This is the second last song , part of a larger work called " The Ninth Wave". It's about a woman shipwrecked and floating in the sea , drifting in and out of consciousness. Hello Earth is about her having an out of body experience and looking down on herself adrift. It's just before she's found and rescued , which is depicted in the final album track. A masterful piece of songwriting and executed with skill . a daring and unusual song that only a genius like Kate Bush could pull off. The whole of "Ninth Wave" is my all time favourite piece of music. 🤘🏻🔥

It starts with Dream of Sheep where she is in the water. And the first lyrics are "little light shining" referring to a light on her life jacket.
So this tells one part of the story.

Awww, that Georgian folk song is my favorite part. She didn’t write it. It’s a masterful performance of a very famous Georgian song. It tugs at so many emotions and the way she embeds it within her song is so masterful. I think you might get the Georgian part of you hear it as part of the context of that second side of the album. Somebody wrote that these aren’t songs, it’s art... I agree. It’s like dreaming. She harnessing the power of emotional ambiguity that music has like a sorceress.

Thats the whole point of the gregorian vocal is to lull you into a calmness that you are suddenly woken up from with the first note of Morning Fog the folloeing and final track which is a new awakening after the nightmare shes just been through. You can be sure there is a reason for everything Kate does. And if youd let that song play through and heard The Morning Fog take flight you would have totally understood it.

This is from her own opus, "The Ninth Wave"that I was telling you about, this is toward the end of a seven part masterpiece...you REALLY gotta hear the whole thing. It is seven songs strung together. It deals with the idea of drowning. Stranded at sea, trying to stay awake to keep from drowning. There is beautiful traditional Celtic myth woven in. The depths of the sea are the depths of the Collective unconscious ....the whole epic is a journey into those
    depths.....Yikes!! Superb...

Modern music conditions your brain to think of “songs”. This track isn’t a song...it’s more of a “work of art”, you don’t listen to her music you feel it. This is more of a soundtrack that conjures up images and deep feelings. It gets better the more you listen to it. Initially I wasn’t keen on the male choir because it’s weird and different but gradually you’ll come to appreciate it’s brilliance too.

The entire side B is a suite that "consists of seven songs that tell the story of a young woman adrift at sea, drowning, waiting to be rescued", intended to be listened in specific order. It's beautiful, intentional and moving (makes my soul sing). When you get a chunk of time, put the headphones on, lay down, close your eyes and immerse yourself; I don't think you'll be disappointed! (Song order: And Dream of Sheep; Under Ice; Waking the Witch; Watching You Without Me; Jig of Life; Hello Earth; The Morning Fog)

He ninth wave is supposed to be heard in one sitting and this is the transition to the next part "the morning fog" where it awakens again. Nowadays people don't listen to albums in the right order, so you seldom see this kind of story progression from song to song. And certainly not in 8 mins reaction videos. Many people will happily watch a 3 hour Joe Rogan interview or a 5 hour playthrough of a game. Great to watch your reactions. Agree with many who have said here this is part of a suite of songs and deals with some themes around drowning. She first came to uk public attention in the late 70s but many of the early songs (not this) she wrote in her early teens. If you can go back and watch the progression it makes sense. Speaking from self experience she had a song for every emotion I've ever felt dealing with many turns in my life and one in particular that did not go well from being violently attacked and having no one to talk to about it till 4 years later. She has helped centre my soul and hope she does the same for many others xx

The chant is based on Gregorian Chant the first Christian music and chanted by monks in their monasteries. It’s a meditation on god and spiritually. If you find it boring I suggest you need to get in touch with your spirituality more. While the voices are chanting g why don’t you meditate on the earth and your place in it. Open your mind, don’t close it. It’s your loss, not Kate Bush’s.

Yeah this piece maybe has to grow on you, but as already said elsewhere, it is taken out of its context. As a songwriter you appreciate her skills. But it doesn't always come natural to her. This is what Kate said about the process of writing Hello Earth:
"'Hello Earth' was a very difficult track to write, as well, because it was... in some ways it was too big for me. [Laughs] And I ended up with this song that had two huge great holes in the choruses, where the drums stopped, and everything stopped, and people would say to me, "what's going to happen in these choruses," and I hadn't got a clue.
We had the whole song, it was all there, but these huge, great holes in the choruses. And I knew I wanted to put something in there, and I'd had this idea to put a vocal piece in there, that was like this traditional tune I'd heard used in the film Nosferatu. And really everything I came up with, it with was rubbish really compared to what this piece was saying. So we did some research to find out if it was possible to use it. And it was, so that's what we did, we re-recorded the piece and I kind of made up words that sounded like what I could hear was happening on the original. And suddenly there was these beautiful voices in these chorus that had just been like two black holes.
In some ways I thought of it as a lullaby for the Earth. And it was the idea of turning the whole thing upside down and looking at it from completely above. You know, that image of if you were lying in water at night and you were looking up at the sky all the time, I wonder if you wouldn't get the sense of as the stars were reflected in the water, you know, a sense of like, you could be looking up at water that's reflecting the stars from the sky that you're in. And the idea of them looking down at the earth and seeing these storms forming over America and moving around the globe, and they have this like huge fantasticly overseeing view of everything, everything is in total perspective. And way, way down there somewhere there's this little dot in the ocean that is them. (Richard Skinner, 'Classic Albums interview: Hounds Of Love. Radio 1 (UK), aired 26 January 1992)
The choral section, performed by the Richard Hickox Singers, is taken from a Georgian folk song called 'Zinzkaro' ('By The Spring'), which Kate heard performed by the Vocal Ensemble Gordela on the soundtrack of Werner Herzog's 1979 film Nosferatu The Vampyre. The lyric translates as:
'I was passing by the spring.
There I met a beautiful woman with a jug on her shoulder.
I spoke a word to her and she left, offended.
I was passing by the spring.'
