Finally, someone who came up with the idea of value for Dewalt instead of mere performance 👍👍

Thanks! I see way to much focus on just the power of impact drivers. Value, features and durability matter as well.

DCF809 definitely isn’t getting phased out since the ones being sold on Black Friday were only manufactured a few short months ago (August for mine). Seems they will keep making it alongside mid-torque and high-torque models specifically to sell as a value option or promo set.

Yup! I'm a new homeowner and n00b DIYer. So I just had to choose a system from scratch. My cousin has lots of tools on the Dewalt platform, so they made my list. I also considered Ryobi purely for the price. But the price comparison of Dewalt VS Ryobi is actually a lot closer when you add consideration for used markets and prior gen tools. I have no intention of driving giant lag bolts, and it's okay if it took a few more seconds to do so on a DIY project. So the 809 is absolutely enough driver for me, and I got it for $50 on eBay. I love the form factor of the 850, but it's not worth paying so much more.

Nice review bud - a fair approach to both models that are very different. Nice to see the DCF809 get a bit of positive coverage. Horses for courses.

Got the 809 today 20v brushless (just started working with my uncle in construction) I didn’t know the 850 was a thing and honestly I’m a lil pissed I didn’t see it
