These are the sacred lectures. I watched your original breaking 100 video last year which helped me immensely. After this winter break I was back to my usual shenanigans hacking around deep into the triple digits, coming off my worst score ever last weekend. Looking for solace, I watched this video as a refresher a few days ago and vowed to stick to the script (big stick stayed in the bag, stuck to the clubs i know, stuck to the shots I know, NO HERO SHOTS,). Just like you said, when you break 100 you won't just break it you will smash it. I just got back from carding a 91!!! A NINETY-FREAKING-ONE!! My previous best being a 103 last year. I still can't believe it! Thank you! THANK YOU! Now that I'm a playa I have to treat myself to some of the merch!

I broke 100 for the first time ever and this guy has to take the most credit for it, even counting all the swing coaches I worked with.
I worked backwards and stopped aiming to be on the green in as few as possible. Instead, I played the percentage shots that would get me around the green as safely as possible.
I put away the wedges, took out the irons and played the bump and runs instead of lofty chips.
This is 100% the definitive guide to break 100. Subscribed!

This is hands down the best RUclips golf series. Played yesterday before I saw this vid and had the most frustrating 107 score sending drives in the trees hunting down balls and not enjoying the beautiful day. Today I used this system and shot 103 with 48 on the front and 55 on the back using only my 4 iron, 7 iron, PW, SW, and putter. Had an awesome day, finished with the same ball I started with, and easily could’ve been down to 95-100 if I didn’t have a a few blow up holes where I went off the system and ended up 4-5 strokes over the course Par. So excited to use this for the rest of the summer thank you for this vid im sharing this with ever golfer I know. I dont know why this doesn’t have 10m views I feel like I struck gold here. Finally broke 100 after 2 years of playing. Finished off with a 95 and was absolutely stoked. I played smart and didn’t try to muscle every shot. I also played the clubs I was confident with off the tee and in the fairway/rough…. My woods and hybrids were my best friend that day. This will be my fifth year, and when the season opens here in Ontario Canada I'm hitting off 15 handicap. Finally bought into this method after 18 months of playing golf. Hit several 100-102 rounds on unfamiliar courses, and then scored a 96 at my home course this past Sunday. Used driver twice on very safe holes. No iron above a 6 iron. The conservative method of playing golf has massively changed my mindset and I’m convinced and confident that a low 90s is possible this season.

Hey Matt, after spending the end of last year preparing my playing group mentally I've started my season this year with 6 clubs in the bag:
    - 5 wood (most solid tee club, avg 150-165)
    - 9 wood (basically just here for the days that 5 wood feels bad)
    - 5 iron (my consistent 140ish)
    - 7 iron (fill gap before wedges, overall fav club)
    - PW (duh)
    - SW (duh)
    - Putter
So far after 2 rounds I've scored totally the same as last year (average 65-70 for 9holes). Feeling great about the strategy and excited to improve over the season.
    Thanks for all the advice!

I've spent the last month and a half going to the range 3-4 times a week- really working on stuff with a purpose. I've made significant improvement with my swing consistency. I went out yesterday hoping to break 90 and shot 101, worse than I normally shot before. I'm so discouraged that I just feel like I'm wasting my time and want to give up. Your videos are giving me hope to keep trying. Thanks.
PS- I should add this: I was playing a good player who I asked to help me think about how to play the game. He was suggesting shots based on how my best shots go and what he would do. I went against what I felt comfortable with and did what he suggested several times. Each time was a mess. I also was so egotistical that I refused to listen to the advice that Matt gave on other videos. I was too cool for that. I thought I was on the verge of breaking 90. Now I'm eating some humble pie and watching this video on how to break 100. Humble pie doesn't taste good but I've hit bottom. I'm sick of scoring so poorly so I'm going to take a different approach. Matt, thanks in advance.

    • @GolfSidekick
      @GolfSidekick  2 месяца назад

      you are wasting your time.
drop the range for a while.
go pitch and putt for a bit and forget the swing and long shot. let your body settle a bit and absorb what youve been doing.
      then
go play golf 2-3 times a week - 9 or 18 holes if possible.
you will learn more about golf than hitting the range 3-4 times a week.
range sessions are 90% of the time just a scrape and hit session.
they add expectation but range and golf course is an entirely different sport.
golf course is about scoring. so use it to learn to score.
range is for lessons and for things you specifically work on from a coach. otherwise its just a scrape and hit whack a mole session

Playas. This is a god send. I’ve broken 100 before (a 94) but it felt like a career day and I was just hitting the best shots of my life. Since then, I got in a slump and felt like I couldn’t even touch the low 100’s. I get coached and even went through a swing change in desperation. The swing started to feel better, but I still couldn’t break 100 again and it was getting frustrating.
This change of mind set is EVERYTHING. I managed my ego, emotions and frustrations and I broke 100 again (a 97) in just 2 rounds. It didn’t even feel like a career day. I just stopped listening to my monkey brain and accepted my limitations. Stress free and I’m enjoying golf again. Thank you playa!

I've been following Golf Sidekick for about a year. I only get out to golf a dozen or so times a year due to family and work obligations. That said, I have been practicing putting and chipping at home 3-4 times a week and devoting 30 mins a day to full swing; not exactly the 2:1 ratio Matt suggests. But I've been working with a PGA Pro on specific full swing faults (Focus has been on grip, shaft lean, and right shoulder tilt, so thats why so much full-swing work.) Still, my ratio of practice has been at least 50/50.
All the hard work has paid off. I recently played a Par 35, 9-Hole course with my Wife and shot 40 (the course has 2 Par-3 holes and 1 Par-5 hole while the others are all Par-4's). My personal Par for this course was 49, so following Golf Sidekicks way of the playa works! I teed off with a 5-Iron all day. I averaged 156 yards off the tee with that club per my Shotscope H4 and even had one tee shot that traveled over 190 total yards. I set up my approach shots to 90 yards from the pin (an easy 54 degree distance for me), aimed at the fat part of every green, and although I only hit two GIR, on a few others I was on the fringe. I chose clubs that enabled me to avoid every bunker on the course. I made conventional pars on 3 holes and a conventional birdie on a Par-5 with a putt from off the green on my 4th shot. I only had one double bogey, on the 9th hole and it was one of two 3-putts on the day. I had two one putts, using the rule of 12 on chips got me to within 3 feet on both of the one putts. So, while this is a personal best for me, I have the potential to shoot even better!
If you think this method doesn't work - think again. Thanks Matt, you da man!!!!

So much awesome advice in this video! I watched this a year ago, but still had a lot of ego and wanted a quick fix. (Surprise, surprise, it didn’t work out). Coming back to this, I’m finally humbled enough to listen. Play to the course, not to the fantasy. Respect a proper mindset and approach. Next round, shot a 97 (even with a blowup hole where I got a 10), and I honestly had a lotttt of fun doing it.

Thanks for the content! I binged all of this and will binge again tonight. Just got done playing 27, mainly because the first 14 holes i tried to get cute and went away from this using my driver which one shot is bombed straight followed by the next 3-4 shanked or lost. And then i slowed it down, limited my clubs and if i only average the last 18 holes, I shot 104 with primarily my wedges and hybrid. Would’ve been lower if I would’ve kept driver in the bag and the other couple of clubs I started messing with, and stuck to the course management plan you talked about. Sooo, i say all that to say that your info is on point and I will definitely use this method FULLY the next time out! Cheers man!

Thanks Matt for your videos. Picked the game up 6 months ago, and have had a few lessons focussing mainly on irons and pitching wedge, and played a few rounds on a short par 3 most Sundays. Last weekend, i played a full 18 for the first time and shot 97 even though I can't use a driver for love nor money and my chipping and putting need a lot of work. A lot of this is following the course and round management stuff which Matt preaches...eg creating a new par for each hole, having my 150m club (7 iron), 100m club (gap wedge) etc. Next aim is to maintain this and push towards 90. Absolutely no reason why this can't be in the next few months. Cheers!

Played 9 using the system today. Didn’t break 50 but had way more fun than I have had in a while. Not frustrated, didn’t lose balls, didn’t spend a ton of time debating with myself on which club to use. The other great thing is I was able to really learn what I need to work on. 5 clubs might be my new standard.

    Trying to break 80?
Birdies aren’t the answer. Avoiding double bogeys. The top 1% of golfers only average 1.5 birdies but only have 1 double. The higher the handicap, the more doubles, not less birdies is the difference. PGA players average just slightly over par on the 3’s and 4’s but 4.6 on the 5’s. Hope this helps the more advanced golfers.

I don't play that often (once a month or once every two months); 2 weeks ago I hit a 108; I decided that what I was doing was not working so I started understanding the mindset that is shared in the Playa's Way and boy did it completely changed my game and I ended up hitting a 97... Thank you so much and please continue to share your Playa's Wisdom.

Hi Matt I love this course and appreciate the refresher. Definitely a ton of wisdom and things that can help. My one quibble is always two putting. Most of us can get on in 3. It’s getting on in 3 and 3 putting that kills our scores. It is really really difficult to not 3 putt when you are 40-60 feet out. It’s hard to practice. No 2 greens are the same. I have a putting mat and I’m ok inside of 5 feet but I thi k so many of us trying to break 100. Leave our 50 foot putt 8 feet away from the hole and 3 putt.

Thanks Playa, going for my first round in almost 15 years today and will be taking the way of the playa with me. Number one goal is to stick to the plan monkey man. I know I can hit my irons up to a 5 well - so no FOMO and no hero shots today.
Will report back how I get on, but if I can break 100, i'd be delighted - if not, i'll still be happy to be golfing and having fun again after so long.
Update: the round went great - had an amazing time - hit a 6 iron off every tee except the short Par 3s because it's my most confident club. Shanked one shot into the trees and it bounced off two right in the thick stuff. I laughed it off and punch out onto the fairway with an 8.
Managed a Par with a two putt on the Par 4 17th.
I ended with an 8 on the 18th for a 104 total. I'm pretty happy with it honestly. There were several mistakes I made that I could easily rectify next time.
A lot of strokes to be shaved.
