  • Join us for the next chapter of the £1 Salvaged Yacht Restoration journey, where we confront the aftermath of the sunken vessel's watery grave. In this episode, we roll up our sleeves to tackle the massive task of clearing waterlogged interiors and removing remnants left behind. Watch as we meticulously remove all items and embark on the arduous process of removing expanding foam from lockers and bilges to restore structural integrity. With determination and grit, we delve into the extensive sanding operation to prepare surfaces for restoration, all while facing the challenge of safely removing the mast. Follow our progress as we navigate the complexities of salvaging and reviving this remarkable vessel, one step closer to its triumphant return to the sea.

    I would suggest doing a very thorough inspection of your deck to hull joints. On my Vivacity, the best part of it was loose. It's a sandwich box type joint with brass bolts hidden under the bumper wood strip. The amount of glue they inserted in the joint was not enough.
    Secondly, all the chain plates were just connected to the deck, which lifted the deck from the hull.
    I rebuild the hull to deck joint from scratch, and installed new stainless chain plates, redesigned to connect through to hull, meaning, all rigging tension is in the hull, and not the deck. Same for the rear stays and forstay connections.

    • @BoatzUK
      @BoatzUK  6 месяцев назад

      Thank you for this great advice, I will be having a thorough inspection of all the deck to hull joints, so far I have not had a closer inspection as yet, but this is definitely great information for me to follow up on, I will keep you posted on what we find 🙏⛵️⛵️

      Yes, but sometimes things are just too far gone and would be easier and cheaper to replace than repair. Also in terms of environmental factors; recycling the old boat by separating metals and other recyclable materials and burning the rest as energy would pollute less than than this; spreading microplastics into the environment by sanding it in the open. Manufacturing a new boat, and even manufacturing this one back in the day likely polluted less than its repairwork.

    Paint scraper maybe cheapest solution. Causes unintentional scratch to gelcoat but those are easy to fix. I scraped antifouling paint and primers from one of my previous boats for about 20-30 hours.
