It still must of been an amazing time 60’s early 70’s to go in and buy a car like this, any car of that time either Mopar, GM or Ford. Great informative video 👍
Nothing better than an original Superbird! The 70 RR 440 6bbl is great too of course, but the wing cars are just beyond anything else ever offered as a factory stock car and the coolest part is that it was all in the name of functionality and winning races.
There are a zillion videos of people showing the outside of these cars. But yours is a very nice techie video showing stuff below the surface and explained very well. That's were we start to understand the thinking of the guys who designed these cars. I see you have a lot of old Mopars. When you store cars over grass, you know they rust extra fast. Sometimes someone will give you an old pool cover for free that you can put over the ground before you roll the car over it. You need a lot of old covers!
All of the cars in the backyard are stored on old roof shingles, yes grass sprouts up in between but it makes a nice moisture barrier. Need to move cars and cut the weeds in that area.
Very cool. Another great video. I know where you can get a 1970 AAR to park next to them. Temporarily. 😉 If you want to show the "little brother" E body.
Good video. Good info. I live in St. Louis. I used to drive by the Chrysler plant on hwy 44 all the time and look at the acres and acres of bad ass cars they had ready to ship out. Actually the plant was in Fenton Mo. A suburb of St. Louis. I also had a friend that worked there for a while.
Joe dirt said any real mopar collector needs to have a superbird/Daytona and a roadrunner/gtx dig it. Video is Joe dirt approved even if their not hemi's and missing a chrome foot gas pedal. Hell yeah there cool!
Mr. B. Here ! 🍩☕️👀😎👍 : You sir, just took me back to my high school days my two favorite cars for that time ! Two buddies one had Super Bird same as you have show case & buddy #2 he Roadrunner I loved both vehicles . Am 72 and a Oldsmobile guy but styles and designs stand out for me . Your video is very informative & interesting now to me than the high school snot noise, shortly after school military service ! Thank for taken this old guy back in time 🍩☕️👀😎👍🇺🇸
Didn’t even know what it was, Midwest auto parts store chain? Performance shop? The Rosd runner spent most of its life in eastern Montana and the dakotas.
Ya its a old performance hot rod shop. It's the only one iv ever seen. It right next to the Cooker Tire museum in Chattanooga. Which is really cool,if you ever are in this area, I suggest you guys check it out. Are you guys going to the Moparty show?
Congrats on the 5K subs Tom . I'm curious since you said earlier you're not keeping the Superbird, how much more work are you going to put into further assembling it? I'd imagine whoever buys it will want to restore it, so most of the parts will have to come back off eventually anyway...
Can someone explain the difference on 68 RR on the deck/rear bumper? Wondering I see some with the badge or chrome along the entire back end and some just with plain two tail lights was that an option or? Thank you in advance.
I watched a video about a restored Marty Robbins wing car,the rig had a single pot master cylinder They were bad when they wore out and heated up and locked your brakes on
The Polyglas GT tires are the best looking tires ever. Though they are not particularly good for handling. They are hard and slippery. I wonder if the ones you have are reproductions, because, if they are, the must have cost a fortune. And if they are vintage, they have sure held up well for 44 year old tires. I hope you can mount them on Rally Wheels or even neo Road Runner Road Wheels. And get them tucked in behind the fender and restore the fender arch on the Road Runner. I suppose a case could be made for leaving it "kitch" since it was probably done around 1976 when Road Runners were not so valuable that guys would not kitch them up. Even 6 pack V code cars.
Quick question - Were the Superbirds geared differently than other performance cars? My recollection (which probably comes from conversations with other 20-somethings over beers, back in the day) is that Superbirds had lower numerical rear end ratio's for higher top speed. Compared to Road Runners or GTX's which were geared for acceleration?
So, why didn't all plants use the same VIN tag format? Was one plant simply older and using out-dated equipment? You'd think it would make more sense that all fender tags are identical format.
Mcacn sounds better than the real name, muscle car and “corvette” nationals, don’t want to say a Chevy. It really is the best car show going right now.
I know that the SuperBird is rare and worth alot of money......but for me thats the only 2 things......they're not good looking whatsoever.....that massive wing and that weird nose is 👎 the 70 Roadrunner is a beauty
These winged car videos are my kryptonite, love it
Both are nice, but if i had to choose, I'd pick the Road Runner ❤️.
Have always loved the 70 RR friends dad had a 70 GTX in the 80s and always loved that car.
Understand, road runner is a really cool car.
I was just thinking the same thing. Simpler and probably a lot of fun to run around in.

Must have been the best job in the world to be a salesman at a dealership in the 67-71 era.
It's great to see the past. Thanks
Thanks for watching!

Amazing the cost and lengths they went through to win a few races.
Both are absolute gems!❤
I love that 70 Road Runner, the Super Birds and Daytona's are beautiful cars but I'm probably the only Mopar guy that isn't a fan of the winged cars.
Appreciate the video thanks Tom. So much great information 👍
Thanks for watching!
Great informative video Tom.
Thanks for sharing these with us . Both super cool.
Love these cars... I had a '70 GTX new back then.
.
Gtx looks good too, they got different tail lights and grill than the Road Runner.
Nice
Not being a Billionaire kinda sucks some days- soooo many cool cars! Thanks for Sharing, Tom!

That v code will be mine someday when it becomes for sale

Mr B!!!🐝
Both are Amazing machines
Absolutely.
Such cool cars. Really miss the days of specialty cars from Detroit. Nondescript is the descriptor of today's cars with a few exceptions.
Very cool. I'm in Tennessee and there's a Honest Charlie's speed shop in Chattanooga.

Finish panel was decor package, no finish panel was non decor. All hardtops got the decor package.
@@rocketresto ah ok thank you.
Surprised Jamie hasn't reprimanded those slotted wheels on the road runner.😂

Same rears
Was the dash layout and interior the same on both cars ?

That is a good question I don’t know the answer to. Think every plant had some autonomy to do things a little different and they did.
Have the rear wheel openings on the road runner been cut out? They don't look like the super bird.
Yes, modified for big tires. Quarters are the same (other than holes for the wing).
Were all superbirds built at the same plant?
dodge coronet fenders on a plymouth -sacrilage
The Super Bird rear glass is 4 door '68 - '70 "B" body
Never knew that
That is not correct, it’s similar but the Superbird rear window is unique.
The main difference between the two is that the roadrunner looks better.
Think you might be right but the Superbird is just…a wing car.
When you're going 300 mph at Talladega or Daytona -----WTH they never went 300mph
Would you sell the road runner
Supposed to
Everything is for sale for the right price.
Funny thing..? Just the sound of "MACN" alone would keep me from ever going- I know really petty, but the pronunciation alone grates on my nerves.

@@rocketresto I know, but the acronym just odd to me. I know it's a "Me" thing, but everybody has something

Yes under the nose, have it but just haven’t installed it yet.

Love both of them.
You can't afford the Road Runner (a little less).
It’s a tough choice.
Easy one! One pretty one ugly.
