Thank You for sharing this Mass, Fr Mike. I am a Police Officer in Louisiana and work 12 hour rotations of midnight shift. This is very helpful for practicing Catholics to receive the holy mass and god’s word even though I can’t attend in-person mass. I pray for your continued success and for the upcoming church being built in deluth. Additionally, please pray for all law enforcement officers across the nation that they are safe in the battles against evil. I also pray for those in the Devil’s grasp, that they find Jesus and salvation. Amen 🙏

In regards to the homily, while my dad was alive, I was the biggest optimist. He lived until he was 91; owned a grocery story, gave many jobs to the kids in this part of a horrible neighborhood. At 50, due to race riots in the 70’s, the city took eminent domain of his building. The neighborhood was a food desert & he wanted to stay. But took everything he could out of the store and although I was young, I never was scared bc my parents never showed this to me. So many rosaries were said, he found a building & started to build a different store. He made fruit baskets (believe me, not like the ones you see in the grocery store). He was in business over 50 years with the help of my mom & of course the free help of us kids! lol
But anytime I would go to my dad w issues, he would give me the optimistic point of view. “You can’t do I, why not?”
So having him in my life for 55 yrs gave me hope, determination, (I worked as an engineer in tv; owned my own business; then went back to television in 2001) and love. When he heard my hourly wage, he’d say oh bless you! Actually many people were making so much more but he made me & taught me to be thankful. I hand make ornaments, & have for over 30+ years - everytime he or my mom would see what I was working on…. “Oh that’s BEAUTIFUL!” - he couldn’t see! His eyes were going but he’d still say how beautiful it was. It became a joke between my mom & myself. “Oh how BEAUTIFUL!”
Both my parents have passed, & you really don’t realize how much all the optimism he had, we it was w me for a while; but most people around me are pessimistic & are around me bc of my optimism, which I kinda no longer have since my source is no longer physically here for me. I know that your homily will be wonderful as always, but just your debating on being optimistic or pessimistic had me in tears bc I realized where the physical source of my optimism, who filled my cup when I was low was my own father. And I’m slipping into pessimism because of those family members around me. I’ll be praying on this. Thank you 🙏🏻
I too had a father who was always optimistic, worked very hard and took care of others. A true story about him that became a family legend. He was going to work one morning and saw he had a flat tire. He changed the tire then came back in to wash before once again leaving for work. My mom said I’m sorry about the flat, he smiled and said it’s all good. My mom and I looked at him perplexed. He said I might have been running late and it could have been raining, changing a tire would then have been a chore, but today I was leaving early and the sun is shining. My mom and I smiled, that was my dad.
Many years later my dad had passed and a few years later my mom. My aunt I drove to my parents house to go through their things, getting the house ready to sell. Then a few hours in to the 1,000 mile drive back home, we got a flat. My elderly aunt said a few choice words, and I said it’s ok. The sun is shining and the day is still young. She responded, you are truly your fathers son.
Whether our loved one are with us or not, they will always be with us in our heart, soul and their inspiration should continue within us.
Your dad’s thoughts, teachings, and love are still alive within you. God Bless.

An important message about Optimistic Realism- Being surprised when things go right. Important references of Victor Frankl, Jim Collins and Jim Stockdale - all about how one needs to face the reality and not just be optimistic. St. Paul was right about the importance of knowing God and the reality about salvation because people still deny that everyone born on Earth is under the dominion of Satan and thus, Baptism brings us under the protection of God. Hope is the trust in another and even when things don't go well. If God is with us, who can be against us? We can do everything in our might and still lose but if we do everything and also trust in God then we can keep going and know that we can have a good afterlife even if we don't know the ending of our life on Earth. "Why would I take the risk if I don't know how it's going to end?" Because it's worth it, and that's how Love goes. I will try to remember to be more optimistic about the trying, Father Mike. Thank you for this. I was going to attend mass physically this evening, but wasn't able to. I was diagnosed with endometriosis in 2023 and some days are not easy. I've been hearing the words " keep going ". I can honestly tell you that being optimistic is contradictory in my position, but being hopeful is all I have. I'm learning that the reality is life is not easy, and I have to " keep going ".
It's like sipping from a fine wine today .I cherish every drop.

Abba, I LOVE YOU ABOVE ALL THINGS. THANK YOU FOR WAKING ME UP AND SAVING ME. Thank you for my 2 son's, they are TRUE MIRACLES FROM YOU. I was told all my life I could not have children. And you saved me when I was at the lowest part of my life and blessed me you with my firstborn son. Then later in life when times were good you gave me another son!!! I prayed when I was told I could not have any more children. I couldn't get pregnant at all.... I prayed Lord and you graced me... You are so good. So mighty and true.... Thank you Lord for your sacrifice and for loving me just as I am.... A SINNER.... I just choose not to sin no more.....

The book's thesis grounds the message in your homily: we should be grateful for all things good and bad, because all is by God's will, either primarily or secondarily; our will should be in uniformity with God's will.

This is so beautiful & timely for me. I am in a situation that is very difficult. I have really tried to help someone, but it doesn't seem it's going to work out, at least as I think it should. Sometimes, you have to admit that your best effort is not enough for someone else to make changes. I know that God wants me to make the effort & that's what pleases him.Thanks for helping me to understand this.
