Thajra is a character I've been wanting to talk about for along time now, she is a character who has stuck with me in the back of my mind since I first played Awakening and while I don't think she's been given the best treatment over the years in her many appearances since her creation. Also I initially planned to release this video around the beginning of the month but due to countless delays for multiple reasons, it kept getting pushed back! But finally it's finished. Apologizes for how long this took!

Neat a Tharja video, didn’t see this coming. I think Tharja’s pretty cool, I like the idea that even though she’s fighting with the the good guys she’s not exactly good herself. I also like her obsession with Robin because she claims that it transcends anything physical or emotional and later on you find out it’s because Robin is technically her god

She is a good person.
She cares for other, feels horrible when innocent are hurt, does not abuse her powers on people, helps them. More impoertantly, she shpws compassion, emphaty, care for stranger and family alike.
She has a Heart - An aspect of a good person.
Being a jerk is not the same as being a bad person. Actions and reactions to own actions are equally important.
Bad people don't have Hearts.
There is plenty good in her, you just have to do some digging for it. She’s one of the more complicated characters since she does care for her Allies and her family and even sacrifices herself to protect Noire. But subjecting said family to curses is pretty fucked up

From what I heard these curses are more nuscance than harm. It is just jerkish, at worst, more than anything.
She has Good in the middle of her soul. Everything aroud is purely surface level.
Remember the Wisdom of old tales, cartoons.
Tharja isn't a Grimleal, she could care less about Grima.
I love the fact that you mentioned Rhajat and how she is basically the blueprint for tharja’s flanderization since I think that fates really did dirty their three awakening reworks (not counting the child units since they are the same characters but adults now) I am a huge fan of gaius but when playing fates, what they did to asugi really felt as if they read the main thing that made gaius unique and decided that only that would matter, even if his conflict with Saizo is interesting I felt that the way he spoke with everybody else was literally someone who only read one or two things about gaius without really dwelling into his personality, same as I felt with Rhajat.
They weren’t unique enough to feel like they gave something to the game but they didn’t get their original characters to make awakening fans like them

I think what got me to like her so much was that she was obsessed with your character from the start. Some of her Supports still reference her interest to the MC, so I took that as a sign to put her up with Robin at every opportunity to see what would happen. So by the time her S-Support came around, she had already won the Wife spot in my soul, and that hasn’t changed in 10 years.

I got her gist before. And later saw the depth of Camilla too. But seeing her compared to Metera... good lord have they taken her too far from her original self.
Its pretty crazy how many people just put tharja as some obsessed yandere abusive mom in the fanbase. At first I thought she was some fan service yandere but over the course of the game and interactions I enjoyed the character of tharja I literally told a few friends that shes not some crazy anime yandere and its only that some fans label her as that. I remember some fan made a comic of tharja helping robin find out the problems in robins mind and she looks into robins mind to feel grimas presence in Robin. It sucks that some don't take time to look into the characters and just see them just by design and the personality they show at first

I feel that a big part of Tharja's flanderization on emphasizing her more negative traits is due to people boiling her down by focusing on what's immediately apparent in her characterization as opposed to looking more deeply into who she actually is. I think this happens a lot when people discuss Fire Emblem characters, especially those from Awakening and Fates, and part of this is ignorance in my opinion; and I feel that there are other characters such as Sophie and Asugi in Fates that people get wrong because of this mindset, as the former I've heard described as simply being "girl with horse" and that her horse, Avel, has more "personality" than she does, while the latter tends to be viewed as being a much sillier and more sweet obsessed version of Gaius. Personally, I think these descriptions are untrue and show that people don't understand their true character traits that make them who they are; and the same applies to Tharja, as people who judge her as being sexy, Robin obessesed, and abusive towards Noire are not seeing the full picture, which leads to her becoming flanderized the way she has been
@@matthewkuscienko4616 Yeah, her more particular attitude towards things is few and far between. Like with her kindness towards unfortunate/sad situations of Libra/Nowi. Libra's hard childhood made Tharja pause for a bit because it reminded her of when she was younger too. Nowi was interested in knowing how her parents were, but Tharja chose not to tell her the whole truth due to her being secretly compassionate for others in her own way. I thought that was a really sweet moment, despite it being bittersweet that we know the truth.
I’d absolutely love to see more FE content from this channel. Tharja is definitely a character who suffers from success, often being boiled down by the community as little more than “she’s hot.”
I mean, she IS hot - you can't really debate that. But she's also a deep character, that's why she's great. Best of both worlds!

This was a love letter to both Tharja and those of us who actually got to know her and understand her as a person. This video was genuinely beautiful thank you.
While heroes has completely ruined the identity of her character it has been nice to she her in classes she never would normally class into.
It may have taken me 3 playthroughs to finally get to know her and marry her it was worth it to break through that cold exterior and see such a beautiful person both physically and mentally. She's always gonna be one of my favorite characters.
Nice to see someone actually talking about the series beyond surface level story dissections. Conversations are such a deep dive for even a single character so good on you for digging deep.
Best girl. It's a shame that most media outside of Awakening forgot about what makes her so interesting in the first place.

The sudden coldness, being more focused on herself above others and hexing testing behaviors with some regret are pretty spot for someone who has abandonment issues due to her past experiences
its something Ive experienced firsthand with my first partner and its all very close to home, they really did seem to nail that aspect in their own way

I think the reason I ever got into the Fire Emblem series was because of Tharja and how well she was written in Awakening
She is pretty cool. While I get most people focus on the fanservice aspect, the choice in attire I always thought was more her culture rather than looking to attract a possible victim for her hexes, even though she could probably trick any fool into becoming her guinea pig. Heck, her bitterness at times I think can be pretty endearing, but mainly because she seems to wear her honesty on her sleeves at times. Solid lass, and a powerful dark mage.
Yeah, I did appreciate her bluntness. She also knows when to pull back that side of her when it could come off as too much like in her support with Nowi.
Meti it would be phenomenal if you did one of these on Ike, Sigurd and Arvis from FE4, Hector, Soren, Jill, Finn, Donnel, Tiki, Alm and so many others, your writing style is amazing and it would be sick if you went in-depth on their characters.

This was great, Tharja was my favorite Awakening Character for a long while, and I always felt like she was both loved and hated for all the wrong reasons.
I can't express the number of times I've had to explain her character to friends who just didn't interact with her much in Awakening.
Especially the whole her being weird with lewd stuff and physical compliments, that's something that I've noticed a lot of fanworks just about never get right.
Not that I can complain considering that IS Themselves hasn't done the best job with her characterization post Awakening
Finally, a video that isn't just "Tharja hot 🤩🥰❤️❤️❤️", but instead we get a dive-in about her as an addition to the Shepherds' army and her involvement with others within.
Honestly the way you describe her personality and her behavior does make her sound like a pure tsundere.😹

Short throw in regarding Tharja B-day, basically a Japanese lesson: The way you pronounced it is Shinai (which literally means "not die"). What you mean is on the screen is Shini (spoken shee-nee) which is more on the cursed side of things.
Thank you for that, yeah my pronunciation is really bad most of the time which is why I try to have the Japanese on the screen to help correct me in the future. Thank you again!

Tharja is honestly fantastic. Her upbringing was hard as any plegian would and she could have been boring or creepy but they put work into her character and the writers did great work. She's what an obessesive yandere waifu should be done knowing deep down they actually care also amazing design

@@spiralgodking9877 reminds me of when I went though every conversation twice to get the hidden story within awakening. I called grima being a mix of divine and an evolution of dark dragon long before echoes came out and later engage. It was cool.
Tharja yeah the more you read the more you see her layers and her later versions are still fun to see a fee aspects of her here and there.

I have no shame in admitting that I try to distant myself from Robin, just so that any and all interactions feel less awkward, but it makes me wanna toss him at Tharja for the first time in lord knows how long.
Though, his heart will forever belong to Cordelia in my eyes.
Most people refuse to see a character beyond the surface level, that is a shame since they may miss something valuable to them. I somewhat relate to Tharja..having a cold and distant outer shell since birth...you get used to it. Really enjoyed this video, I wouldn't mind seeing more Fire Emblem content. Definitely helped changed my perspective on Tharja's character, as it was most definitely later iterations of her in Heroes and what not that made me a bit turned off and wondered why so many enjoyed this character, and thankfully this analysis on her in awakening opened my eyes to a genuinely interesting character arc.

to be honest with you i love all the lore dives and analysis that you do to be incredibly entertaining. I am not a player/reader of most of the series you cover on the channel (this channel got me into chainsaw man after all), but your dedication and thoughtfulness in your scripts is always a pleasure to listen too.

I was just on a Fire Emblem marathon of other videos! Cool!
One of the great things to me about Awakening is how it makes your choices about what characters have supports with each feel special to you. In any non-lunatic+ playthrough, I always have Tharja marry Libra because I think their A and S support are very sweet, and I think their ending with the orphanage is cute. The exception is during the playthroughs where I play as male Robin, where I have her marry him instead because God Damn it I love her. She's one of my favorite characters alongside Chrom. If the game allowed me, I would just have Chrom, Tharja, and Robin form a polycule because I guess I'm just that kind of shipper lol.
