Hi everyone thank you for watching the video of my Tamiya Matilda MkII. I apologise if the music level is too loud, it wasn't like that in the edit, but at least you can turn it down if you want! - I'm still getting used to the voice over editing 😅 (and I like to cater for the hard of hearing 😉) But I hope you can still enjoy the video and commentary regardless. Also there are subtitles on this video showing the tools & equipment I used so make sure you select the "CC Closes Captions" to see those. Many thanks The Inner Nerd
Nicely done. I appreciate the restrained but realistic weathering effects. It allows us to enjoy the details of the model as well as your paint/camo scheme.
Brilliant job.....beautifully painted and weathered. I really enjoyed your commentary as well. A well worth 35:45 minutes watch (nothing nerdy about your work!!). I have this model to build so thanks for the inspiration and the impetus to start. Congrats once again. 👏🏻
The painting of your models is everything. The layers add dimension and make a plastic model kit look like someone took the real tank and shrunk it down.
Every other model is like it had been in service for decades. Not yours. Yours looks like it had been in a few missions. So realistic and great looking.
Wow!!this video just improved your channel by a thousand!! I especially liked the voice over. It was super helpful to get some context to what you were doing or why. Also, I liked the tip of writing the number on similar parts that you’ve already cut from the sprue. This was great!! More of this type of video please!
Just watched one of your old videos and subscribed, juste now watched this recent video of yours and was delighted to hear you narrate and you do so very well, love the music also, thoroughly enjoyable to relax too and watch.
Thank you. And yes no detail out of the box but I did try and scratch build some to little success. The turret does come off though and the false floor can aloways be removed... Future video maybe?...
Nice kit.Id like to add the cromwell turret to it,and a 6lb gun,and build the Black prince prototype.Lovely work as usual, colours and camo look perfect.
great Kit! awesome job. Did this same kit in the counter scheme. there is so much to do on this model testing many skills with a Tamiya kit. You could do a few of these easy. Thanks for the great video
Excellent build Sir. I have been looking at building this kit myself and after seeing your build it has inspired me to do so as well. By the way i like the music played in the video who is the artist and name of the music. Superb.
I'm a new subscriber because I'm awed by your skill at painting & weathering these models. Have you, by chance, done this to any tank models that were also detailed on the interior too? I'm interested in what you'd do (or did) for painting & weathering the interiors in those cases.
Hello and welcome to the channel :) I haven't done a full interior model tank before but the weathering process would be the same in terms of the washes and oils etc. The colours would be different to mimic the oils and greases found inside vs the mud and water effects you see outside. Pigments would also be useful to show dirt brought in by the crew around the footwells. A very brief overview but hope it helps somewhat. I shall make an interior model sometime since I have the urge to build a Tiger some day so will pick one with interior too. Thanks for watching :)
An excellent result. I love the battle damage, but scraping down the edges of the armour plate? It takes much more than the crew's boots to wear that away!
@@TheInnerNerd So that's battle damage too? Fair enough. From your commentary it seemed to me you were implying crew activities caused it. That plate was 80mm thick! I'm about to start on my own 1/35 Matilda - you've inspired me to get it out of the stash... :-)
Great work on the Matilda, really like your whole build, paint and weathering process. Just about finished my own build of a Matilda and would like to know how you finished off the spotlight on the side of the turret. Did you use the molotow pen for the lens like you did for the small mirror or did you use silver paint? Can't quite make it out in the finished article. Many thanks and keep up the excellent builds.
Thank you and I hope that your happy with your build! Yes you assume correctly. I used the Molotov pen again for this to get the full chrome effect. Thanks for watching!
Nice build. Thanks also for showing how you built exhaust. Most other presenters skipped that part. Question: what did you use for base paint? So before the weathering what was the color of exhaust pipes and muffler? Thanks in advance.
Thank you. I don't actually know and having just re-watched the video I'm no clearer myself haha. It looks like I based it in a light sand/beige colour before I applied the AK Worn Effects and then further paint layers. I hope this helps and thanks for watching :)
Great video. I have this kit built and ready for painting. My problem is: I dont know how to get that tiny paint stream from my airbrush for mottling. I have tried to reduce the paint, turn down the pressure and change airbrushes, but I cant seem to find the answer. Any help?
Thank you. It's hard to explain in words but if you watch these two video here they might help show it better. ruclips.net/video/W3zDmJwpPcY/видео.html ruclips.net/video/ex7a8mcAy9Q/видео.html
Yes I'll be sure to include that in my future videos if you'd prefer that. I do include subtitles too which can be activated using the "CC" button which explain each product I am using

Hello, I only subscribed to your channel days ago after one of your vids popped up as a referral. Must say I love your work. Can you tell me which airbrush(es) you use? Cheers and please keep up the great work!
Hello and thank you for the follow! Thank you for watching and I hope you enjoy my other videos too. I use 2 brushes. My main airbrush for colour and detail work is Harder & Steenbeck Evolution Silverline with a 0.2mm nozzle. I also use a Sealey AB9321 which I use soley for priming Mr Surfacer with. I use the 2 so that the lacquer primer doesn't contaminate and conjeal the acrylics I send down my H&S. If you've got any more questions just let me know.
Thank you. This video has closed captions which list all of the paits I used for the build. In my more recent videos they are embedded at the bottom of the screen also. Thanks for watching :)
nice techniques, nice finish. music / voice mix is messed up but you know that. given you are quite talented, I have 2 suggestions: 1 take a look at MRP paint - it's a lacquer and will blow your mind compared to tamiya (and pretty much everything else); 2 check out Scale Modeller Critique Group on Facebook - some super talented guys on there, multi genre / multi scale, but it's all about getting better. Best, Nick.
njmayhew I only use lacquer now. Mainly Hataka or Tamiya LP. It goes down superb👍 I’ll give the MRP a try. Mind you, Tamiya acrylic with Mr Hobby levelling thinners is almost as good. Cheers🍺🍺🍺🍺👍
I found out that the smoke launchers are actually cut down lee Enfield rifles with a push bike cable attached to the trigger! Gotta love British engineering👍
I'm using white spirit but turpentine should work also as well as enamel thinner. I think I mention or at least subtitle what I'm using on each part if you hit the closed captions button ☺
Tilly is my girlfriend and she spotted this in a model shop and wanted me to make it for names sake. Turns out to be the most fun build I've ever completed
Thanks. Looking at the reference photos I used though don't show any weld seams that weren't already molded in the kit, so no need to add any more that didn't exist. Also you must have missed my entire chipping section which starts at 23:27 and lasts about 5 minutes...
What welding? It’s a Matilda II. Go and look at a real one. The turret was basically one big casting, the main hull two big castings with a join that’s invisible from outside the tank and pretty much everything else was either flush-riveted together, or, if it needed to be removable, bolted on. There were some spot-welds on things like the rear fuel tank’s brackets and equipment boxes but they’d be invisible at this scale. As would most welds of any kind., but I’ll spare you my griping about out-of-scale welds and rivets.
Yes! It was finally time to start narrating! Makes it much easier to explain what I'm doing rather than make you read and try to watch at the same time

Absolutely agree with you. Weathering is spot on.
Yea. Needs way more rust👺
Great work! You got to love Tamiya for it parts fit wish all model makers had this level of fit.
Thank you and thanks for watching :) Tamiya are way up there with the best. I'm currently working on thier P-38 and it's honestly amazing

Well done. You did a Great Job. I like your weathering technique.👍 Greetings Ben
SUPERB weathering!
Superb build, one of your best to date.
Best from NZ.
