, I urge you to consider trying it after the entire remake is released in the year of our lord 3051.

Important question: can you pause cutscenes? I feel like every game should indicate that somewhere before you start it, before that it's that uncertainty "do I risk skipping the cutscene or do I wait until it's done?"
In the demo you can. And Skip them. Not sure if this will remain in the game though.

The phrase, "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!" comes to mind about the Final Fantasy VII remake.
Yeah, persistent summons is a brilliant idea. Kind of like what they tried to do with FFX, though with that the summon took the place of the party. I think I prefer this, with them fighting alongside. It's going to feel epic af!
Preferably with the persistent summons, @@LnPPersonified, I would like it if your summons would have a greater chance of listening to you the more you level up their specific Materias. Not only this, but the longer they would last on the field as well. As far as I can remember about the original FFVII you can only summon as many times as your Summons Materia is leveled. Perhaps in the Remake leveling up their Materia they will last a minute longer per level.
I love seeing Mike so excited! His usual car excitement, which I also enjoy, but geared towards an other genre is just great! Love you guys!

I’m with mike, I am a bit concerned about how long it’ll take for the next part. Like I totally understand it’ll take awhile but I almost feel I’d rather wait and get all the parts at once then this episodic thing. But we shall see, maybe they’ve been secretly working on all the parts at once and they’ll only be a year between them.

@@RuneKatashima Will do, I already know about a couple things, but for the most part I should be pretty blind going in.
From the previous demos shown I wasn’t actually looking forward to this too much. There was just something about the combat that was off for me. But now after watching this video it’s completely changed, I’m starting to get hyped up for it. The summoning change looked great and I’m not sure if they tinkered with the base gameplay since the e3 demo or if I’m just remembering incorrectly, but it looks a lot more solid and like it’s flowing better.
It feels very much like FFXII which has always been one of my favorite installments in the series. I can't wait for this.
the real time stuff looks like a massive improvement from crisis core style gameplay. I just hope the attack portions aren't too automatic/scripted or if it is that they flow as well as the ones in the prince of persia games... made it feel like YOU were the one doing all that stuff.
It's amazing I mean you could control your person get commands to the other people while everybody's attacking at the same time I think the only week is part about the Battle system is going to be the tummy you know they're only out for a little bit of time you can only use them under certain situations I didn't disappear I kind of wish it was more like ff10 but you know we're not going to get a perfect game here I mean maybe the summoning might seem more better as you actually play it yourself it just watching it
Elemental materia worked on weapons in the original, too. I used it with the poison materia all the time!
Barret tackling the victory fanfare in the middle of a run was fantastic. Like a cherry on top of a cake. 😄
I'm pretty glad this is getting a good remake. While this isn't my favorite Final Fantasy, (6 is) the graphics didn't age well like the old 2D games did. Playing it again, neither did the dialogue. I'm excited.
to be fair, its localization was pretty bad. Then again most Sony-published games in the late 90s/early 2000s had horrid localizations (*cough* Legend of Dragoon *cough*)
VI's original localization (as III on SNES) was also not that great. Though there, Woolsey had less than 6 months to localize it. Thankfully the GBA/mobile/Steam version exists, which has a MUCH better localization (despite what Woolsey fanatics think)

Heh. doubt I will live that long. Going to enjoy what I can of it while I'm still here. I just hope there isn't too much paid DLC along with the expensive expansions and having to at some point buy the new platform. And I hope they do gold saucer justice. But some years until next part means I can have a nice save ready for part 2. I'll probably make 18 profiles on my PS4 and play through a bunch of times.

If this first game is as long as they're saying (30+ hours), I don't understand waiting. They're making it its own full game, so it's basically a series. It would be like saying in 2007 you're not playing Uncharted until all 4 are out 10 years later.
Doesn't make sense, this is really a full game! Just that the story will continue one day.
They're making it itself own full game. Which us to say over 60+ of gameplay; a fully fleshed out story and the works. FF7 is a huge endeavour that even back in the day required multiple discs to play. Consider it akin to FF13 and it's sequels. All full games. But they function as sequels.
Well about the Elemental materia
You get the element defence if you pair it in your armour, pair on weapons you get element on your basic attack
some of the active battle scenes reminded me of "The Bouncer" which I think was the first square game to have active battle style
Disk one ends after 'THE' tragic part in the shell village. Which is more then half way in the story, and you'll already have covered the majority of the world too. (Certainly not after leaving Midgar) Also, why are there summons in Midgar, you should not be getting those till you hit the Chocobo farm, on the world map. If the first episode ends with leaving Midgar then there should not be any summons in the game yet.
Still, it looks fantastic, And am looking forwards to getting that more fleshed out and perhaps even more gripping telling of this, most epic tale.
My reservation, would be that I'm hoping that this first part is not too much fan service, in giving you too many things now, to flesh out this episode one. And give you things that should have been the expansion to the combat system, that originally evolved as you progressed the game.
I'm with you on the summons part. And even more irritated at the fact that there are DLC summons that you get with pre-orders. I love a lot of the improvements that they are making, but this is really feeling like a remake, just to milk a cash cow. They have had millions of requests for 15+ years to have FFVII remastered and refused to do so. Claiming that they would only remake FFVII when they make a new FF that outdid FFVII.
To my knowledge, FFVII is still the best performing FF game, to date. I am really wondering if they are doing this as a cash grab. If you are able to obtain Summons that are hours of play away, in the original, or (should be) several releases away, in the new release format, what other drastic changes are they going to make, that doesn't keep true to the original.
To clarify, I am not saying that the game needs to be an exact copy. I am enthusiastic about expanding on the original game. It is just that I am seeing things that feel like moves that EA would do, just to milk a cash cow. FFVII is great, because of how it revolutionized gaming and the amazing story that they put together. To tarnish that, is an affront to the original game and the fans that have been pushing for the remake for almost 2 decades.
I was curious as to how they get Leviathan, shouldn’t get him til the Wutai side mission.
@@waterlooehwa2380 Ifrit should be attained after Junon, in route to Costa Del Sol, on the ship. And yes, Leviathan is part of Wutai. Which is close to 1/3 of the way through the entire story. Those changes seem small to people, but I feel that those are some pretty massive changes.
odisdracul that’s right, it was the first fight against Jenova when you get ifrit. I wish they would have kept that more in line with the original, idk how Summon materia is acquired in this new Remake.
agreed. BUT! maybe we will get new summon monsters when we reach Junon and Wutai. (although I believe Leviathan was a deity that they worshipped in Wutai so that would mess up the story flow)
I remain skeptical. Especially on the release "schedule".

At least they already have the gameplay and many of the assets and gameplay done, which means that development will likely be faster than the first one, and there will be less of a chance of development hell.
Elemental materia existed in the old game as well, and functioned the same way. If it was in your armor, it gave resistances, if it was in your weapon it added that damage type to your attacks.
The thing about elemental materia was always a thing, it was based on if you put it on your weapon or armor. Your weapon didn't SHOW that it had the element (ie. it wasn't on fire or anything) but it added that damage type.
I must have clocked in around 500 hours at least on FF7 back in the day and never realized jessie was a girl>_>

in my memory of this game the first disk basically takes part in midgar but when ive played it since then i realised that midgar is barely 1/3 of the first disk, i think it just seemed longer first time round because i spent 4 hours trying to find a dress or a wig for cloud lol
I just refreshed my subscription and I see like 5 videos from 5 different channels having a Final Fantasy 7 Remake video.

I was really concerned about the direction they were taking with the remake, but now I'm super hyped, I can't wait to buy it..... once the whole game is released.
Not sure about in the actual game but in the demo you have some quick buttons to use the advanced moves, spells, and items. I believe that i got to them by holding L1 in battel. Also you did have the ability to equip Elemental Materia with a Fire, Ice, Bolt, and others to the weapon with a double connected Materia slot to add that effect to your weapon. There qas also one for status effects that you could do the same thing to add status effects to all your attacks or in reverse using armor slots you could gain resistance to them.
This video and an email announcing the FF7R Demo is out, ahhh! So excited! I'll watch this as it downloads 😁
While I think that it is correct that this part of the release will end when you leave Midgar, the original Disk 1 had much more and just Midgar, not ending until after your first visit to the northern continent and the sad end of a teammate.
@Lord Pigpen O'Dirt No, the release that comes out April has 2 Blueray disks worth of content. They havent given any specifics about how far into the story it goes.
@Lord Pigpen O'Dirt If it is 2 discs I could see it potentially covering all the events from the first continent with the fight against jenova on the boat being the end boss.

2:00 Makes me wonder if the Knights of the Round Summon will be in the game, if so it's gonna be super OP when you Summon 15 super strong guys onto the field to fight for you
If it is put in i imagine it would work similar to how the summon actually worked. You bring out each knight one at a time and it does its thing with the last one doing the big flashy final attack. The duration would probably be equal to how long the other summons stick around for. I am more looking forward to the bahamuts. Just want to see a giant sized space dragon blasting the crap out of things.

5:59 - Elemental materia always worked that way - add it to armor and you resist that element. Add it to a weapon and it causes that element to be added to your weapon.

I had my reservations, especially about combat and voice acting, but this is look really good! I feel like I can relax and allow myself to get genuinely excited!
Mike I'm gonna blow your mind you could always use elemental materia to make your attacks do elemental damage, it depends if it was in your weapon or accessories, its good to hear the command materia expands the action parts as I was worried it would get stale but I can see a lot of potential with cut all and double cut materia, sooooooo excited after the demo!! I think its gonna end after clouds story in calm so it ends with a sephiroth boss fight, you hit the nail on the head tho the wait for part 2 is gonna be painful
I'm full of excitement, this looks absolutely amazing, but at the same time I've already had my heart broken so many times I fear I might never be able to love another remake ever again
hoping for a FFIV remake with this amount of dedication and change (despite the numerous remakes and sequels before)

Played the demo and I was sorry to see it end. Looking forward to this game so much.
I wonder if the remake will include the missing content that the Japanese version had over the US version... and if they'll finish the bits of story that were completely cut for budget and time reasons the first time around (which is what lead to the bugs with Aerith in the first place)
Other way around-- International release had a bunch of content added (a lot of bugs were fixed, adjustments to esoteric puzzles to make them less esoteric, some story beats-- the entire Nibelheim basement flashback was exclusive to the International release, which is why something so pivotal to the story is tucked away in such an weird, easily missed location). When the game was rereleased in Japan it was done as the 'International Version', which gave the original Japanese audience all the things they had missed the first go-around.
@@MmeCShadow There's still a lot that ended up being cut. My understanding is that there are entire locations and scenes that were cut but are still in the code. Cannot personally verify, I'm not a programmer. But that's what I've heard.
I wish grandia got this amount of love in its re release. FF7 is ok, it never grabbed me like it did friends (i started with ff8) but it's good to see something iconic still able to have new tricks.
Sounds like Barret took some tips from Prompto in not letting some things die, like the victory fanfare

@@Psoewish maybe I just grow too attached to monsters who are supposed to be good guys, but that game loved having you kill good monsters. If there are monsters and other creatures in your universe that are good and protagonistic, that gives your world depth and charm that makes me want to explore your world, and when you kill off half of the non-human creatures that are supposed to be good in your game, that removes a lot of that charm for me. I think I'm doing my math right I say about half. There's about four of them that got killed off, but then there is also Repede, Ba-ul, Gnome and Ifrit. those are the only ones I can think of.
I'm honestly curious if the urban legend of a sex scene between Cloud and Tifa is going to resurface (BTW it never happened)

There was never an explicitly shown scene of them having sex, but If you've been good to Tifa, when everyone leaves the Highwind before the Raid on Midgar, it is HEAVILY implied that Cloud and Tifa sleep together.
My school mates all looked forward to the next kingdom hearts games, and shared all their experiences. I never got to play and keep up that trend with them. What i did play was classic FF7, it is my favorite game, i played it to death. That is why this can't come soon enough. When i heard the first release date was the day after my birthday i was overjoyed. Now im just giddy with anticipation reserving my copy. Thank you Oxtra for the insider first looks. 👋👍🙏
