    This is a challenge for me. Helped me when you said give up the fight on a moment to moment basis and ask why doing certain things. Thank you for all you do

    Hi Nick. I'm in a relapse into desrealization, but I'm seeing it as something good for me to use the tools I've learned.

    Hey Nick i had a question...should I be actively trying to have the thoughts that scare me in order to sit with the thoughts/feelings exasterbate the thoughts or should I be going about my life and when the thoughts come agree with them and go about my business?

    • @OCDrecoveryNick
      @OCDrecoveryNick 24 дня назад +1

      Hey Joseph - It's a different combination of both together. We are going about our day just experiencing them when they happen, which will happen a lot as you and I know. But! We don't need to agree with them as this is a form of unhealthy engagement.

    Hello Nick, i still cant accept and im since several months working on acceptance, i always have the feeling i accept to overcome , and i know it doesnt work that way, but it feels like its automatic almost like a compulsion... can it be that some people cant accept? Or would you say maybe even the acceptance is not in our control and wilk happen when it happen?

    • @OCDrecoveryNick
      @OCDrecoveryNick 25 дней назад +5

      Hey Ruslan - It comes down to needing the acceptance more than anything which brings us further and further away from it, I did this a lot. I had to work on recovery whilst accepting I might not see the progress I am looking for. It sounds impossible but it can be done.

    For a long time, I have heard from OCD recovery coaches that ERP should be applied to intrusive thoughts. That means disregarding them, refocusing, and moving on!
    So, is this only effective if our beliefs are also addressed? Or should we only focus on changing our beliefs and not on refocusing?
    I’m a bit confused about this.

    • @OCDrecoveryNick
      @OCDrecoveryNick 22 дня назад +1

      Hey Bertal - Unfortunately OCD is still very misunderstood. As you and I both know we can't just 'disregard and move on' as OCD feels too real. We have to allow thoughts to be present but OCD thoughts are just a singular symptom of OCD, many people don't even have intrusive thoughts, more so sensations and urges. OCD isn't as simple as refocusing our attention, it's similar to telling someone who's having their arm chopped off to 'just don't be in pain'. Lol, we both know how that wouldn't work.

      @@OCDrecoveryNick So, if I understand correctly, disputing and changing irrational beliefs is the main thing and key to truly overcoming anxiety and OCD . Am I right?
