It's so interesting that the world machine is the one telling us to let Niko leave. It perfectly encapsulates the world machine's (the entity's) anxiety.
This song has a different interpretation if you're a writer or trying to write your own story. "They're living, breathing, not a slave to a broken machine." can be interpreted as how one has to treat their characters as actual people and figure out what they'd do or say in reaction to things. "You only got the one shot." can be seen as the fact that you've got one shot to show everyone the world you've created. One of my main stories is even Oneshot-esc in that the world canonically takes place inside my own head, and the characters end up having an existential crisis over this. I even at one point have the world reset after a travesty so that they can live on in their own world happily, continuing the story after everyone dies. The message my representation gives to my characters is that even though they are not real in my world, that does not make them any less real. They are still real in their own world.

Be it creating it or consuming it, often times we find ourselves treating characters and environments as more than just drawings or words (consciously or otherwise). 2:56 This point keeps almost making me cry. The added instrumentals just sound so beautiful and really encapsulate the overall feeling I get from the story of OneShot, like an epic story that feels like it has been going on forever finally ending and the characters reminiscing before they say their final goodbyes.. Both OneShot and this song are masterpieces and I'm glad I got to experience them, but it still makes me almost cry. I think that emotion is actually what makes it a masterpiece, making you care about characters and a world that don't actually exist.

OH MY GOODNESS I WAS JUST THINKING ABOUT A ONESHOT SONG. THANK YOU Also highly recommend for the 4th wall breaker lovers ;) Oneshot is a pretty cool game and my heart is still all over it
@@bitfits2423Pretty much, it basically just doesn't have one. Also, you may be interested to know that if the following conditions were met, oneshot would be a fairly realistic story. 1:AI capable of true sentience exists 2:It is possible for a person from the real world(although perhaps not ours, maybe another) to become trapped in the digital one. 3:The code for the simulation somehow got to us from the "old world". That's it. That is about all that would be needed for oneshot to be a completely believable story. There are very few fictional stories that are this close to being real, and I think this is what makes it so fun.
I’m extremely happy to see this game receive more love and attention from the fan base despite how underrated or unseen this game. I’m just glad nobody has forgotten this game and that it’s still receiving some attention and love from a bunch of fans. What I said probably was and I think sounded repetitive but im just trying to say im really happy that you made a song on this game and that people still remember it and love it for the experience you get from the first time playing. Thank you for making this wonderful song!
I really hope that the new console release will give OneShot the attention it deserves, it's such a hidden gem. @@Ransa31there is a free version on rpgmaker (it’s also the original version before the Steam release, I hope you’ve already played it after 10 months lol)
As much as I love the idea of a console release, I personally believe that messes up the meta nature of the game. I have played both DDLC(another very meta game) and DDLC+(the console edition), and although they added a virtual desktop to simulate these meta experiences, it really didn't compare to the original. I would absolutely love it if console devs would add the ability to do stuff like that with console games, but right now they are not able to.
this is awesome! im glad more and more people realize oneshot exists, its incredibly underrated. to the people who are listening to this song and havent played the game yet, PLAY THE GAME ITS MORE THAN WORTH IT!
Niko did not fail to sieze this tired soul's heart of stone It nearly broke me to send her home People might say, "It's just a game." But none of us will ever be the same. -An Ode to Oneshot Thank you for the song!
Wow, this song is great, def going in my playlist. It reminds me of my times playing one shot, and feels completely like a heart-felt love letter to the game. I love it so much!
I like to think that this is a song that Niko and the “Broken Machine” make together (with Neko singing and the Machine adding the beat) for the player as a thank you! Very wholesome🥹!
I also like to think that Niko sings the verses while TWM (The World Machine) sings the chorus. While Niko sings about they adventure with us and their burden to bring the salvation to that world, TWM sings directly to us, trying it's best to make us save Niko. And as a fellow fan said in the comment section of this song, Niko's verse change, they're alive and experiencing a whole new universe. While TWM repeats the same lines over and over again, following it's "code", doing everything it can to make us save Niko. "They're living, breathing, not a slave to a broken machine." "A heart that's beating can't belong to a broken machine." But as an alternative theory, this song could have been done all by Niko. They never forgot that world and neither us, the player, so years later and with new technology of their world, they made a song as a way to let the memory of that adventure long ago still live on. Fun fact! This song is sung by an AI. Everything comes full circle huh?
I love that you can absolutely tell that this was made by somoene who actually played through the game instead of just being some superficial information about the game
Replying to this. Finally got a hold of Oneshot to play for myself. I knew it was going to end rough but I had forgotten the details. Jeez. Adore the game.
Beautiful. Absolutely marvelous! It's got this combination of slightly upbeat but also dour tones which OneShot revolves around so well. Please if anyone's not played this game I HIGHLY encourage you to do so and go in with as few spoilers as possible!
I love this song as much as I love the game, and as someone who's bought it on every console I own, played it through at least 7 times on each and 100% every variant that is a hell of a lot
I finished the game last week and I'm so glad that there are still people who care about the game all this time later after it's release. This song is such a bop.
Still listening regularly after 3 months. Also, this is an AI singing!?! It sounds so real! I get vocaloids are suppose to sound slightly robotic but I'd like hyper realistic vocaloids like this to be more common.

Ohhh my gosh I've been wishing for a fan song for this game, and I thought it would never happen, but here it is! I think you did an amazing job on the lyrics, the video, everything! Hopefully this video brings a bit more attention to this underrated game!
I love how well this fits OneShot. My favorite part about this is the use of a robotic voice for the computer singing parts! Nice to see OneShot content exists because I'm starving for more after beating Solstice
There’s a movie sorta like that, I think it’s called “Guy” and some NPC becomes half sentient and takes control of his game or something (can’t really explain the plot well)
I know this song came out 2 years ago and this may be a bit unorthodox for this kind of community, but I also like how this song really emphasizes the religious thematics of the game. As a religious guy myself, I like how (intentionally or not), some lyrics speak to much of the world's population's beliefs on "only having one shot" in their life and "transcending this corrupt world to a tower in the sky", in a way that doesn't compromise the themes present within Oneshot itself by further impacting on parts like the presence of a "Messiah" in a corrupted world. This song actually showed me a lot of symbolism of the game in a light I hadn't seen before; like how "squares" could be a euphemism for the corruption of the soul; an infestation unintended for the world's moral "code". Might not be your intent at all, but I just thought it was really cool and thought-provoking. :)
Just found this today! I'm so happy this song exist! Oneshot is definitely one of those games or type of medias that deserve that treatment. Also, thank you for not spoiling the game for newcommers but also making it enjoyable for veterans like me who's been fan of the game for a long time. It became my favorite video game of all time when I discovered it from Markiplier playing it, followed by Merg's playtrough for Solstice. Hollow Knight joined it some years ago when I bought it on Switch because it was cheap but none of these two games could ever be dethroned. They're just both too equaly good for one to be above the other.
Thank You for this great Song!! i am currently listening to it on loop, 20 minutes have passed already This is something i will always listen to again I thought my Niko plush filled the niko-shaped hole in my heart, but you managed to open it again. also, spotify says July 16th, so i see this as another Birthday gift, thank you This is now a part of my daily playlist, that i always edit to what i want to listen to, this one will stay there forever
I dont know why, but when I listen to this song, the words and the way they say it combined with the beat makes this song feel deep for some reason, as if there is lore to the song, like a thrill
oneshot was the videogame experience of my life along with undertale and outer wilds. those games are simply amazing. probably never living them down. they all have well written stories.. i could go back and forth on how much i like all of them, but it'd be too long. hence why i rather say so cool. so cool. so cool. so cool.
I've been listening to this on spotify for weeks now and only just decided to check it out over here. I picked up and beat Oneshot thanks to this song, so thank you for introducing me to that gem. It's made some memories that I'll never forget.
If only I was recommended this video sooner. I have been playing this song on loops for god knows how long now. The connections to the story are perfect AND the lyrics dont spoil the story. I had chills the first time I watched the video and I'm still getting chills listening to it.
I JUST finished One shot Solstice and I can say with confidence that HOLY... SHIT. OH MY GOD. THIS IS SO FUCKING GOOD HELLO???? IVE BEEN LISTENING TO THIS ONE REPEAT.
God I love this!!! When I played oneshot, my brother was watching me play it. We got hocked up from the story, we “might” have cried when Niko misses home crying, we also got scared every time we close the game so we make sure to save it at the Bed so they are safe then continue tomorrow. When niko made me decide which one I will choose if it was me….I picked the sun, to put the lightbulb. When niko was gone I cried. I refused that ending, it won’t let me restart the game, so (spoilers) I deleted the safe file, and the story restarted, but it changed. That’s when I achieved the perfect ending…..without reading the little note on The file telling me to delete the safe file…..i did it without knowing what might happened.
I can't believe I've missed a song about my most favorite game from my most favorite and underrated music creator! Oneshot is just the game that keeps a special place in my heart and the one I can thank for helping me establish my own universe and colorful characters. I can just sense the same amount of love towards the game from this song! The World Machine just gotta be my favorite antagonistic character with all the meta that this game is. Thank you for all your work of art! I've been a fan since the very beginning and I hope to see more from you! Your songs always make me feel happier and more motivated!
The World Machine is one of the only antagonists that caught me off-guard not once, but twice. I rarely get as angry as I did when I realized they were preventing me from talking to Niko at the end of a normal run, and the feeling I got near the end of Solstice when I connected the laws of robotics to TWM's motivations is indescribable. They tie with Niko as my favorite.
Ive listened to this quite a few times. Maybe im just emotional, but this makes me want to cry. it captures to bittersweet element of the game so well, and i just wanna give niko and TWM a hug. they both need it. I feel like im right with Niko listening to this song, it captures the vibes so well. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK HGABINKLSESF

GOOD. DO *NOT* WATCH *ANY* GAMEPLAY OF THIS, JUST PLAY IT, DOING THIS WILL HAUNT YOU FOREVER, THIS IS NOT A THREAT, THIS IS A PERSON SPEAKING FROM REGRET.
When I saw “one shot” I thought it meant it was a one-off original song and now I have an awesome looking new game downloading on my steam library. Thanks for that.
did ya finish the game yet?
How was the game?
2:56 This point keeps almost making me cry. The added instrumentals just sound so beautiful and really encapsulate the overall feeling I get from the story of OneShot, like an epic story that feels like it has been going on forever finally ending and the characters reminiscing before they say their final goodbyes.. Both OneShot and this song are masterpieces and I'm glad I got to experience them, but it still makes me almost cry. I think that emotion is actually what makes it a masterpiece, making you care about characters and a world that don't actually exist.
I just stayed up until 3 am after getting and playing OneShot for about a week, then playing solstice. My heart is in shambles and now I'm playing this on repeat. I'd ask for help if I wasn't still reeling from it so hard I'll think about it for years to come. I agree with everyone else here, you may have heard of the game, listened to songs, seen art, but you'll never understand unless you play it.
Just remember, you only have One Shot. Your time is precious. Cherish it. I know I did.
I wasn't expecting a one shot song st this time, nor ever but you surley coocked.
I miss Niko...
Neither was I.
Niko is living his best life out there.
We love him so much. Enough to let him go.
I like that this fandom is still alive and hope that in future we see more OneShot content
anyone who listens to this and is curious about it, it's a game called oneshot, markiplier has a gameplay of it but you'll have to find someone else to watch to get the true ending
I first found out about one shot by watching a French RUclipsr called Farod. The only reason I watched was because he promoted it like a ddlc and undertale spinoff.

THANK YOU
Also highly recommend for the 4th wall breaker lovers ;) Oneshot is a pretty cool game and my heart is still all over it

Oneshot doesn't just break the 4th wall, it straight up obliterates it.
@@birdboy1092 there was no 4th wall in the first place
Holy...
I played the game when it was out on steam on the first day an it still brings me to tears today.
I really hope that the new console release will give OneShot the attention it deserves, it's such a hidden gem. I am so glad I stumbled across this masterpiece of a game (and song)
Seriously if you haven't played OneShot, stop what you are doing and GO PLAY IT. It is worth it, the most unique and lasting experiences I think I'll ever have.
When the switch version comes out I'll play it (for the first time)
I’ll play it if it’s free
@@Ransa31there is a free version on rpgmaker (it’s also the original version before the Steam release, I hope you’ve already played it after 10 months lol)
As much as I love the idea of a console release, I personally believe that messes up the meta nature of the game. I have played both DDLC(another very meta game) and DDLC+(the console edition), and although they added a virtual desktop to simulate these meta experiences, it really didn't compare to the original. I would absolutely love it if console devs would add the ability to do stuff like that with console games, but right now they are not able to.
@@kenbaird7454 you could possibly do it with SteamDeck which is like a portable computer more than anything
I love how the song transitions through different parts of the game. That’s really cool

agreed
I'm unable to express how happy it makes me to see fanmade content about OneShot. Even better is that it's a song!
I like to think that this is a song that Niko and the “Broken Machine” make together (with Neko singing and the Machine adding the beat) for the player as a thank you!
Very wholesome🥹!

@@Wyi-the-rogue thanks I fixed it
@@jackham5967 yeah, also in the parenthesis
I also like to think that Niko sings the verses while TWM (The World Machine) sings the chorus.
While Niko sings about they adventure with us and their burden to bring the salvation to that world, TWM sings directly to us, trying it's best to make us save Niko.
And as a fellow fan said in the comment section of this song, Niko's verse change, they're alive and experiencing a whole new universe. While TWM repeats the same lines over and over again, following it's "code", doing everything it can to make us save Niko.
"They're living, breathing, not a slave to a broken machine."
"A heart that's beating can't belong to a broken machine."
But as an alternative theory, this song could have been done all by Niko. They never forgot that world and neither us, the player, so years later and with new technology of their world, they made a song as a way to let the memory of that adventure long ago still live on.
Fun fact! This song is sung by an AI. Everything comes full circle huh?
"You only got the one shot, so let it ride and let them leave.
They’re living, breathing, not a slave to a broken machine"
this gave me goosepumps
I love that you can absolutely tell that this was made by somoene who actually played through the game instead of just being some superficial information about the game

Replying to this. Finally got a hold of Oneshot to play for myself. I knew it was going to end rough but I had forgotten the details. Jeez. Adore the game.
I like how, a hidden gem like Oneshot, is getting more attention nowadays than before.

So happy that there a people who know this game. A under-rated AMAZING GAME THAT DESERVES MORE ATTENTION
The idea of living people in a game has so many potentials for movies and tv shows
There’s a movie sorta like that, I think it’s called “Guy” and some NPC becomes half sentient and takes control of his game or something (can’t really explain the plot well)
so there's this anime called "Sword Art Online"

Why is this so freaking good
Thank god this is on spotify, I started checking out oneshot content 3 days ago and I already love it! This song is probably one of my favorite!
Thank You for this great Song!!
i am currently listening to it on loop, 20 minutes have passed already
This is something i will always listen to again
I thought my Niko plush filled the niko-shaped hole in my heart, but you managed to open it again.

Oh, i've found your comment! And i totally agree!
this is why i think oneshot is one of the best games, period
I dont know why, but when I listen to this song, the words and the way they say it combined with the beat makes this song feel deep for some reason, as if there is lore to the song, like a thrill
I’m pretty sure there’s a word for this, “Frisson”
The "You only got the oneshot" to the "A heart that's beating can't belong to a broken machine" stuck in my head
oneshot was the videogame experience of my life along with undertale and outer wilds. those games are simply amazing. probably never living them down. they all have well written stories..
i could go back and forth on how much i like all of them, but it'd be too long. hence why i rather say

This hit completely different after finishing the Solstice route.
Your songs always make me feel happier and more motivated!
the world machine is antagonistic?
The World Machine is one of the only antagonists that caught me off-guard not once, but twice. I rarely get as angry as I did when I realized they were preventing me from talking to Niko at the end of a normal run, and the feeling I got near the end of Solstice when I connected the laws of robotics to TWM's motivations is indescribable.
They tie with Niko as my favorite.
