KEF amps are designed and relabled by Coustics at this time I think? And I think there are some nice "pure" Class A amps like "Adcom GFA" (Nelson Pass), "Steg MSK Classe A", etc.? Most are only high biased A/B amps but I though the Adcom was pure? Would be nice if you got some time to contact me Derreck. Tried to reach you on several ways ;)
what up big d i helped my neighbor out with a system in his hot rod he gave me some subs for helping him they were brand new in box i was suprised when i seen them they are a a blue alpine type r is a single coil and the trim ring is black with splashed blue paint on it design i cant find anything about these subs i looked on youtube google and nothing
I have six Alpine 3558’s. And Juba 6x9’s. Plus a heap of old Orion NT series amps. And Rockford Fosgate amps from the 1990’s. 3549’s, 3544’s. Phoenix Gold 4x25 triple Darlingtons. I guess I’m a collector (not a hoarder).
Being an Alpine guy, I always wanted to get an Alpine 3558. At one time I owned an Alpine 7909, that was in excellent shape, 3 3545’s, 3 3544’s, 4 3543’s and 3 3549’s. Could never find a 3558 to add to my collection, but I tried. Unfortunately my car audio hobby is slowly coming to an end because of age and health. I don’t have that collection anymore or any pictures, that I know of, to show people, but I know what I had.
Dyno the KEF! Would love to see how well it does. Also, Thank You 🙏🏻 for doing these videos. I really enjoy them and been a big fan of car audio since 1989. So it’s really neat to see some old school stuff and brings back a lot of memories for me! Thanks Big D!!!
I used to rep for the JBL distributor here in Aus & i'm devastated I left just before the JBL/Crown Amp came out, as I think it is an awesome piece of audio engineering. Would love to have one just to display at home.
Shop called genes audio in Havelock NC has one of those crowns for sale. Don't know what he wants for it but he's had it in the shop for years. Love your channel big d.
I've just noticed that your Subs have gone over the quarter of a million.. Huge congrats 🤟 And this week is the 4th year anniversary of subscribing the the channel. And I would say I've been a Patreon member for at least 3 of those years.. Keep up the great work Big D.. The best car audio channel on RUclips by miles 👍 👏
I have one thats been sitting in my basement for like 15 years. I never even hooked it up. Bought it simply because i could and never used it because i just couldnt fit it into any of my systems. Its gigantic and super heavy.
I have that harmon Cardon amp now and it works. I also have another similar hardon cordon. Amp the foot print of the second one is just about the same. It puts out some clean clean power. I love your vids big D.
Great video…. Every once and awhile I break out some OLD SCHOOL home and car audio. Man it took a few years when I was young to afford. Then people didn’t want later- lol still sounds Great to me! God bless and Happy Thanks Giving Brother.
Very cool Big D! I do miss how the top shelf brands all had Car audio lines! A/D/S, Phase Linear, Nakamichi, F&*king ADCOM!! I personally am after any of the Altec Lansing car stuff from the 80's-90's.
Derreck, I love the vintage stuff. You should do a dyno test of the Sound Ordinance M350-1 mono amp. It’s a popular budget amp made by crutchfield’s in house brand but there is NO coverage of it anywhere online. I bet a lot of people would appreciate the video
I've never seen the guts on those H/K amps. Way cool!! Now I see where Tru Technology borrowed the design for their Steel line of amps. Very ingenious design. I definitely want to see you test out the Coustic DR amp too, btw. Great video as always BigD!! 👌
Omg Big D. I think you have literally the nicest, cleanest Kef KA amplifier in the world. That's amazing to have one that was never taken out of the box. I would love to see it on the dyno. You already know we love the 👑 JBL 6000, and what we want to see is the Crown pushing the Kicker quad box inside the Sequoia with the DB meter hooked up so we can see how loud you can get that thing! I would love to I see the Crown 6000 vs the new Taramps smart 5k with the Kicker Quad box inside the Sequoia with the DB meter taking measurements. That would make for an awesome video!!!! Anyway, you have a beautiful collection of amplifiers, my friend. Thanks for showing them to us. Love the content, and I hope to see the Crown/JBL 6000 vs your other high power amplifiers in the Sequoia with the Kicker Quad box in there and the DB meter stuck on the windshield. I think you can hit a 150db with all the windows up for a legal score, and I bet you can hit a 152 in the kick with the window open on the drivers side
Just got this now. So mad I did not get notification earlier. Way cool video BigD. Way back when amps were rated accurately. Please please lets see that Coustic. Gary Biggs had a Regal with those amps. Just a sweat set up. Yes on the kicker demo please.
I absolutely want to see the coustic design reference amp review. They are very rare. I owned the big brother to the one you showed in this video. It was a beast of a surfboard amp but really voltage sensitive needing near the 14 volt and above to work well. Thanks Big D for all your videos. I am avid viewer. Keep up the good wortk!
Yes please on the KEF amp. In the late 90s (maybe 98) my local JBL rep also happened to be the KEF rep. He convinced me to pony up on a two pair of KEF 6.5 components. I enjoyed them for a few years and decided I wanted to try a Dynaudio setup and sold them. I wish I hadn't and regretted it especially when I found out KEF no longer offered their KAR lineup anymore. I've had a KEF KAR eBay alert for at least 5 years. I finally landed a NOS pair from Estonia. I paid way too much for them, but I'm super excited to install them in my car.
Adcom amplifiers were very rare. They made Class A car amplifiers. They had line drivers used to the input voltage up to run them efficiently. They were some beautiful looking amps.
Hi there Big D! I really love the content that you have been making lately. I wanted to comment on the Harmon Kardon TC-600. I actually had one back in 1998-2000. It was in my 1993 Toyota Pickup mini truck. At the time I was working part time at a local shop called CB Audio County off of HWY. 441 Orange Blossom Trail in the Orlando, Florida area as an Mobile Electronics Installation/Vehicle Security specialist. But enough of that long introduction. I was running (2) 10" single 8 ohm voice coil subwoofers in parallel which gave it a 4ohm. Bridged across the left (+) and right (-). On top of that in the doors was a pair of A.D.S. 320is 5 1/4" w/separate tweeter components. I use the Kicker low pass inline subwoofer filter crossover to 80HZ. And for the A.D.S. Components where a home make coil and capacitors that I pierced together with some surplus parts from a store in Winter Park, Florida called Skycraft Surplus and Parts. That was my first real high end amplifier for me at the time. Now I really wish I would have kept it. I will see if I can dig up some pictures and send them to you. Thanks again for the great content. Cheers, Scott Thompson
I had an amp in the early 90s which was branded as either PRO LINE OR PROLINE. The logo had a sine wave drawn under it. Was definitely made by PPI, even used the same din connectors that my later PPI's used. Painted white with a red PCB. I have always wondered if the Sedona line replaced these and as I acquired it in a trade for another amp I always wondered where they were sold. Never seen another in person or online and only thing even close I have seen are the Crutchfield or Audiohaus amps that were manufactured by PPI. Not rare and cool like the ones in this vid but I always keep my eye out looking for one.
PPI had a specific “OEM” line they used for dozens of other companies as you mentioned. I have some Sansui amps with the same boards. Not as impressive as the AM series but about on par with Sedona but without any xover features.
@@envisionelectronics I totally forgot about the Sansui amps. Place I worked at in the 90's was a Sansui dealer but they only carried the home stuff, the employees could get the car product with a discount but I never did.
KEF weren't the only ones, Mission (UK speaker company) also had a range of speakers and an amp for a short while, now very rare. The Amp was a very unusual looking thing called the Mission Freeway. It used the same current-feedback class-AB architecture as used in their Hi-Fi amps (under the Cyrus brand). I still own a couple along with their 5.25" component kit and they sounded amazing at the time. Look it up to see how funky it looks...
Big D. I have a U.S. amps TU-4360. I'm currently using it in my vehicle. Was able to purchase it from an older iasca winner from Wa state. The sound it produces is awesome. Can you tell me more about it? I've seen your other U.S amp vids, but never one with the tu-4360.
I vaguely remember the kef car audio speaker series being sold in the USA. Kef is a great home audio company like Polk and infinity. But they were a step above Polk and infinity and decided to stick with there roots as a home audio speaker manufacturer as car audio was more reguareded for brawn rather than nuance. It’s kinda hard to close your eyes and pin point where a certain violinist or a jazz singer was positioned in the soundstage while you were driving down the highway at 60mph. They were a little bit more of an obscure company that boasted accuracy rather than sheer power. And that’s why I love seeing these rare “audiophile” items come out in car audio. It’s a chance for me to marry my 2 loves about audio. “Audiophile precision” with the brute power of a car audio system. I wouldn’t love to see that kef on the test bench. I’ve never even seen a write up about these amps. I’m sure they push their speced numbers but I’d still like to see more of this amp. This video unlocked a past memory about the kef speakers. I completely forgot about them all together
Came across my old Carver M240 that was once part of the system in my 84 Z28. It drove 2 12" subs mounted in the rear storage well of that generation Camaro.
I am so glad that the price per watt has gone down so much since the 90's. I remember paying almost as much for a 200 watt amp, that I paid for a 2200 watt amp just a year ago.
I have an old Rockford Fosgate amp. Been sitting on the top shelf of the closet for years, I don't know if it still works. If has an under dash control knob, just a single knob. While talking vintage, back in the day Pioneer had 8" woofers that had a bracket made to them so these would fit in a 6x9 hole. I saw a set of those at a car show in an international Scout and that was the first time I heard anything with real bass. Had to be in the late 70s.
I recently dug out an old Phase Linear that's similar to the Fosgate here. I believe it is rated around 45 watts / channel. It bumps pretty good considering it's over 35 years old. Will be installing it in a 64 Corvair van along with a 1980 vintage Sony cassette / am / fm head and a similar vintage EQ.
I had an old 75x2 Phoenix Gold amp from like '95 that thing hit so hard for such a tiny amp. Had it hooked up to 2 low end 12's. I was 16yr old and still look back remember how bad ass that lil guy was.
I had the Harmon Kardon HK260 IN ABOUT 86-87. Which was 2×60 at 4ohms & 2×80 at 2ohms or 180 at mono. It was black with big fins. I had it looked at by a tech repair place and he said it was one of the few he had seen with fosgate quality. I ran 2-12 mtx off a concord 550 deck.
Thank you Sir for providing us with all this top class content! Happy Thanksgiving from my family to yours! Keep putting in that work and subliminally convincing me to get my old GT and Dyno bikes restored!
I had a Haro just like that back in the day. I had them all at one point. Skyway, Hutch, Red Line, and the PK Ripper Those were the good ol' days when nothing else mattered except girls freestyle bikes and showing off at the half pipe in the back yard. Not a fear in the world. Just go for it and what happens, happens.
Top notch as always.... I need your help, if you can get your hands on a DB Drive Euphoria M2250 to test that would be great. They are 150 on eBay right now!!!
I Really like this look at old school amps. Thanks for what you do, very interesting content. How did the Coffin go on Halloween? Did you have it on the porch bumping spooky music for the kids?
If you ever get that TC 600 repaired, try it out on some components.. it can definitely kick and drive a system if you want it to but from what I remember those were really nice warm sounding amps to run on the highs. It's funny how the good products we heard as kids still stand out in our head when we see them again
I can't search your videos so I was wondering if you could tell me if you've ever tested a Mmatts amplifier? I bought one I have second-hand and original owner didn't know if it was a 1400 or 1200w d-series ...it does make good power (actually it seems to make too much power for my one scar Sundown replica subwoofer rated at higher power 15 or 2k). would be interesting to see how theirs amplifiers perform.
Can you do a video on the Rockville APA9 PA AMP, there a back and forth argument on wether it needs a pre amp or not, some people have said they have ran 18 inch pa speakers on it and some have said it wasn't enough watts to run a small speaker but none of them have the ability to actually test the true wattage! And are open to receiving amps to test for content and if so how do we go about sending them to you?
I just got a Rockford fosgate power 10000.1bd amp it isn't made anymore it looks older than the ones I see online but I found a picture of it on website called crutchfield and it's the same amp. It has to be at least 15 years old or more. Also got 2 Rockford fosgate t1 12 dual 4 ohm 600 watt rms subs they don't make them anymore they have to be at least 15 years old as well. They look metal on the front face of the cone

The JBL is my favorite on the list. So much engineering in that thing!
I'll be back to peep this after I cook dinner. I figure I would drop a support comment right away though. Hope you're well, BigD!

Love you, mean it!! Thanks bro!!
Absolutely love the JBL Crown amp!!!! Wish I could get my hands on one! As always another big hit from Big D!!!
Crown is known for stadium and concert amplifiers. I didn't know they had any of their stuff in car audio. It's pretty neat to see.
I pick up that big hk amp for 65 bucks. The guy said he did not know if it worked. Man oooo man clea. Clean power. Best 65 buck that I have ever spent
Now id like to see a compilation of blown amps. Great video Derreck!
Great idea!
I think the Shark was the most infamous, along with the insanity that directly came from that saga.
Thanks for the AWESOME memory by posting the screenshot of the 1990 Car Audio directory... that issue alone got me into Car Audio as a career

I love the vintage stuff. You should do a dyno test of the Sound Ordinance M350-1 mono amp. It’s a popular budget amp made by crutchfield’s in house brand but there is NO coverage of it anywhere online. I bet a lot of people would appreciate the video

While talking vintage, back in the day Pioneer had 8" woofers that had a bracket made to them so these would fit in a 6x9 hole. I saw a set of those at a car show in an international Scout and that was the first time I heard anything with real bass. Had to be in the late 70s.
I had a Rockford Fosgate 2100 from around 1979. It was OMG sound. I loved the remote eq.
That’s awesome 👏
Awesome vid as usual. Would love to see a USA 2000x dyno!
Badass collection man. Right on 😁👍👍
Love your vides brother. I've watched all of them some multiple times. lol
Woah there Hoss!!! Jerry's audio in nor cal carried kef in 1988 most popular were the 1 inch tweets while everyone else were making 3 inch tweets
😬👍
I recently dug out an old Phase Linear that's similar to the Fosgate here. I believe it is rated around 45 watts / channel. It bumps pretty good considering it's over 35 years old. Will be installing it in a 64 Corvair van along with a 1980 vintage Sony cassette / am / fm head and a similar vintage EQ.
Awesome 👏
Great News Bro!!! Right before watching your video, I got a great deal on a new roof! Lol
Great vid. I'd never seen that Kef amp before.
At the Toys for tots bass race in Pocatello Idaho this year a guy had the JBL 6000 powering his system was really cool to see a unicorn in the wild
This video was a great idea, thanks bud
Really cool. I little journey through a bit of car audio amplifier history
👌😬👍
I have see the quad box on the crazy JBL amp thanks keep'em coming I'll keep watching from Cincinnati
When the HK gets fixed, let's have a Dyno test
I had an old 75x2 Phoenix Gold amp from like '95 that thing hit so hard for such a tiny amp. Had it hooked up to 2 low end 12's. I was 16yr old and still look back remember how bad ass that lil guy was.
Nice video BigD
I had the Harmon Kardon HK260 IN ABOUT 86-87. Which was 2×60 at 4ohms & 2×80 at 2ohms or 180 at mono. It was black with big fins. I had it looked at by a tech repair place and he said it was one of the few he had seen with fosgate quality. I ran 2-12 mtx off a concord 550 deck.
Awesome 👏
What's good about these amplifiers is that the power ratings seem more realistic.
Nice! I just started this post on fb old school page 2 weeks ago. There are some cool pieces on there.
😬👍
Great videos , and testing all the way from the 313 💯🤟🏿 I need a demo of the bb2 planet audio 2400.1 3000 old skool 1
You need to get your hands on the Eclipse DA7232 amp. It was built by Bang & Olufson and it was a thing of beauty.
Thanks for a new video about audio!!
Nice look Big D keep up the good work sir
Ever had a Milbert BAM-230? What about some early Zapco amps? Adcom also made some cool car amps for a short time.
Thank you Sir for providing us with all this top class content! Happy Thanksgiving from my family to yours! Keep putting in that work and subliminally convincing me to get my old GT and Dyno bikes restored!
Now thats kicking it OLD SCHOOL RARE AMPS I AGREED.............
thanks for your vids an work creating them man
Nice collection....I knw u got more lol to show....I would like to see mine here one day...
Cool amps as allways another cool video thanks big D.
I had to send a TC600 to Harman back in 2000. No local repair place could figure it out. Turned out to be protection circuit.
Love to see the Nvx in action. That is a massive amp
Hell yes we wanna see the KEF amp dude
That is one beauty amp fo sho
I had a Haro just like that back in the day. I had them all at one point. Skyway, Hutch, Red Line, and the PK Ripper Those were the good ol' days when nothing else mattered except girls freestyle bikes and showing off at the half pipe in the back yard. Not a fear in the world. Just go for it and what happens, happens.
i love the well made a nd very informative vids.........BUT THAT HARO MASTER REALLY MADE MY DAY........!
😝👍
Top notch as always.... I need your help, if you can get your hands on a DB Drive Euphoria M2250 to test that would be great. They are 150 on eBay right now!!!
I Really like this look at old school amps. Thanks for what you do, very interesting content. How did the Coffin go on Halloween? Did you have it on the porch bumping spooky music for the kids?
The JBL although not super rare is just the coolest to me.
I concur with my boy.
If you ever get that TC 600 repaired, try it out on some components.. it can definitely kick and drive a system if you want it to but from what I remember those were really nice warm sounding amps to run on the highs. It's funny how the good products we heard as kids still stand out in our head when we see them again
It’s boxed up waiting to go out
I know it's not rare but I just got a MTX thunder 250x in mint condition from a 70 year old lady for 60 bucks.
What amp load you planning for jbl6000 and quad box does it do 1ohm bridge?
Woah man I’d do more DJ amps if I had a shop locally where I could borrow the amps
Can you do some old school Rockford fosgate speakers or Polk audios.
