Hohhot! That's my hometown! It's been 5 years since I last went back. I miss my family, friends, and the food! !!Being able to see my hometown through your channel is Amazing! Thank you!
What a fantastic video. A pretty international traveler able to get every corner of China by HSR, metro, bike and walking. Truly an amazing video with absolutely local favour reflecting what real tourism is all about - to experience the life of the local people, food, scenery and weather.
U r really a breath of fresh air and your contribution to dispel the misinformation and mistrust between China and US is immeasurable. Keep up the great work. Cheers!
That's brave of you to face the cold of Inner Mongolia in winter. Get a pair of gloves and don't leave home without it. I admire your adventurous spirit. Thanks for the video. Good job.
Kat, love your videos but my favorite part are when you interact with the locals. We get to learn and experience the culture through your channel. Keep up with the good work making fantastic contents for us in America ❤
It's so hard to for me to watch literally every single video of a channel, but yours? Gosh, your videos are just on point and perfect. Thank you for your little peaces of splendid art, I can't miss a single one of them. So relaxing, yet so intriguing.
LOL, you got a bark, and saw a beautiful herd of sheep! And “美国,哎呀” 😅with the "power of free food"😂. This episode is seriously, densely packed with entertainment, Katherine! Love your VLOG. 🙏
Welcome to my hometown Katherine. Everything in this video is sooo familiar with me. The Muslim place you visit is called Muslim District and that is one of the oldest districts in Hohhot. That bird & dog market is already being there even before I was born in 1981 and it was way bigger than nowadays. The maket is only a few miles from my home and my junior middle and high school 25 years ago. Good sweet memories. Thank you and hope you can visit different terrains in Inner Mongolia during all seasons.
Happy New Year Katherine! It's funny how people react when you say you're American, they would probably never imagine meeting an American walking on the streets of such a remote place, it would be the same as finding an elephant on a roof...Nice video as always. 😀
joaowust: She says that she's American, and they think, what the heck, but the guy still gives her a chestnut. If she had been a Chinese in the USA, Americans would tell her to "go back to China," and those would be the polite ones. The rude ones would shoot her dead. Note the difference between China and the USA.
Great video. Amazed that Inner Mongolia has such a good high speed rail and internal rail system, so advanced compared to some other Asian cities. I like you fun encounters with the dog and bird.
Thanks for the whild sheep chase! How hot is Hoh Hot? Not very hot in winter. That was our go to joke. I lived in Hohhot for 6 months during the fall and winter seasons back in 2002. It took a 11-12 hour overnight train to get to Hoh Hot from Beijing. It really hasn't changed outside the city. The ladies can really sing! There was a restaurant that catered for weddings across from the normal uni and every night, they will belt it out! Men wore little daggers and no gloves in -30 C weather. They also pick up bricks to settle traffic disputes. It got so cold, we would walk backwards against the wind. Restaurants can just lay their meat without refrigeration. The hotpot was always a go-to meal because it gets so freakin cold. The noodles were delicious. Mutton dumplings. Paomuo. Millet and yogurt for breakfast. Good times.
Thanks a lot for letting us know something about inner Mongolia. Is an eye opener for me Kat, thanks again, especially the birds that kept on flying back to you just for extra food! Cheers! Greeting from Malaysia!
This is extremely cool! I am moving to Beijing in February to teach kindergarten. I’m excited to see all that China has to offer! I love the cold and big open spaces, so Inner Mongolia would probably be my first stop once I have time to explore outside the capital.
Happy New Year! Looking forward to your future video clips I always enjoy as fascinating insights in the great Chinese culture! You make us rich! Dr. Hoffmann, Hamburg, Germany
Oh yes, I really enjoyed the visit with you very much. Me too, I can never resist exploring local street markets when visiting new places. Happy New Year Kat.
¡Aaaww! I loved that little bird, and the suddenly shy doggy! >w< Have you lost weight? You look great, please eat more and take care of yourself! Thank you so much for the video! :)
Ive been binge watching all your latest video up to this one. Gotta say the quality, background music and editing are so much better than last time. Keep up the good work ❤❤, look forward to more content from you
The weather is so good... ☺️ Blue Clear skies... Sun.. Really makes you feel happy... I wish for the people of Inner Mongolia sll the best 🙏 hohhot has such a welcoming vibe that it makes me shed a tear... 🥲 Somehow i knew that northern Regions have better weather than southern regions...
Happy New Year Katherine! Inner Mongolia is very beautiful and special In it’s unique way! Loved the birds and the peanut jar explosion and of course the sheep😂 Thank you for your hard work! You are truly amazing with a unique talent and you command of Chinese is the best I’ve ever heard!
glad you like the videos 🐑 hope to do an in-depth exploration of northern china in 2025, its definitely a completely different experience from what I'm used to in the south/middle of the country
What a lovely video to kick off 2024. Amazing to see how many fun things you did and saw in a day trip. Your highlight was the sheeps but mine was the 'trust me I won't fly away" bird! :D
Happy New Year to you, Katherine! Thanks for sharing this video that captured the essence of how the locals live, right down to taking his bird out for a walk on a stick. I have never seen that before. Love your comment of the "power of free food" that keeps the birds from flying away instead of coming back! Your love and passion for living in China come through in all your videos. Your mastery of speaking Mandarin and reading Chinese characters is one reason the locals love you and have such respect for you. Keep up the good work and being a great ambassador. If all Americans will embody a fraction of what you are trying to show them, we will have peace.
Bird walking and bird catching red bean is too cute!! We also have domesticated birds. We let them out in the morning and sure as the sun's rise they never fail to come back before nightfall HAHQHQ
@@kats_journey_east If you go to Inner Mongolia at this time, you will be frozen and cry. If you don't wear gloves and ride a bicycle, you will be gone. 😂

Nǐ hǎo Katherine and thanks for the very interesting Inner Mongolia views and update! Back in the 1970s the closest I got to Inner Mongolia was Buryatia in Russia and in China Yenan (Yan'an), then again in 2011 - the wonderful Yonghe Temple area in Beijing with lots of Mongol influence. FYI it’s warmer here in Finland’s old capital Turku - namely 80 degrees C in the sauna (banya) or outside more moderate like Hohhot - minus 20 degrees C. When suitably dressed, it’s very refreshing for brisk walks in the sunshine. Cheers and Happy New Year!
You've opened my eyes to ordinary life in lots of parts of China, if not to the omnipresence of Big Brother. I especially enjoy your larky expressions - you must have picked some of them up from your older family members?

"Biden is the worst!"
Great video and sense of humour, almost makes me want to get a job at Mcdonalds...in Inner Mongolia.

I am so jealous of you from Canada! 👍👍❤❤😊😊
Every time Katherine said she was from the US, the local middle-aged uncles would give a hard-to-say expression, that made me laugh a lot!
Because US government warning people to reconsider going to China and they won’t expect people not listening to their government.
*don't be rude* *don't be rude*

Bullet trains make it so easy to travel in China. Envy.
That bird is amazingly intelligent. Great video again.👍👍👍
Thank you for your vídeos in China. We receive so much negative propaganda about this beautiful country in the US.😊
US media is/was working hand in glove with their government. 😂
A bullet train to Inner Mongolia .... China truly is living in the future! Thanks for sharing as always Katherine. 🙏

So down to earth. Watching your video is actually healing. I am lying in my bed recovering from COVID-19
