You can save it up to 3 days in fridge, reheat stovetop with some added water to rehydrate! And add your favorite toppings! Sometimes we just add other leftovers like bbq pork, fish, or rotisserie chicken 😊
Thank you for the recipe! When you make the congee for baby food, like stage 2, do you blend it on top of making it at the end? Wanted to know how you got the consistency as the clip around 2:20
Hi Laura! For chunkier: take the chicken out with some of the congee and blend until all the big pieces are broken down, then add the rest of the congee and the veggies and blend until the desired consistency. Hope that helps! 👶
I have quite honestly never heard of porridge except for in story books LOL. Isn't that terrible??? This looks very comforting Andrea. Hope you're having a great holiday weekend! Kindly, Theresa and Cam
Lol! Same in my Canadian upbringing, it was the Chinese side that we were exposed to this dish, and even then we never really called it porridge or even congee - we called it the Chinese name jook
This is great I am going to make this for my family! I think they will all like it. Your clear presentation makes it look so easy. I also make RUclips videos and I feel so lucky to be able to learn from other talented creators like you! I look forward to watching your future videos
thanks for the kind words! I am relatively new to RUclips too - just one year - but it’s been a blast so far and I hope you enjoy making videos! Have a great day!!
I adore congee! I made a gochujang congee with shredded tofu a while back, but that was ages ago... you've inspired me! I must make it again soon! This is an excellent base... can't wait to see what you flavor it with!
Sounds great! Yes, I wanted to do a bit more with congee, so I started with a “base” episode so people looking for a more basic video would find it! ohhh gochujang! I haven’t tried mixing it but after filming this episode my husband did drop a huge amount of kimchi into this one!
Hmm.. that's new for me.. thanks Andrea for teaching the process... it will be going in my book.. also I like the concept of stock for cooking instead of water... yes, I know you mentioned that is for babies.. but who cares.. I can be baby.. anyways keep rocking and as always amazing presentation..
Hi Andrea, l (Tí) was wondering we went to the same elementary school - Connaught because l recall my best friend having congee every day for lunch and you used to live off merivale and hunt club?
Came home from work today, dark winter night in London and I really wanted comfort food… am making congee and I will put raspberries and soaked almonds and a little bit of maple syrup! And cinnamon. And maybe cardamom. Oooooooooooo….
Hey Andrea, I’m also Vietnamese and Chinese and born in Canada ❤️❤️ I make congee all the time for my 1 year old but I do it the old fashioned way which takes forever to cook. This looks like a good way to make congee but does it ever get burnt at the bottom if we don’t stir it?
Thanks for watching! and we have so much in common! Nope, this shouldn’t burn! I actually didn’t make it this way for my little one since I have a thermomix too, but congee is prefect for the little ones :)
This looks amazing, thanks ! I'm definitely trying it out this week. As an asian person, I've grown up with plain rice congee but I've never made it with the instant pot. One little question : I was thinking of adding some grains to it to bulk up the nutritional value, like mung beans (green or yellow), millet etc... Would you recommend to adjust the water ratio ? Or can I keep it the same ? Thank you very much !
Hi Kelyrin! Thanks for watching! I would adjust the water ratio only if the grains are dry. If the grains are wet (eg pre-soaked), shouldn’t need to adjust. But you might want to experiment a little bit anyway to come to your desired consistency and texture!
Sorry I've been missing. Trying to focus on the new vids I will be releasing, and the editing is sucking up all my time. Still just wanted to come and support you, though, Andrea!
Ok thx u for the recipe 😊 .I made it and it was yummy but what do I do with the leftovers

@@AndreaCooksatHome thx u, I'm thinking of using fish balls and mushrooms

Love this type of congee. I remember eating a lot of this when not feeling well.
Yes! We still do, and sometimes make a big pot for the family on cold lazy days!!
It looks delicious 😋
Thanks Molly! :)
You’re a life saver!, I needed a quick recipe to cook congee for an upset stomach
Ultimate comfort food👍🏼😊😋
Yes, every Asian knows this as a comfort dish!
For breakfast, white congee is always the best to eat. Adding some pickles will be perfect for me,Andrea.
I could just add bamboo shoots or even just the chinese doughnut and it would be good for me too!

Never had congee before but this looks great, and I can see how the Instant Pot makes it easy to prepare! Well demonstrated as always!

Haha! Yeah, it does bump up the umami if you use stock! We ate it so many different ways growing up, this is part 1 of I don’t know how many episodes!
In my country, I often eat this white rice porridge! It's simple and easy to eat!
Haha! You are Vietnamese correct? My mom from vietnam made it a lot too growing up :)
Yes, i'm vietnamese! my friend!
I love congee. Growing up with it. I love that you can add so many toppings you like and I love jasmine rice too😁great sharing Andrea❤️
Thanks Pik :) love congee here too, so versatile and especially good when sick!
Quite similar to a Ghanaian dish called rice water. Looks delicious dear
Didn’t know about that at all!! Do you put toppings in it too? Or usually consumed more plain?
We called this lugaw in our country Andrea, i usually cook that when im under the weather.
Lugaw! thanks for letting me know. I like knowing what a similar dish in each country is called! :).

Haha! It’s a very simple but versatile dish!!
Thanks! It’s a very versatile recipe!
I really like congee so much. Add a little fish and it’s great.
Fish is my favourite way to order from restaurant if we are sick!

Nice! Did you know that in Tamil, we call it congee too...and we eat it while sick or when we feel to have a simple meal.

Thanks for visiting! :)
Why don't I already own an instant pot?!?
we have 2! and my husband wants to buy another (Star Wars) one!
1/2 c rice, 3 1/2 c water, pressure cook on high for 20 mins
Sorry I've been missing. Trying to focus on the new vids I will be releasing, and the editing is sucking up all my time. Still just wanted to come and support you, though, Andrea!
Thanks Maplecook! Looking forward to the vid! sorry was out of town the last few days so slow in responding to the comments!
Ayanakoji (cote) brought me here
This recipe makes... a mess. Not congee, more like soup, way too much liquid.
