It's amazing how much subtle detail and foreshadowing this movie has due to Fincher's skill level. At least three times in the film the audience is shown David is a man who will make an emotional decision vs rational. If you view the narrative as seeing through either Summeret's worldview vs Mills' worldview it's a far more morally challenging movie than it's given credit for. Summerset, is good heart but brokern heart, representing all the people who no right and wrong but do little to nothing about it. Mills' somewhat of an idealist, makes emotional decisions. His worldview represents the wrong way to approach society's ills. In a morbid way it's Mills' lack of emotional maturity that causes this ending, narratively his character represents telling the audience this isn't the answer. Summerset first points this out when Mill's rushes off "the photograper" we later learn is the killer. The scene where Mills finds the developing photos even ends with the line "We almost had him". Second, Mill's makes an emotional decison to kick in the door, which causes John Doe to change his plan. This is also mentioned in the dialog during the phone call. Even requesting a transfer and moving to said town idealistically assuming he'd make a difference was an emotional decison. He is quesions often throughout the film for it by Summerset. I think ultimately the film is asking "why?" in a big way to make each person watching it so they make it a personal question the same way John Doe's crimes make you ask questions about society, made evident in the car scene heading to the field. It's a deep, deep movie.

He is obviously in shock, he would not have believed any lies. He literally shoots the guy without any proof his wife is dead, Somerset never tells him what’s in the box. He assumes based on the confession the known murderer is giving him
@@tugboat6940 If Somerset lied to him he would find out the truth shortly after and because of his temperament may impulsively kill Somerset or a random innocent person. His character arc symbolizes the seventh deadly sin-- wrath.
"Oh David those were amway products" *nervous laugh* John Doe "Detective Somerset, do you really consider it prudent to lie to your partner, the man whose supposed to trust you with his life? Why don't you walk over there and see for yourself, Detective Mills?"
That was one helluva ending!
If you really think about it, why would Tracy be hiding a pregnancy from Mills and only trusted Somerset? My personal guess is that he'd likely handle the pregnancy information about as well as the murder. After all, why else was he deliberately chosen by John Doe as "wrath"?
What's in the Box? What's in the Boxxxx??!!!
🏜😵👱🏻♀️📦🕵🏾♂️😳 🥺👨🏼💼🙇🏻😌🏜
Theres not a jury in the world that would find him guilty.
Who says he gets a jury trial?
buuulllshhiiit..
You'd be surprised at how stupid a jury can be in the hands of a good lawyer.
@@S_047 Because anyone facing felony charges in New York and many other states are entitled to jury trial if they find themselves not guilty. And in a case like this, no way would a cop accused of excuting a confessed serial killer that just beheaded his pregnant wife would waive his right to a jury trial.
great scene, but there's one thing that seems a bit unrealistic to me; the fact that Mills pulls the trigger without even checking the box..I mean, I probably would have run to see it
I guess Morgan freeman would lie bout that lol
I think that's what makes him the candidate for wrath. He is particularly reactive, something John Doe would have noticed in the chase scene at his apartment.
*Gweneth's candle is in there*
In my recollection- John Doe did not mention his wife. Is this an alternate ending?!

Go a head,it’s BANANAS!Ull love it
@3:12 "WHUTZINDABAAAHHHX!?"
And just thinking Spacey is likely that creepy af IRL!
Why is this so funny to me.
I swear that the first time i saw the movie, i saw Tracy head or it was my imagination? Mandela Effect?
Heartbreaking..
I ain't that cool 😎 once 😢no second, I shots
Great scene but that "heavy dramatic music" kinda ruins the moment.
Imagine how better and more suspensful this scene would be without music.
Brad Pitt would get bored and start scrolling around on Instagram
@@thehammurabichode7994 the music doesn't play on set anyways it's edited in post production. So either way Brad doesn't get to hear it.
Wrong
Wait a minute! Did i just watch the ending to the.....
That wasn’t the head that Spacey meant
allternative ending: david go run to the box, after saw what inside of it, he crying with all his emotions, and then kill himself with the gun.
for me, that should be the ending, 'cz the last sins (wrath) not fulfill the list. he must be dead tho. but still, this movie is a masterpiece.
"Full scene," yeah? 🤨
i'm here from himym
Whats going on over there?
Praise God
Gwyneth's head in a box - what's not to love?
just clip it just before actual climax. fucknig jesus. i gotta go watch another video for the actual end now.

Legally speaking, what would David Mills get for this? Probably discharged from the police, but would he also serve time?
Yup, tho i imagine he could get a reduced sentence since he we was absolutely not sound of mind at that moment and had aggravating circumstances
god i love weezer
Alternate Ending Parody on my channel called "White Elephant". Come check it out!
What does it mean when he say “she made her a suspect”? I don't quite understand the meaning of it. Sorry, english is not my first language.
Actually he's starting to say "If you murder a suspect..." and then gets cut off
well... what's in the box? 🤷
paul lombardis tea
eggs over easy for lee
hongmeizhous green pea
damn
It is a very entertaining film. It is suspenseful but it's insulting.
Use your imagination
I have killed 6 persons. I'm your enemy. You received a box from the post office with my name on it.
Will you open the box or would you call a bomb disposal team?
Here's another thing.
The post office or delivery courier will reject your Sealed BOX if the address of the receiver is "OUT there in the wide open space with NO house NO vehicles just electric towers " WHY? your box might contains a terroristic mini atomic bomb that would destroy those towers. Do you think that post office personnel will not call the police to have you arrested?
you think too much
After you have watched to many rv remodel videos!!!!! Lol
What's in the bbbbbooooxxxxx????? Lol
