Hey big d I scored a free amp on market place seem the remote input was lose so score for me it's a audison sr 1dk any good looked online and seems decent but cant find any tests on it

This amp always sounded good on 2 12's and even 15's... plus it never broke the bank, we always laughed at the 3000 on the front though, we always assumed it was about 1000 watts, glad to see it make closer to that.... classic amp there, it got many of my friends into car sound/audio
Nice, this was my first sub amp ever. Ebay for 120 bucks, purchased alongside 2 planet audio12s and for the money was perfect. Thanks Big d for that shot of nostalgia. Huge fan of the channel, you are always polite and humble as well as honest and knowledgeable. Appreciate you and thanks again.
Thank you do for bringing back old memories:-). I had one of these back in the day worked well. Still have my rockford fosgate 1000a just fixed some cracked soldering on the audio inputs side can't wait to try it back out😁
I remember these we had 2 of them each pushing 4 10s in the bed of a single cab s10 with a port through into the cab. We were less than a grand in on the build but she slammed.
These amps have a market. I like seeing these vids. I'm an old schooler . I had the old Precision Power Art Series in my first car, bumping Techmaster PEB. I like watching the vids. From Focal to Audiopipe, from McIntosh to Pyle, I love it all. Keep up the good work,

Techmaster PEB was pretty good I still have about 80-100 old-school bass songs. Blew my dad's 12" house speakers with PEB when I 12. Then I took the speaker out of box and seen the magnet and tiny voice coil and I was not was not surprised it went lol.
Enjoyed the video. Legacy was the first car audio amp that I owned as a young teenager back when I first began driving. Had my Legacy amp hooked up to a pair of 10" Infiniti Reference series subs. Surprisingly the sound quality from the subs was very nice, of course it was no ground pounder but for a teenager in his first vehicle it was good times. *Note car audio was A LOT more expensive during those days too... Taramps, Banda, Stetsom, Timpano, full bridge Brazilian amps etc... None of that was around back then. So buying a 5k rms amp for $380, a 8k rms amp for $475 just didn't happen back then.
My First amp was a Legacy. Had it powering a JL W4 D4 12 in an Omni in 1997. This thing actually ripped the spider from the cone. Rated at only like 320 rms. The JL dealer would only warranty it out if THEY installed the new woofer in the car and had their installer verify it wasn't user error. They were happy with the install , grounds wiring...o scope the gains. Turns out this thing had alot of head room. They couldnt believe it for a swap meet amp. I got an Alpine V12 Expert and a second w4 soon after. Can't believe they still make these things. It was stupid cheap. Cheaper than BOSS.
Maybe it's just the camera angle but the output cap on the right hand side, second row looks like it is starting to bulge. If it is that could explain the dirty power. Either way I was impressed with the Amp, thanks for the great videos!
@@wal I used to do electronics repair for mostly hifi and televisions. Watching your gut shots always makes me happy looking at different amplifier designs. I would be really curious if you were to replace that cap if it would make a difference. You have no idea how happy it makes me that you replied to my comment! Thanks bigD!!
I remember doing an install a while back for a customer that brought in a similar American Legacy amp and 2 Dr. Crankenstein 10" subs. That setup actually pounded beyond what I expected.
This was my very first bass amp in my Nova 1.3 back in 2001 running x2 jbl 300rms 12inch subs sounded so good and had it for 5 years . Used to pull up and have partys round the car lol , the Good old days lol .
Phase shift is Something I wish that more amplifiers come with because depending on the position of my speakers, I will need the phase shift to balance out the difference in wavelength. Even though it did a good amount of watts, we still need to see how long it can last at rated power. And the efficiency on this one holds me back because I would need two times the batteries to run it.
I remember the American legacy and power acoustic amps as a teenage .They were the only amps i could afford but they did the job, sometimes to good for my cheap ass speakers
Legacy red series 2 was my first amp back when I was 16 bought it new at the pawn shop in 05. Pretty decent little amps if your on a part time job budget just don't expect to be winning any db drag racing contest.
I had a red American Legacy amp for my first amp... It wasn't too bad either! It pushed my subs hard enough to be fun. Then I replaced it with an Xtreme 800w monoblock, which did even better... Ah, high school. Cheap no-name amps and horrible installs. But hey, it lead to a career for me!
Man this video takes me back. Reminded me of my first amps which were Boss and American Pro amps. They were great for the price but definitely flea market status.
2006 I had a small stereo shop at a Flea market . I sold about 5 of these I never had one brought back . I Installed an l7 12” kicker in a sealed box IT WAS A BEAST CUSTOMER WAS VERY HAPPY .
I installed a smaller 2 channel version of this amp way back in the day. Against my advice the customer said bridge it to his 2 single 4ohm Memphis m class 12” subwoofers in a custom down firing ported box we built for his ext cab s10. I remember it sounding very clean and putting out decent power, not close to what it said but it never shut off and I know over a year later he was still running it at 1 ohm without issue.
In 2011 when i was in highschool i knew a guy that ran one of these on 2 Alpine type R. 10" subs in a slot vented box. It bumped almost as good as my MMats D200HC and rockford t1d4 10" in a custom built vented box. I was impressed with how hard his setup hit for being almost half as much as mine was. Now i know why, that amp gets down considering.
A late friend of mine had this amp for 7 years with the matching red 1200w (lol) 12inch subs. Flea market special. With our homemade enclosure, he hit high 130s and shake the pics off the wall at our apartment. R.I.P. TJ --thanks for the video Big D
I bought Lanzar 6 channel about a year ago. I finally made time on July 4th teach my son to install an amp. It’s BT. It’s the HTG669bt. I was very surprised how it pushed a pair of 2-ohm CDT-690sex. And a 6.5 Gately Resilient. I did have time to install my mono lock Rockford. How this heritage line bridged down to 1 ohm on the 6x9s. I realize they over rate their amps. But for $106 dollars on Amazon. It’s worth that. It’s seems Pyle has stopped producing most of the heritage line. I want the 8 channel now. However, inflation makes most equipment not worth the price.
Can't believe this thing almost did rated power! I definitely remember seeing these amps back in the day, and I never, ever thought they did close to rated. That's crazy! Thanks for the surprise video Big D!
I had a Legacy LA590 2 channel amp back in the day. Worked great for what it was. Had it on a couple Audiobahn 10s (back before Audiobahn was junk). It hit harder than the Lanzar 1000 watt amp I swapped over two. Put the LA590 on a couple 4 way 6x9s. Worked amazing on those as well.
That's pretty great! I've always strayed from these amps 2nd hand because they just scream cheap. I see them at pawn shops all the time for cheap and if its putting out that much power this could definately be a score!
I recently got an American Legacy Series 2 LA690 4 Channel amp. I tried to find specs but they were vague. Some said 4 x 250 @ 4 ohms, but that doesn't sound possible. One guy said they used an o-scope to measure power and it did 690 watts total, 345 watts per bridged channel, but didn't specify impedance. I tested mine with a 12 volt battery and load resistors and got 33 watts per channel into 4 ohms, so I figured about 66 watts per channel into 2 ohms, and 132 watts per bridged channel into 4 ohms. When I bridged 2 channels I got 66 watts into 4 ohms, indicating 33 per channel into 2 ohms, so the amp is not doubling power by halving impedance.
When Jensen joined the "MOSFET" class of amplifiers, they were actually fantastic for the price, I used them in my boat and have had them completely under water and they still worked after they dried out! Needless to say, I was astonished by that. The subs however did not fare so well with the water... (there was a crack in the hull from river racing, it was a Wriedt Custom jet boat).
I used to own that same amp , back in 05 , never thought it would come close to doing anywhere near rated power , but definitely knew it wasn't clean power , after all it's a maxxsonics brand, not bashing maxxsonics at all, just they are not known for clean power , I had it pushing a Power Acoustik Fubar dual 2 ohm 12 in a sealed box in a ford focus and it beat the back dash out and rear door panels off so I was very excited to see it on the dyno , always wondered what it was actually putting out , I have to say they were built pretty tough , I upgraded subs to a Punch hex dual 1 ohm and broke it in with this amp at half ohm , while saving up for a fosgate amp
This must have been the top of the line amp in JC Whitney catalog that year! For those folks who couldn't quite afford the Profile California and USAcoustics amps in Crutchfield!
I'm a power electronics designer (mostly 3 phase motor drives), maximum power is always obtained at right around 50% efficiency. While it sucks from an efficiency standpoint, it's literally delivering the most power it's physically capable of. She's given you all she's got!
They left behind a , Legacy !! I have always loved these amplifiers , they were called the , cylons , because of the chrome and sci fi looks , remember Battlestar galactica?? Yes the cylon amplifier , I have two Legacy ICE, Amplifiers still in the box new , the largest two channel that they ever made and the matching four channel ice amplifier , they sparkle and have the diamonds ,( artificial diamonds of course ) spelling out the LEGACY ,name on the amplifier , and yeah their rare as can be , almost impossible to find now , keep pulling for the under dog , because if you like it who cares what others say , LEGACY AMPLIFIERS !
IMO flea market for the win I bought one of these for $50 back in the day had it on a couple Fosgate Punch 12's in a ported box and it made me more than happy it pounded for over 2yrs in my work truck with absolutely NO problems Cheap power that just did it's job day in day out 👍🏾 Another top notch video from my guy BigD Wiz
Why's everyone writing about when they had one of these? Why not that you have one? I still have mine. Got it off eBay in maybe 2003, and am still using it today! Nice to see its living up to the power rating.
The input capacitors can supply a large amount of energy during the burst sessions. That is how they don't blow fuses, and can reach burst power over rated.
I owned one of these back in the day and ran it at .5 with no issues. I always figured it was putting out around 1000 rms. It impressed a few of my buddies who had hi end systems. I bought mine for $50 at a pawn shop. Not bad at all.
I sold 100s of these amp matches with kicker subs and max and crossfire subs when these first came.. low cost amps to get someone started in the car audio lifestyle.. then moved them up later to U.S. Amps and crossfire amp back in the day..
I’ve had one of these amps for about15 yrs it is used as my bedroom stereo amp. it’s been pounding my 2 12” kicker DVC speakers for years!! If it ain’t broken don’t fix it :-)
I had the 1400.2 and always bridged whatever I hook to it, it never blew and I actually sold it for $160 and it had a remote bass knob, that's what sold it so easy.. it sounded pretty good, had it on 4 kick solo barric 10s the ohm loud I'm not even sure, probably 1ohm
I remember seeing these at Big Top Flea Market in Tampa Florida, but they were always out of my price range...WAY out of my price range. I ended up going to BestBuy and getting two chrome plated 600w Kenwood amps with the two meters on the top for the same price range as this amp. It ran my two JL Audio 15s in my Exploder and I could bounce a full Coke can 10 feet in the urr. After that setup I went with two Diamond Audio 12s with a 1500 watt Diamond amp.
I had this amp back in the day! Never got it installed in my car though. I didn’t know how to do that back then and didn’t have any friends to help me. Eventually just sold the amp.
Since you're on Flea Market amps, The best amps I found back in the mid-ninties was the old B-52. Specs blew away almost everything in old Precision Power and JL . Super Clean.
I saw the picture and thought "Hey, I had that amp back in the day" It worked really well for my 2 Sony P5's in a sealed box. *Commented before watching*
Big D wiz fuse types are also rated on time basis and percentage of fuse value. Ie the fuse may blow instantaneously at 800% but work for 3 hrs at 125% of rated value. Depending on fuse time these percentages and time values change
Owned the 1200watts one to this way back in the day with 3 pioneers. Honestly that was one the loudest system I owned! Everyone stopped me and ask me what I got in the trunk.
You just drove the price of this amp up like the Orion. Before the amp test Orion hcca amps were at a very reasonable price, but after the amp dyno they damn near doubled the price of all of them. Lol
Man one of the best amps i ever owned hands down id say its better than any kicker mtx or any amp i ever owned id beat it all day everday no problems...hade them beating the old school audio pipes the ones with the lil mic under the words man i lv the amp
Picked up one just like this think it was like 1500 or 2000 though but got it from a ole pawn shop for like $30 and it put in work for almost a year before I burned her to the ground lol!!! Tried wiring down 3 12” kicker dvc 4 ohm to like .8 or 9 or something dumb and it worked actually decently for like 3 months!!!
Excellent video as always. I believe you'll find irf3710 or rfp22n10 mosfets in this old boy. Something most probably don't know about amplifiers is the designs are usually done by the silicon manufacturer and not who builds one and puts there brand/logo on the cover. These amps were no exception. They're designed by Renesas/Intersil. Search an9525.pdf and you'll find the original design. Most amplifiers are either a derivative, or a straight datasheet copy from the silicon manufactures appnote or paper. Cheers
I had two of these back in the day and yeah got em from the flea market!! Had em on four ten inch kicker comps!!! For the price I felt like I won because those kickers were beating!!!
I honestly am not surprised... I picked up a similar used model from someone who was having "protection mode" issues for $20, mind you it was a class d mono 2kw with 2 outputs, and it power 2 1.5kw single coil subs with ease and I never had an issue with it... Flea market or not this brand is damn good for what they ask for their amps...
I gotta bang for the buck combo, I bought a taramps bass 1200 and an 18 ct sounds tropo, installed in recommend ported box at 5 cubes calculated both port and basket displacement tuned at 36 Hertz its ridiculous for under 400$ - existing o guage and 150 amp disconnect I agree I dont like it being a mono amp no up to 0 guage input
I had a Legacy LA-960 back in...I wanna say 2002-2003, I don't know what kind of power it truly put out but it would mechanically bottom out the Kicker L5 12 I had it on... Since it was the highest power (allegedly) amp I had in high school, I looked for another one a year or so ago but didn't have any luck finding one.
I had this amp in the year 2005 I loved the look of it. But after a couple of years it would get very hot very quick. Mine was class A/B, I didn’t even know they made class D
This flea market series rocks. I’ve always had this thing to see what could be done with cheap power. Not everything was as bad as it’s made out to be. I knew many a guys with good systems built from “flea market” brands. If that’s what you got to work with, work with it.
Sure would've killed to have it when I was in high school. And at that price, I could've swung it easy. I put an amp from this same maker on a customer's boat as a sub amp, customer supplied it. I didn't expect much from it but it slams & makes waves on the water. I don't expect it to last long tho in the salt. Great test Big D
Williston Audio Labs I remember seeing these for sale all the time back in early 2000’s and always wondering if it was just a looks gimmick. Now I’m wishing I would of bought a few back then lol!
180 degrees is all the degrees you needz lol. If you need more for whatever reason, you can flip the polarity of the speaker terminal and then use the phase adjustment from there :) Looking forward to the next vid, as always. Hopefully you bring out the distortion detector soon, its been a while!
I had the 600w version back in the day and thought it was pretty good, it slammed my 10" square Kicker. Everyone always thought I had two 12's in my truck, it was in a big competition style box though.
What is the amp on the table in the top left with the yellow heatsinks on the sides at 0:15? I used to have one like that 20 years ago but it was longer.
I had a few of those amps in the past but I didn't bomb from the flea market I just traded for them but I thought they did good and I do like the looks.
My friends dad had a business so we used his vendors license at the Wholesale House in Hicksville, Ohio and buy our car stereo equipment at wholesale prices. We stayed away from pyramid stuff and the Legacy stuff was just ok. I wish I could get that hook up in Arizona. Lol
This is why I state that you can not count fuses to determine how many watts a amp can produce. But I used a few of these amps back in the day with a good amount of success...but the price and performance made this a great choice for the street bangers. And lets remember this ps competition? It handled its own😎
Like 20 years ago, I had 1 of these pushing a RF HX2 Power and an MTX 280 watt pushing 2 RF XLC's...The SPL was INSANE! The amp would get hot and turn off from time to time. Somebody broke into my car and stole all my stuff. :(

@@wal yeah I know they still around but barely. Nothing like they used to be. Pyramid got me into car audio. I made it work with them.
My first sub was a pyramid 10 inch wedged into rear deck and rear glass! Free air! No box! 🤣😂 To be young again!!
I like positive surprises 👌
I had a Legacy LA590 2 channel amp back in the day. Worked great for what it was. Had it on a couple Audiobahn 10s (back before Audiobahn was junk). It hit harder than the Lanzar 1000 watt amp I swapped over two. Put the LA590 on a couple 4 way 6x9s. Worked amazing on those as well.
😬👍
Very surprising for a flea market amp! Great video Big D!
I thought the same!
This was my first amp. It seemed like it was loud back then. Really did. Thanks for doing the vid bro
I used to own that same amp , back in 05 , never thought it would come close to doing anywhere near rated power , but definitely knew it wasn't clean power , after all it's a maxxsonics brand, not bashing maxxsonics at all, just they are not known for clean power , I had it pushing a Power Acoustik Fubar dual 2 ohm 12 in a sealed box in a ford focus and it beat the back dash out and rear door panels off so I was very excited to see it on the dyno , always wondered what it was actually putting out , I have to say they were built pretty tough , I upgraded subs to a Punch hex dual 1 ohm and broke it in with this amp at half ohm , while saving up for a fosgate amp
not maxxsonics.
This must have been the top of the line amp in JC Whitney catalog that year! For those folks who couldn't quite afford the Profile California and USAcoustics amps in Crutchfield!
I remember ALL THAT!!!
👌😬👍
I had this amp back in the day. But i liked my old amp it beat that mess out 4 12” Sub’s! Loved the old amp!
Awesome feedback. See, not all flea market amps are junk 🤙
I had one of those when I was like 17 on a pair of kove 12's my mirror and windshield got a divorce. Good video brought back some memories!
I used to own this amp years ago it worked great and looked amazing
Why's everyone writing about when they had one of these? Why not that you have one? I still have mine. Got it off eBay in maybe 2003, and am still using it today! Nice to see its living up to the power rating.
Pyramid Gold / Superpro series old man Jim in the Raleigh Flea Market mall Back in the day
I’m sure I bought stuff from him!
There was a Pyramid Superpro amp back in the day early/mid 90's that had the exact same guts, heatsink, and everything as the PPI art series.
I love the Cylon look of the amp and the heatsinks contrasting against the chrome.
The red on the PCB is called solder mask. You can get solder mask in many different colors.
I think all the masks are sold out 👈🤣
The input capacitors can supply a large amount of energy during the burst sessions. That is how they don't blow fuses, and can reach burst power over rated.
👌😬👍
I owned one of these back in the day and ran it at .5 with no issues. I always figured it was putting out around 1000 rms. It impressed a few of my buddies who had hi end systems. I bought mine for $50 at a pawn shop. Not bad at all.
Wow that was a dealio
@@wal it was the typical stripped out screws and banged up. Cleaned it up nice and bought new screws.
I like the circuitry in this one, simple and well laid out and chose good components
Single sided PCB. Simple and effective
I sold 100s of these amp matches with kicker subs and max and crossfire subs when these first came.. low cost amps to get someone started in the car audio lifestyle.. then moved them up later to U.S. Amps and crossfire amp back in the day..
Thanks for watching and commenting!
I’ve had one of these amps for about15 yrs it is used as my bedroom stereo amp. it’s been pounding my 2 12” kicker DVC speakers for years!! If it ain’t broken don’t fix it :-)
Thank you for explaining the current draw vs fuse rating deal. Didn’t know that at all till now.
I had a legacy amp back in the day. Budget amp that pushed 2 12 jbl subs. Didn't sound bad at all
I had this amp back in the day!
After watching and hearing it came out in 2005 is perfect! Senior year! lol
great video, reminded me of the good old days.
Big D wiz fuse types are also rated on time basis and percentage of fuse value. Ie the fuse may blow instantaneously at 800% but work for 3 hrs at 125% of rated value. Depending on fuse time these percentages and time values change
Great point 👌
Owned the 1200watts one to this way back in the day with 3 pioneers. Honestly that was one the loudest system I owned! Everyone stopped me and ask me what I got in the trunk.
I remember this amp brand from back in the day and I always wanted one. To me this is a great amp with great power especially for the price.
I liked it too 👌
kind of reminds me of the original Street Wire amps. Great price point for the budget minded. Thanks as always Big D!
Yes they do! Those were much nicer though
You just drove the price of this amp up like the Orion. Before the amp test Orion hcca amps were at a very reasonable price, but after the amp dyno they damn near doubled the price of all of them. Lol
It sucks too because everyone is looking for that deal.
Man one of the best amps i ever owned hands down id say its better than any kicker mtx or any amp i ever owned id beat it all day everday no problems...hade them beating the old school audio pipes the ones with the lil mic under the words man i lv the amp
I'm so surprised. Wow. Thanks again for another great video.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Very cool to see a cheapo do so well..nice find derek
I never expected a legacy to hit its rms figures. Every legacy I encountered was a piece. Very nice video!
Cheers
👌😬👍
just seeing the 2 40 amp fuses lead me to believe 800 rms or so is achievable from this. but to see it go over 1200 haha thats actually nice to see
Yes it was quite shocking!
Man this takes me back!!! Bought mine from "The Andersons" store for 120$... had it running 4 10 inch Crossfire subs.... Lol
I had one of them the 1600watt version and it pounded my w7 12
There ya go 👌
😆
Had that same amp years ago...is a workhorse for sure but gets REALLY hot but never gave up.
preforms well and Looks good! the god of flea market amps!
👌😬👍
I gotta bang for the buck combo, I bought a taramps bass 1200 and an 18 ct sounds tropo, installed in recommend ported box at 5 cubes calculated both port and basket displacement tuned at 36 Hertz its ridiculous for under 400$ - existing o guage and 150 amp disconnect I agree I dont like it being a mono amp no up to 0 guage input
Finally IV been asking you to test that amp for a year
I had a Legacy LA-960 back in...I wanna say 2002-2003, I don't know what kind of power it truly put out but it would mechanically bottom out the Kicker L5 12 I had it on... Since it was the highest power (allegedly) amp I had in high school, I looked for another one a year or so ago but didn't have any luck finding one.
I had a buddy that had a Legacy 15 (red surround) in 93ish, and it pounded in a 3cuft ported box.
I'm watching this in my bedroom on my PC which is hooked to a 3 piece sub/sat system. During the sub-woofer test my coffee cup walked across my desk.
Oh man... I love flea market gear. Please test more!!!
Very impressive numbers. Especially for an old school Legacy amp👍👍
I sold the hell out of these back in the day. We always did 4 free air pioneer 12s on a deck wall behind the rear wall of the car. Old school shit
I’m extremely surprised I never thought it would even do 600 watts.
Me too
Williston Audio Labs I remember seeing these for sale all the time back in early 2000’s and always wondering if it was just a looks gimmick. Now I’m wishing I would of bought a few back then lol!
Williston Audio Labs like to see the one that says 1600 watt on it tested now
180 degrees is all the degrees you needz lol. If you need more for whatever reason, you can flip the polarity of the speaker terminal and then use the phase adjustment from there :)
Looking forward to the next vid, as always. Hopefully you bring out the distortion detector soon, its been a while!
I have a new, fancy THD analyzer you’ll see soon 😬
I had the 600w version back in the day and thought it was pretty good, it slammed my 10" square Kicker. Everyone always thought I had two 12's in my truck, it was in a big competition style box though.
Sleeper FM amp!
Lol
Yeah no doubt!
The devider between the plexi I cut mine out and put a long piece in it and it looked pretty sweet.
