    PRODUCTS I USED:
    ~ 2mm Thick craft foam
    ~ Pink Insulation Foam (This also comes in blue at different hardware stores)
    ~ Stanley Exacto Knife (You will want replacement blades or a sharpener for this. Cutting foam quickly dulls the knife and insulation foam should always be cut with a sharp edge)
    ~ Hot glue
    ~ Sand paper (I usually work with 120 grit to 180)
    ~ Masking Tape
    ~ Sharpie
    ~ Worbla Finest Art (Thermoplastic)
    www.worbla.com/...
    ~ Black Spray Paint
    ~ Crystal Clear Spray Paint
    ~ Sugarpill Pigment: Lumi
    ~ Inglot AMC Pigment 112
    ~ Black and White Acrylic Paint
    ~ Rare Earth Magnets: Mine were 5lb strength
    www.leevalley.c...
    ~ D rings or belt rings (found at fabric store)
    ~ Elastic
    Safety Equipment:
    Respirator for spray paint and aerosols
    Dust mask + Safety Glasses for sanding

    Thank you so much for making this tutorial! I saved it for when I decided to make my horns for my Calianna (Critical Role) cosplay this year, and it helped immensely in working out how to build up the scales. One thing I'd add for fellow first-timers: Add a LOT MORE extra foam on the sides than what you are expecting to need. You can always remove it, like she says, but it looks a little tacky if you have to fill in any gaps (ESPECIALLY around the curves of your horns!)

    Started this project this week and so far have a 2 small sets of horns and 1 large set of horns. I have the patterns drawn out and tonight begins the fun on putting them on foam and then getting started cutting and gluing the foam down before I start my first ever project with worbla. Thanks so much for posting this. I do have the earth magnets too but think I will work these large horns into a aviator skull cap pattern I have. That was my ears can stick out for some air and the horns can be working into the aviator cap.

    @NsomniaksDream hey just letting you know, I did try cutting with a scroll saw and it worked like a dream. It only took me 5-10 minutes to cut my horns out. As long as one takes it slow and holds the foam firmly on the table. Clean up was a breeze as well. I thought there would be alot of dust from it like wood, but there wasn't. I hope this helps you for future projects.

    Okay so I haven't seen this comment yet so - if you use insulation foam, please be incredibly careful when sanding it. Wear a mask with a filter (they sell these at the hardware store too) so you don't breathe in the excess polystyrene fibers, as they're a health hazard and can be very dangerous. Once you seal your horns, they should be fine for wearing, but while making them, please please please exercise due caution. If you have questions about specific types of polystyrene, you can find their MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) online, and that answers how safe something is for use. Please be careful and stay safe.
    Lastly, thanks for the tutorial, it's really neat!

      You could use floral foam and paper mache? It would need a thicker layer of paper mache and glue on the bottom so the magnets don’t just rip right out. It’s not as expensive if you use coupons at the craft stores.

    • @IcestormTundra
      @IcestormTundra 5 лет назад +1

      I did a similar thing with a clay base, cling film, paper mache, spray paint and sealant, then mounted it on a headband with a hot glue gun. Came out at around £20 when all when done =)

  • @MissBanks612
    @MissBanks612 5 лет назад

    i realize this video is older so i may not get a response but ... is the head piece under the wig necessary? Wouldnt the magnets be able to stick to each other without it? Or is its purpose to keep them from shifting? If they are as strong as you say, would that even be an issue?

    • @NsomniaksDream
      @NsomniaksDream  5 лет назад

      The piece underneath is indeed for making them stay in place and taking the weight of the horns. The issue you might run into with not creating that piece is that you're putting all of the hold onto the wig, and since wigs have stretch to fit over the head, there's a good chance the horns will just sag or move. However, for a smaller set of horns you could probably get away without the structural piece underneath :)

    • @MissBanks612
      @MissBanks612 5 лет назад

      you answered!!!! thank you for your response. i understand what you mean about all the weight on the wig. I found 17lb magnets so i may experiment a bit. i dont have worbla so constructing the head piece isnt the easiest for me right now

    • @elliepapadimas944
      @elliepapadimas944 5 лет назад +1

      i am doing something really similar (also due to this video), also without worbla. I am using one of those wide stretchy headbands, i'm going to open it up and make the structure with two layers of craft foam and have the magnets in between. and then glue the whole thing back together. To make sure the headband doesn't move i'm going to get wig clips and sew them into the headband so it doesn't slide.

    Would casting horns in resin work or would that end up being too heavy?

    • @sweetsighs4u
      @sweetsighs4u 4 года назад

      Makes them far to heavy if their solid resin. If they're hollow their not strong enough to hold the magnets in the base. Difficult to cast unless you're an expert (IMHO).
