Love your observations, very astute. Al Murray's accent is naturally 'received pronunciation' hailing from Oxfordshire, though for the Pub Landlord character he appropriates an East London/Essex Cockney accent like Warren Mitchell does in 'Till Death us do Part' which I think you might find amusing. Also love the Geordie accent, though I'm from London, and the Welsh. They both sing, as does the Scottish Lowlands.
I learnt most of what I know about the British Empire (not much) from the Flashman series of books by George MacDonald Fraser. An entertaining mix of fiction woven into Victorian imperial history.

The Pub Landlord character that he's playing is a boorish little Englander type who is intensely patriotic and a know-it-all. He's a very well liked comedian over here by both those who enjoy the satire and those who don't realise it's satire and think he "tells it like it is".
I'm From sweden and do appreciate british humor. This character of his never was my cup of tea so I thought I don't like Als style. And to be honest... Taskmaster isn't that much about education. It's more about finding a solution in a way that's almost cheating when it's the most fun. But hey, we all think different.
He was a bit off about Norway. Vikings settled Normandy, became Frenchified, and conquered England in 1066. So by extension, Britain is a Viking colony. Every Brit is secretly pining for the fjords.
