S.Y. is obviously just "managing the cap" until the right group of players is ready. He has said multiple times that his only goal is to build this team to be great for many years,; not not just a short run. He has said so much if you just listen closely. In fact, he tells everyone exactly what he's doing. If you just listen, and quit projecting what you want him to do.
Sustained success requires elite talent from top 3 picks. Hard to find if you don't draft it. And really Larkin is a 2C on good teams
We get that SY manages the cap and does what he has to do but one of the best parts of this channel is projecting what might or could be.
@@scottritcey5166Larkin is def a 1c. Very underrated. Do I think he’s McDavid of course not. The biggest problem is there is no 2c on Detroit.
@@scottritcey5166 No it doesn't. Blues 2019 & Golden Knights 2023 are good examples. They had many really good players, but not a superstar like Matthews, McDavid, MacKinnon...etc. "Larkin is a 2C" look at other rosters and it's clear that Larkin is a 1C...Bruins, Predators, Jets, Capitals, Minnesota, Flyers, Islanders, Seattle, Utah would love to have a 1C like Larkin.
@@willsmithmachine5244Vegas and St Louis again. Those were exceptions. For the most part you need elite talent to win. TB, Pitt, Chicago, Colorado especially if you want sustained success(which today's NHL is not meant to do). Wings fans only justify the lack of superstar talent by mentioning Vegas and St Louis
I think one of the big reasons yzerman didn’t make a splash in this offseason was that some bad contracts either end this year or go on their final year the following year. Roster management was a problem this year. And that problem is more easily manageable next offseason without having to give up assets. Besides a lot of the big names out there got signed to really dumb contracts
Mazur is 6'1 185lbs now. He mentioned that on the winged wheel podcast on Sunday, in his interview with them

Danielson’s vision on both ends and in transition was really impressive to see last year after the trade. Could see him on the third line and second power play unit in 25/26. Was surprised Mike didn’t put him on the top line more in the playoffs.

I think 2025 will be a better year for young guys and proper roster management. This year we had husso and holl taking up space. It’s really hard to move those guys. I’m sure yzerman wanted to move them. But a team has to take them. And yzerman probably didn’t want to give up assets to get rid of them. Who knows what other teams asking price was.

Future 1C. That kid reminds me of a really young Sakic/Modano. 200 ft game, deceptively fast, head up, wicked/sneaky shot, always in the right place at the right time and lastly a young leader fit for captaincy.
Larkin can play 2C and cook the opposition. Fedorov was 1C and Yzerman was 2C.
This is possible due to age. By the time danielson hits his prime Larkin will be in his lower to mid 30s which will probably make him 2c. I’m not sure if danielson is elite enough for 1c. But it’s on the table. I think 2025 he will be bottom 6. 2026 and on 2c. And see from there.
I don’t understand why people keep sleeping on this kid. He will overprotect everyone’s expectations. I’ve said it since the draft. So will MBN. I’m actually more worried about ASP reaching his ceiling. I think ASP will be good, but I’m hoping he reaches his full potential.
I think if Danielson repeats the camp and pre-season he had last year it will be hard to send him to GR.
Danielson is 99% going to Grand Rapids. I don’t even know if being brought up is even possible out of preseason due to roster. Now post deadline I think there is more flexibility with roster. Maybe a call up?? Or a trade and call up.
If you saw him in those playoff games with GR last year you would understand that he is nowhere near NHL ready since he looked absolutley lost those games against AHL players

Talbot and Lyon maybe not outstanding but should be ok. Husso is wasted cap. From what I’ve heard cossa isn’t ready the save percentage is there at the ahl level but I’ve heard he still lacks some fundamentals. That being said. Even if he is ready this year Husso makes that transition nearly impossible. Just to bring him up Husso would need to be on ltir or be traded at the deadline. Since this is his final year on that bad contract. A deadline trade is more feasible. That would also give cossa some more ahl time to work on that fundemental issues he has.
