Our birth instructor told us that if I can still smile for the camera before walking out the door, we're not quite ready yet ;) it was a good indicator for my first birth. Due with number two in a month and a half!
That's probably a pretty good general rule for most, though I think all the individual details should factor into making that determination, rather than applying a hard and fast rule to the masses. In labor with my daughter, I was at 8cm (well into transition and not far from pushing) and my midwife literally said to me "You're WAAAY too happy to be at 8cm right now" and I was, I was cheerful and energized, chatting away about what food sounded good for afterwards. Contractions never did feel much more different than Braxton Hicks had for me; my uterus would get SUPER tight and rock hard, which made it difficult for my lungs to expand up against and I got really winded with contractions, but there really wasn't much in the way of an actual pain sensation. If I had been waiting at home until I couldn't smile through it, I'd have been having a baby in our living room!
My water broke at 8:30am and had my first contraction shortly after, we left for the hospital right away, I couldn’t walk or talk by the time I got to the hospital that was only 10 minutes away. They didn’t believe that my water had broke , they didn’t believe how much pain I was in and they didn’t want to check me because my contractions only started 20 minutes ago and it was my first baby. When they finally decided to check my cervix because I was screaming in pain I was 8cm dilated. My baby was born at 11:30 so I was only in labour for a total of 3 hours. It was really intense and scary.
4 days away from my due date with my 4th baby but planning to attempt my first totally unmedicated birth! Your videos are giving me courage. Thank you!

Did hypnobirth breaths at home from 3pm sunday To 10 am Monday. At 311 went to birth center. Had crazy pain during contractions, totally disconnected w outside works. When I arrived was found to be at 8cm dialated. From 10 to 1:55 pm pushed with very active, changed positions every 39 minutes. So it took me 4 hours to dialate 2 cm, and give birth at 1:55 pm. No one prepared me for the pain. I was in shock how painful it was. I think being in physical shock is what delayed the progression. Baby was 8 lb 10 oz. Regret not having a doula who knew hypnobirth but my doula was great in providing counter pressure

Im trying to figure out on when my husband should start our drive because our hospital is an hour away. Also i am gbs+ so i know ill need to start my first dose of antibiotics before a certain point, but i also dont want to go to the hospital early to just get turned away. Too much of a delimma.
I’m 37 weeks pregnant and my doctor said I am in early labor at 100% effaced and 1cm dilated as of 3 days ago. I get really painful cramps and feel like baby is pushing down, but I can’t tell if the cramp pains are the actual contractions - they do stop me in my tracks and I have to breathe through them
Hospitals generally want to administer antibiotics at least 4 hours before delivery. If it's your first pregnancy, you may be able to labor at home till you're in active labor, but if it's a subsequent birth, you might need to go in they have adequate time to administer it. I know moms who have had GBS and only had 2 hour labors before giving birth. Care providers work with what they've got, but I would CERTAINLY talk to your care provider about it!
Subscribed! Your vdos are so motivating and informative. I'm due in 2 wks and I want my baby to come just on time, not earlier. Then should I stop walking too much? My husband told me to stop walking as he understood that it'll accelerate the baby's birth. Is that true? I thought walking a lot is another way to help dilate faster during the labor, but it doesn't expedite the labor.. Your answer will be really helpful for us. Thank you
I have a appointment tomorrow i been having contractions since 3 it is now after 7 there still going on feeling pressure they are pretty far apart but very painful i can still talk through them i am still not dialting or water did not break
So my biggest question, what happens when you have an extremely high pain tolerance? I'm talking about like breaking bones and not realizing it for days, or having surgery wide awake... Ive had several instances where my doctors have over looked my pain because I'm not showing signs of actually hurting...
You definitely need to tell your doctor about this. I have a very high threshold for pain during labor, we r having our 6th now. J was told if I have any the tiniest thought that I'm in labor to come in
Emma Gilmer I was wondering about this as well. I have a higher than normal tolerance for pain. Not broken bones and not realizing it but definitely higher than average.
I have a question about VBACs. I’m trying for a VBAC with my second baby. How soon should I go to the hospital when I go into labor? I wasn’t sure if my labor would be fast or not, since I had an emergency c section with my last.
lol! With my 4th I woke up in transition, but didn’t really know. Cause I was still having conversations with my husband. He was the one who jumped out of bed after only counting 2 contractions. I said “let me just go to the bathroom real quick while you call” that was the end. I had the baby in the bathroom after being awake for 20 mins or so. I’m trying not to do that again with baby number 5 and trying to gage when best time to head to hospital would be for me. Haha
Using my husbands account. I'm on my 5th pregnancy and two weeks ago I was 2 1/2 cm dilated. I'm having more contraction and stronger I can barely walk. When I get my contraction I don't want no one near me nor no one to talk to me.I try to bare the pain.I'm 39 weeks going to 40 weeks on Monday.
Love your videos! The second one that you said was not true for me with my second... I was talking through my contractions (pain and all) till 10cm... Not with my first tho! 😬😬😬
Same! They kept telling me over the phone that it was too early and to stay home because I could walk and talk through labor. Then they got upset when I got to the hospital late and so far into labor 🤷🏻♀️ Now I’m on second pregnancy and have no clue when to go.
Meeee lol I had my baby 5 minutes after getting to the hospital and now this pregnancy I’m a little clueless when to go. I’m naturally a positive calm and happy person so I really did get through contractions pretty smoothly but seriously got scared I was going to have my baby in the car!
Im so confused i don't even know the difference from a contraction from my baby shifting. I went to the hospital and they said im 3cm dilated and 90% effaced. That was two days ago. How long will it take for my water to break now?
It's different for everyone, my water usually breaks during transition, except for with my fourth baby I sprung a leak high in amniotic sac, up towards my ribcage, I could feel it pop, about 2 hours into labor (4cm ish) but then I didn't get the full gush of water breaking until transition. With my first two kids it broke around 8cm, and with my third it broke as I was crowning. But I know people who their water broke and they didn't actually start labor for four hours.
My question is that my first baby was delivered through c-section in Nov 2021 and now i'm 28 weeks pregnant with my second baby, i asked my doctor for Vbac. Should i wait for 6cm dilation of cervix at home? And is there any chance of having successful vbac? Will be looking forward for your reply. Thank you #Bridget Teyler 🙂
It was similar with my mom. When she had my brother, she literally walked into the hospital, and the moment they admitted her, she felt the urge to push, and yelled for a doctor. Before she knew it, my brother just popped out. It wasn’t even an hour. But with me, there were a series of complications that resulted in me being born 18 hours later. That’s how I know I’m allergic to pitocin. 😬
Kourtnee Lynch I lived 10 mins and waited till the contractions were too hard to handle because I’d rather be at home than hospital for severe contractions
I love your videos you are the best thank you so much for all the informative information !!! I am scheduled to have baby boy this Friday ! I am 40 weeks. Hoping he comes before they induce me 😅
Hiii very encouraged by ur videos!! I am from lebanon middle east..it is not common to have doula's here..but we have midwives.. I'm 37 weeks preg with baby #2...had csection with first baby bcz I ddnt go into labor by 41 weeks I want a VBAC but Now my dr says my pelvis seems tight and cervix is deep..my baby is 3.4kg already at 37 weeks..she is saying she will do csec at 39 weeks..I'm so confused and feel unsure if I should just give up on a vbac
Don't give up! This is your body and your baby, it is your right to choose what happens. I had a C section with my first but really want to try a VBAC with my next. I think you should give it a try if it's what you want to do.
Thanks for the video.. just confused because at the beginning you mentioned during this stage women dilate from 3-6 then you said we dilate from 6-8 during this stage. Can you clarify which on iy is? TIA.
I know this is an old video, so i hope you see this but I have a question, you mentioned not being too rushed to go into the hospital unless it’s not your first birth, so for me- this is my second, BUT, I waited 5 years to have another. So will my body “know” or “remember” what to do? Or with all the time that has passed, do you think it would be a longer process like my first? Idk if my question makes sense, but every time I hear somebody say that, it confuses me because I feel like the fact that I waited so long to have another, that it’s going to be as if I’m having my first kid all over again. Like my body hasn’t done it in so long, it doesn’t really remember exactly what to do. Or does the amount of time that passes between each birth, not necessarily matter?
Every pregnancy is different. Your body may go quickly or very slowly. I would be more focused on your current health conditions than how many babies. I have had 10 babies and even the 10th waited til the due date, so did the rest except for 1 baby! Some labors were fast, only for inductions or acupressure. The other labors were days on end or all day and night, even the last ones. Again, just your body and what it is ready to do and when. Trust your body is testing to see how well you are handling the start of labor and how baby will handle it as well.
My doula had two children 9 years apart. She gave birth to her second within 4 hours. She explains that usually after the first one, childbirth tends to get quicker than the last. I hope this helps someone reading this.
Hi im 36week and 4 days and ive lost my mucus plug already but im bleeding a little but my contractions aren't as consistent, what should i do my midwife says its its normal but my other 4 pregnancy never been like this
the 4-1-1 rule basically means you are having contractions 4 minutes apart, lasting about 1 minute, over the course of 1 hour. It's a helpful in gauging how your contractions are progressing! Hope that answered your question!
@@BridgetTeyler 411 it such a good guide line. But I kinda giggle when I hear it:) because all my labours have been very different but once contractions start they are consistent, long and quick together. I’d say about 30-90seconds long and 30 to 90 seconds apart! Ocassionaly it might be 2-4 minutes in between. A very efficient uterus I guess. So I’m a bit jealous of those who get to relax, watch a movie, go for a walk...not for me! Once it started it was go time. So the tricky part of when to decide to go in to the hospital. I usually stay home for a bit, (and call my doctor)but my plans are I always want a hospital birth, so usually go soonish:) I enjoy hearing how everyone’s experiences are so unique! I’m enjoying your videos/information.
Nothing wrong with getting an epidural. Whole attitude like its something inadvisable or that women "break" and get one but the "strong" women get through without one. Ridiculous.
I hate the title "go to the hospital" Why are we so focused on going anywhere? Can we move away from hospital mindsets? We are coming into an age of homebirth being a priority again.
When she keeps saying "intense" when the word i think u mean is pain. But u probably don't wanna scare people like me who are scared to death of getting pregnant.

I have a question about VBACs. I’m trying for a VBAC with my second baby. How soon should I go to the hospital when I go into labor? I wasn’t sure if my labor would be fast or not, since I had an emergency c section with my last.
I'm in your shoes right now. 37 weeks. How did yours go?
So I ended up never going into active labor on my own. I actually had to be induced again and had a failed TOLAC. Ended up having another cesarean.
I hope it went better for you guys!
@@indigomoonchild6638 i am also hoping for a vbac. Did not go into labour with first baby.
Haha
Omg did you have contractions prior to transition
I'm due in a few days and I'm so happy for these videos.... thank you
Can you please activate subtitles on this video? Thanks! :)
"Hey, mommas..." Me, the dad, trying to get prepared to help my partner through stuff ha :') I guess I'm an honourary momma, too?
Using my husbands account.
I'm on my 5th pregnancy and two weeks ago I was 2 1/2 cm dilated.
I'm having more contraction and stronger I can barely walk. When I get my contraction I don't want no one near me nor no one to talk to me.I try to bare the pain.I'm 39 weeks going to 40 weeks on Monday.
Love your videos!
The second one that you said was not true for me with my second... I was talking through my contractions (pain and all) till 10cm...
Not with my first tho! 😬😬😬
Same here with my last two!
Same! They kept telling me over the phone that it was too early and to stay home because I could walk and talk through labor. Then they got upset when I got to the hospital late and so far into labor 🤷🏻♀️
Now I’m on second pregnancy and have no clue when to go.
Meeee lol I had my baby 5 minutes after getting to the hospital and now this pregnancy I’m a little clueless when to go. I’m naturally a positive calm and happy person so I really did get through contractions pretty smoothly but seriously got scared I was going to have my baby in the car!
Double hip squeeze. Please explain
Thank you so much Mam for sharing such informative content ❤ i wish i had watched your videos during my 1st pregnancy.
I’m currently having contractions 😩
First time momma here! Does the 411 run still apply if you live 2 hours from the hospital?
No you would need to go much sooner
Is there a certain time u can’t get an epidural
oh thank you so much for all the amazing tips and info! iam due in 3 days 💕 All this is making me feel more comfortable
What about tell you pendulas bally. Is it possible to normal delivery?
tienes un video de las medidas de confort para la segunda etapa
36 weeks I’m cramping and it feels like it’s lasting 20min-30min what does that mean?
Thank you, covid learning everything from RUclips
I am having my 3rd baby but it has been a while and I remember the pain I went through. Im terrified how do you handle labor anxiety?
Chamomile tea
My question is that my first baby was delivered through c-section in Nov 2021 and now i'm 28 weeks pregnant with my second baby, i asked my doctor for Vbac. Should i wait for 6cm dilation of cervix at home? And is there any chance of having successful vbac?
Will be looking forward for your reply.
Thank you #Bridget Teyler 🙂
It's not always that the first baby takes the longest, I have had 4 babies, the first 3 were from 5 to 7 hours the 4th was 12 hours 🤔
Hi m 39+3days n lost mucus plug 7day ago n still not having the strong labour
I live 30 mins from the Hosptial, should I still make my way to the Hosptial at the 4-1-1 rule?
Kourtnee Lynch I lived 10 mins and waited till the contractions were too hard to handle because I’d rather be at home than hospital for severe contractions
I love your videos you are the best thank you so much for all the informative information !!! I am scheduled to have baby boy this Friday ! I am 40 weeks. Hoping he comes before they induce me 😅
Hiii very encouraged by ur videos!! I am from lebanon middle east..it is not common to have doula's here..but we have midwives..
I'm 37 weeks preg with baby #2...had csection with first baby bcz I ddnt go into labor by 41 weeks
I want a VBAC but Now my dr says my pelvis seems tight and cervix is deep..my baby is 3.4kg already at 37 weeks..she is saying she will do csec at 39 weeks..I'm so confused and feel unsure if I should just give up on a vbac
Don't give up! This is your body and your baby, it is your right to choose what happens. I had a C section with my first but really want to try a VBAC with my next. I think you should give it a try if it's what you want to do.
Would you recommend using the purple butt line as an indicator for when to go?
Have you ever been pet of a home birth water birth?Any tips
I haven't yet, but will have one in October... I'm so excited! I can give you tips then! When are you due?
I due end of October thanks
2 days to go ... no pains yet it second time
1:29 does the 511 rule apply if you had a c section for your first child and having a vbac for the second one?
Thanks for the video.. just confused because at the beginning you mentioned during this stage women dilate from 3-6 then you said we dilate from 6-8 during this stage. Can you clarify which on iy is? TIA.
When you move from prodromal labor to active labor you move from a 3 to a 6. During active labor. You move from 6 to an 8. Does that make sense?
@@annarocha3254 Yes, ty!
What is a care provider?
A care provider will be your OBGYN or Midwife that works at hospital or birth center you're birthing at!
What do you do if you are having less than five minute contractions but you are not dilating and your water is not breaking
I'm 39 weeks
Your energy is so calming, I wish you were my doula😭😭
This is my 3rd baby and we live 45 minutes from the hospital.. so I’m watching to know when I should go. 😂
I was dilated to almost a 4 a few days ago.
❤thank you🤰🧘♀️
I know this is an old video, so i hope you see this but I have a question, you mentioned not being too rushed to go into the hospital unless it’s not your first birth, so for me- this is my second, BUT, I waited 5 years to have another.
Thats the same question i have... Ive waited 11 yrs to have another baby

Hyy I am first time mom now I am 36 week 1 day pregnant I can't walk anymore now tell me I am in labour I feeling pain in my legs my back my tummy
Hi im 36week and 4 days and ive lost my mucus plug already but im bleeding a little but my contractions aren't as consistent, what should i do my midwife says its its normal but my other 4 pregnancy never been like this
You should probably go to the hospital to get checked just in case
When you are bleeding ,please call your doctor
I looooove your videos
Watching this video while in stage 1 of labor with my second child.... lol
Phases of labour? Gaps in contraction? 😂😂 My body gives the bloody show, and intense contractions start immediately! 😂😂
What does it mean 411 row??
the 4-1-1 rule basically means you are having contractions 4 minutes apart, lasting about 1 minute, over the course of 1 hour. It's a helpful in gauging how your contractions are progressing! Hope that answered your question!
@@BridgetTeyler thankyou 👍

Hi. Life and everything in in is created by God himself. The son of him, Jesus, forgave all of all things. Breathe in air.
I'm not a momma:/
Not pregnant. Don't plan to be. But I'm tryna be educated 🫡
Same here
Nothing wrong with getting an epidural. Whole attitude like its something inadvisable or that women "break" and get one but the "strong" women get through without one. Ridiculous.
I hate the title "go to the hospital"
Why are we so focused on going anywhere?
Can we move away from hospital mindsets?
We are coming into an age of homebirth being a priority again.
Unfortunately, in some countries homebirths are illegal...
37weeks n mucus plug coming out
When she keeps saying "intense" when the word i think u mean is pain. But u probably don't wanna scare people like me who are scared to death of getting pregnant.
