Broke a 100 for the first time with a 99 several weeks back after watching Matt’s how to break a 100 series.
    Since then, four more 99’s.
The foursome I now play with several times a week actually commented after my third shot on a long Par 4. Instead of going for the green, I picked an Iron that I absolutely knew would not reach the two bunkers on either side of the front of the green even with the best possible contact. Left the ball 5 feet from the right front bunker. Low loft chipped with my 9 iron about 18 feet up to about 3 1/5 feet from the hole (lucky shot for me). And sank the putt for a Bogey.
Nobody else played the hole that way. They all went for the green in 3. Two in bunkers, and one off the back of the green.
They thought I was crazy for not going for the green.
But I took my Bogey like a Baus !
The way of the Playa is for real Gents
It ain’t fancy, but it works

I made it ❤today ! 86 🎉…I am a 20,6 HCP lady golfer ! An this is because of YOU !!! I listended to the Audiobook for Putting as recommended and I only focused on putting and GIOTG 😊! I practiced the wedges as recommended and hit only my Hybrid from tees where my ball could go into the Scheisse … I was in 4 bunkers and got it out on the green each time . Just one hole I hit a triple due to some Brainworms but I Recovered on the next hole. I am so thankful for these videos they really help and I believed that I could do it!

I know maybe one person might see my comment so to that one person, thank you. I just broke 90 for the first time in my life last weekend. Shot an 86 and I didn’t even realize it until I added it all up at the end. No gimmies. Only had to take one drop. That’s ONE lost ball. All I’ve been doing is playing every weekend. 36 a day, 9 when I can, 18 if possible. It’s hard to improve with a full time job that has no defined hours. But I would like for golf to be more than just a hobby for me one day. And breaking 90 without even trying was just a major confidence boost.

I started playing golf seriously this summer and made it my goal to break 100 before the end of the summer. I watched this video last week and put the safe, logical strategy into my game for every hole on Friday and couldn’t hit the ball to save my life. 104. Today I played a round with my brother and not only broke 100, I broke 90!!! I shot an 89 putting these tips into practice and taking conservative swings that were more consistent for me. It really does take the discipline to stick to a smart strategy for 18 holes without going for the glory shot. I missed a lot of greens short, took a lot of ugly bump and run chips that put me on the green, and only lost one ball to a goofy shank on a 50 yard chip. This guy’s lessons are legit and made an impact on my mental game, and now made an impact on my scorecard.

I'm a single digit handicap working to consistently stay in the 70's and I've loved watching your break 100 and break 90 series to really keep my mental game in check. While you improve your ego can get the better of you as you expect more from yourself on the course chasing low scores.
Course management got me from a 12 down to a 9hcp in one summer by itself (along with some dreaded putting practice). These ideas can be applied to golfers at ALL skill levels, just adjust the yardages and risk tolerance for your game.

Tried your approach today & shot 83 from the senior tees (5,100 yards). I hit driver on all the 4s&5s as I can generally hit it straight , but not far. Only knocked down 1. Had very playable 2nd shots all the way around. Averaged 180. I took an extra club on my approach shots & made about an 80% swing. Hit a lot of greens! Made 2 birdies 4 pars 11 bogeys & only 1 double. Playing the senior tees & making 3/4 swings into greens led to the most stress-free round I’ve had in years. Need to find a club I can hit 155-160 off the fairway. I flubbed 3 shots like that or I could have made a run at 80! Can’t wait to try this again! I’m 65 & a 20 GHIN. When I posted my score I learned I beat my course handicap by 2 shots! Thanks for the tips!

Shot 104 my first time playing, 102 the second, then had a terrible day at 114 but then redeemed myself the next day (today) with an 87!!!! I did get fitted for clubs this morning before playing so was hitting on a sim for an hour right before tee time... that definitely helped!!! I still used rental clubs, the fitting was so I can start shopping... but was the first time hitting on a simulatior..simulation... I have watched all these videos of yours and try to apply the concepts. I even used the exaft same golf ball for all 18 hooes, didnt lose a single one!
Other stuff i did different today
    - used 3 wood or hybrid instead of driver when driver was an option
    - used PW instead of SW on some chips for better roll out on greens/approach
    - though more about ranging my shots (mostly because I learned a lot about my ranges in the sim)
I need a rangefinder now! I'm just wildly guessing ranges....

The Baus brings out top quality content on a consistent and frequent basis. As Garry Playa says 'Release content to get garden hose'
The Baus has a FANTASTIC attitude to golf for c. 90 players.
    1. Enjoy the game.
    2. Don't put pressure on yourself.
    3. Add 1 stroke to each hole for 'par'.
    4. Practice sensible coursw management.
    5. Practice short game particularly chipping and putting.
    6. Know YOUR distances.
    7. Be a playa!

I watched your video probably a month ago and since Ive been playing very consistent. I actually got the red tiger range finder as well and I love it. This past month I’ve broke 90 3 times 86 87 and 81 today. My previous lowest round was 85 last summer. Ive been playing a little over 2 years and practice a few times a week by hitting irons in my net in the backyard. All these tips have helped me greatly man thank you!

  • @Capo51
    @Capo51 5 месяцев назад +9

'Strike is correlated to score, distance is not correlated to score'. Brilliant statement. 👏. That's why I m changing my play strategy towards the one presented here. 🙏.
It means in narrower fairways I will hit less with the driver. I trust my 7 wood much more, and distance from tii are long enough.
I have also dropped 3 wood now on my club selection. Sometimes can use it on broad fairways on par 5, if the lie is good.
My iron game is pretty solid, so in order to play under 90, that has to be very solid. Of course putting solves the ultimate score.
If too many 3 puts, then hard to get under 90.

@GolfSidekick I did this a couple of times recently. A playing partner was asking me why I wasn't "going for it" and shooting at the green. I explained to him - and myself - talking through my tactic about not being confident in getting onto the green with wind into and pushing towards the guarding bunker. So I played deliberately to a position about 20 yards short, no danger of going on the bunker. Easy, no pressure shot, and it went straight (maybe because more relaxed and in control), so I then had a nice little dink up the green and I drained the resulting 5 foot putt for par. Schweet!

I’m right there with you… My typical score is a 91 or 92… Sometimes 99 I’ve broken 90 a few times but it’s just some thing about that 89 number that is so elusive. I thought I did the other day but double bogies to finish put me at 91. The one piece of advice that I question and I’m curious to know what other people do is do you count your score as you go so that when you’re finishing up you know if you need a birdie or a par or if you should play it safe or be aggressive…

I can't stress enough the "toe down chipping". I'm 49 yrs old and currently a 4.2 handicap. At my peak around age 35 I was a +1. I've been using that chipping style since the mid 1990s. Learned it watching my favorite PGA pro. Some guy named Payne Stewart. Older people on here might remember him.
You can even use it for longer shots if, for instance, you're 70 yds out but have a tree in front of you where the only options are punch out back in the fairway or go under the branches of the tree meaning you have to keep the shot low. Use a 6 iron and hit a toe down chip treating it like a 200 ft putt. Takes some practice but I get out of a lot of jams that way.

Picked up that rangefinder. On sale for 83 bucks. I really appreciate your philosophy because the mental game is just as important as hitting it well. I just got done with a 102 and was frustrated why I wasn't hitting my driver straight. But as I calmed down afterwards, I started to think about how I was swinging and I realized that I was twisting too early causing the ball to clip off the right edge of the head. I will work on that swing more at the driving range. I think the biggest hurdle for me is to getting into the right rhythm after switching clubs.

Matty Boom Boom, love your content thank you! I've been playing golf for a couple of years and consistently stuck in the high 90's and low 100's. Your videos helped me reprogram my monkey brain and play smarter! I shot an 87 for the first time this past weekend! I'm completely stoked and am ready to go even lower! Keep the videos coming!

MattyBoombaddy, thank you so much! I've finally [almost] broke 90!! I shot a 90 on Father's Day at my local golf course: Highfields Golf Course in Grafton MA, it's a nice track.
I used wisdom and made it a Par 90, took the pressure off, it was amazing. Thank you for being the entertaining instructor and making it fun to learn to play better golf.
Also, your words are applicable to life, not just golf! 🙌
    Youdabombdiggity, no doubt.

Matty!! I have been on a slide for the past few rounds: 95,98,99,100. Today I shot a 90 with 7 pars from the 6400 yd tees following the way of the playa. If I eliminate 3 putts, double chips, and one stupid penalty that led to a quad bogey. I am at an 84. WHAT A LIFE

I really like our Break 90 videos. Still for a crappy golfer like me, stuck between 23 and 26 since for years now it kind of remains theory when its shown by the best youtube golfer on earth. Would love to see you doing this with someone struggling like me. The way you did with B-Dog those days. Who is kind of missing by the way.

Matty mentions swinging easy. For the longest time I could hit mostly excellent shots but could not swing easy. I'd be in between clubs and try to club up and swing soft and then get a miss hit trying to play safe... but that was like 1 out of 100 swings and I never practiced it. I hurt my back and started swinging easy and it only took like a month to start working. 100% recommend everyone give it a real try. Just swing easy and play safe for a while, it was an eye opener for me and fkn fun practice. Not caring about score, just stress free playing out of the fairway, drinking brewskis

Love these videos. Broke 100 for the first time a couple weeks ago. Your videos inspired me to play more boring golf. I’ve been taking my easiest to hit clubs on the tighter holes and it has literally the same result as when I smash a driver 125 yards further into the rough or woods (which would be a good hit).

      @GolfSidekick  5 месяцев назад +1

      Excellent playa
You will surely find that when you get better, you will hit less off line left and right and can use longer clubs.
But to break 100, you really just need a ball in play!
It's an easy game, and you figured it out !

One of the biggest mental improvements for me is the “accepting” some holes you won’t score well. 210 yard par 3, my long irons have been super suspect lately. But I just take my 6 iron, which is super reliable, hit it short, chip on 2 putt or maybe even get a lucky up and down and keep it moving. Rather than hooking it oob and then I drop and then Im looking to up and down for a boogie? Most likely end up with a double. Nope. Just concede the hole and score where you can.

Good practical advice, as hitting big drives is only half the battle, you also have to putt well, hit decent approach shots, no hero shots in my view, no I really have to smash this shot, thoughts. All calm, and equanimity of mind. I often over club close to the green that way I think I've got plenty to hit the green with just take a bit off. :pw stress, try not to worry or notice things that might annoy you.
I've been in a slump with driver for 2 years, came out of it, then went back to 1 out of 3 drives mediocre, and confidentially it's true that 3 wood is little help, though I hit it great in the fairway, maybe I have tee anxiety. Then I went to 3 Hybrid off the tee, 200 yards. Then back to the driving range and driver is coming around again. Easy drives of 230 or so, and in the middle, no thoughts of crushing driver.
Analysis: 31:46 After the 2nd shot to the 15th, how relaxed, facing the target the player is. Post swing his body is in the same relative relaxed position, as his arms swing back and forth as he watches the shot. Compare that to what you look like after a shot, notice any difference?
