I've always headcanoned Quanxi is the "Predator/Hunter devil", representing the fear of predators and being hunted by dangerous animals or people, and using crossbows and arrows was a popular weapon to hunting animals.
That’s probably where the fear/strength of the crossbow devil comes from. I’d imagine it’d be the same with Pochita, where chainsaws are primarily associated with psycho murderers and gruesome deaths. Which I guess is why Pochita is so strong, since he essentially represents the fear of being torn to bits by a psycho.

I just remembered and noticed that makima can hold her liquor is because she has a hacked control over her tolerance, it was also a flag that she was not human because of how much she drank, its cool that she challenged them knowing they had no chance, its ironic that it probably wasnt the liquor influencing them, it was her, just a random thought.

I think there is a second meaning to the advice Quanxi gives Kashibe and why he chose to follow it. Because by remaining ignorant of Makima and by not looking at her obliterating his former buddy, he can maintain an ignorance that will keep him from fearing Makima, giving him a chance against her. Ignorance is bliss, because it also represents a life without fear. Kashi seems to maintain a level of disinterest psychologically despite being motivated to hunt down and exterminate devils, I think this is his tactic to ensure he does not empower any devil he confronts with his own fear.
Given the surrounding context of Quianxi and her other fiends, Pingtsi might be a devil of gossip/misinformation/rumors/broken confidentiality/etc. Even if the little facts she shared aren't lies and rumors, they're shared in a similar way to how information could be leaked through casual conversations. It's pretty vague, but I can see how it would be something humans would worry about and fear enough to result in a devil being born of it, especially with modern era making it so much easier to spread knowledge and misinformation.
Pingsti could also be the devil of spying and information warfare. The Cold War gave a lot of paranoia to being spied on and having information leaked when it wasn't nukes.

I think her polyamory lies in falling in love with parts of herself she's lost in her profession. The suture devil--her wounded, vulnerable side Cosmos devil--thirst for knowledge Pingtzi--her talkative side Dragon devil Long--her passionate side And she falls in love with other women that remind her of her origins and how she used to be. They provide her with senses of familiarity before she started devil hunting and early on in her career. Even though she's such a badass in her profession, I consider her a victim of burnout and it shows how insidious burnout is. The burnout didn't affect her work, but it along with her experiences may have affected her spirit. She literally turned herself into a weapon, a machine, so she wouldn't have to think about aspects she doesn't want to. It also shows that trauma and ptsd doesn't always look like anger, sadness, fear, nightmares, etc. Sometimes, they become a mix of hard and hallow like Quinxi. Her PTSD may even explain why she prefers the company of fiends or at least finds it easier to connect with them, but we're moving into territory where it would take a while for me to explain. I find her a tragic character and she foreshadows tragedy for devil hunters long in their profession. Crossbow devil is fitting. It's a deadly weapon and it's easy to operate so it is fitting and representative of Quanxi who doesn't like to think too much. I'd also like to point out that in her devil form, she is reminiscent of a porcupine which is reflective back to her PTSD and the effort to shield her mind.

One of the first things he says when you encounter him is; “You're sure to be in a fine haze about now, but don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do!” Cosmo representing cosmic horror and insanity inducing knowledge relates to big parts of Bloodborne’s story too. I wonder if Fujimoto has ever played Bloodborne and if these minor similarities are entirely coincidental or not.
Considering how much He seesm to like Beserk and Elderitch Horror plus how mess up the Lore of the Souls series is + how open Ended it is I'm incline to believe even If Quanxi semblence to Gehrman was an accident He probably play enough of the Souls series
the fact that quanxi was all about ignorance is bliss and when denji finally tries to embody that statement, and he was punished for it by the death of his new family. ignorance is bliss, but every character we see try to live that to it's extreme get punished every time. the same way the characters who kept searching for unlimited information were also punished.
I love how Chainsaw Man just looks super cool and awesome on the surface but you can actually dig beneath the surface about all these deep themes about knowledge and happiness and all kinds of stuff. Fujimoto is really something else.
There's also something to be said of Quanxi's connection to Journey to the West. Most obviously is how her name connects to the Bodhisattva Quanyin, which she shares the Quan- part of their names, as well as the x-y in the english translation of their names. The letters x and y are generally seen as opposites in math, which represents how Quanxi is an ignorant slave to the cycles of life and death, while Quanyin has literally achieved enlightenment. There's also the parallel between the Journey to the WEST, and Quanxi travelling EAST, delving deeper into her ignorance along with her "disciples." Quanxi's girlfriends also share parallels between the (technically) 4 disciples of Tripitaka, the protagonist of Journey to the West, a dragon that takes the form of a horse (heh), a carefree idiot that hides horrific power, a stoic, mysterious and completely loyal disciple associated with the color green, and a talkative paper tiger who gets everyone else in trouble with their overconfidence. I think about Quanxi way to much and I really want her to get some character development in Part 2 lol, hoped you appreciated this little essay born from a fan girl's shower thoughts.
quanxi is such a good character, she’s cool, has a sick devil design, has a really interesting backstory in the story and in relation to kishibe and public service in general, and represents an important theme in the story. really wish we got more of her.
quanxi's title might have 3 meanings, actually 1st is the first "devil hunter", first in the profession 2nd is the first "devil" hunter, utilizing devils while being a hunter, the 2nd presented meaning in the video 3rd is the "first devil" hunter, she has hunted the first devil to exist and succeeded, which could be a massive achievement

I like to call her the hunter devil. Being the first devil hunter helps, using arrows is synonymous with hunting. She has traits of a hunter, the ability not to make a sound and be invisible to its target. Plus the idea of being hunted is a much bigger fear than a crossbow or bow in and of itself with how powerful she was.
Question: Are all the hybrids actually dead or were they just controlled by Makima? Because Reze was impaled and Quan'Xi decapitated, yes, but we've seen them take far greater amounts of damage and be fine after that. Makima needed to prove to herself that she was superior to them by defeating them, but after that could she summon them even after death or did she need to keep them alive for this to work? To sum that up, can we expect to see a comeback of Reze, Quan'Xi and Katana Man in part 2 or they were just "talking corpses" controlled by Makima and now that she's gone they're gone for good?
There's no way to be sure, although they were clearly under Makima's influence mentally speaking. But Fujimoto being the writer of this story, I kinda doubt they have survived the disappearance of the first Makima : perhaps I'll be proven wrong (yet completely marvick, it's still a battle shonen after all, contrarily to Fire Punch), but I'd say he's not likely to be tender with them, they must be either dead, mentally disabled or in a catatonic state. If they're dead, there's a possibility they ressurect under a similar form, but I wouldn't hope for much more

QUANXI seemed ridiculously OP, especially in the buddy stories novel, she killed 100 Kishibes with ease and high precision in under a minute. I don't get why she didn't escape with her fiends with that speed.
I saw her devil form as moreso The Hunter Devil. Everyone has had times where the feel like they're being watched and many people experience nightmares of being chased/hunted. Crossbow/Arrow makes a bit more sense from her design.
Always thought she is the Hunt Devil. The fear of Hunters and being hunted. Arrows are her weapon as a symbol to Arthemis. The greek goddess of the hunt.

I think Pingtsi and Cosmo share a kind of duality. Like Pingtsi is constantly babbling off information but its all incoherent and useless; while Cosmo can barely communicate at all but is basically omniscient. Cosmo represents feigned ignorance with hidden knowledge, and Pingtsi represents feigned knowledge with hidden ignorance.

I think that both "information" devils represent very well Quanxi's view of the world, ignorance is a bliss, because she knows the horrors of knowledge, it can also be understood as knowledge is a curse, and that's what the Cosmos Devil represents.

I would be interested in a video like this dissecting Kishibe's character. I'm terribly curious about him and how strong he actually is. When Kishibe fought Quanxi he was momentarily overwhelmed but ultimately unharmed so I really wonder how a serious fight between these two would have went. I mean there's gotta be a reason why he is called "the strongest devil hunter"... so far he hasn't really shown feats that would suggest that title but then again he never really went all out until now. I honestly can't wait to hopefully see more of him in Part 2.
Fun little tidbit about Pope Innocent II and his hatred of the crossbow: The reason the weapon was considered so hateful and dangerous was because of how quickly and easily someone could become an extremely effective combatant with it, and its effective performance against the chain mail armor of the 1100's, while bows tended to struggle at anything beyond close range. Combine that with the incredibly easy mass production of crossbows due to having a metal bow as opposed to a wooden one, and you can understand why the Pope would hate and fear them, and try to spread those feelings about them.

I think the theme with Denji is that he was neglected this world, the world of a comfortable life and normal human relationships, thats why when he gets ito that world he wants to learn, to know hows it like to have a friend, to have a family, to have a girlfriend, he tried learning alongside Makima, but things ended up falling apart, so he decided to stop thinking by himself, Makima reveals to him that she doesnt want him to be happy or think by himself, and so he does - That is, until Pochita remembers Denji's dreams and makes him wanna follow em again, keep experiencing, keep learning the way the world works and accomplish what he truly wants. So yeah, Quanxi is kind of the opposite to Denji in that way imo

A thing about the Cosmos Devil’s Library, is that the design might come from Kamen Rider. Specifically Kamen Rider W’s Gaia Library, which is a endless void filled with rows upon rows of bookshelves in an orderly fashion rather than the Chaotic mess of Babel.

I noticed that all hybrids the we know have atleast a little empathy with devils/friends (Quanxi, Denji and the Samurai sword guy)

the fact that quanxi was all about ignorance is bliss and when denji finally tries to embody that statement, and he was punished for it by the death of his new family. ignorance is bliss, but every character we see try to live that to it's extreme get punished every time. the same way the characters who kept searching for unlimited information were also punished.
I love how Chainsaw Man just looks super cool and awesome on the surface but you can actually dig beneath the surface about all these deep themes about knowledge and happiness and all kinds of stuff. Fujimoto is really something else.

Quanxi’s introduction was the most unexpected thing to see while reading
There's also something to be said of Quanxi's connection to Journey to the West. Most obviously is how her name connects to the Bodhisattva Quanyin, which she shares the Quan- part of their names, as well as the x-y in the english translation of their names. The letters x and y are generally seen as opposites in math, which represents how Quanxi is an ignorant slave to the cycles of life and death, while Quanyin has literally achieved enlightenment. There's also the parallel between the Journey to the WEST, and Quanxi travelling EAST, delving deeper into her ignorance along with her "disciples." Quanxi's girlfriends also share parallels between the (technically) 4 disciples of Tripitaka, the protagonist of Journey to the West, a dragon that takes the form of a horse (heh), a carefree idiot that hides horrific power, a stoic, mysterious and completely loyal disciple associated with the color green, and a talkative paper tiger who gets everyone else in trouble with their overconfidence. I think about Quanxi way to much and I really want her to get some character development in Part 2 lol, hoped you appreciated this little essay born from a fan girl's shower thoughts.

quanxi is such a good character, she’s cool, has a sick devil design, has a really interesting backstory in the story and in relation to kishibe and public service in general, and represents an important theme in the story. really wish we got more of her.
quanxi's title might have 3 meanings, actually
1st is the first "devil hunter", first in the profession
2nd is the first "devil" hunter, utilizing devils while being a hunter, the 2nd presented meaning in the video
3rd is the "first devil" hunter, she has hunted the first devil to exist and succeeded, which could be a massive achievement
hunting down the "first devil" would also make her the first "devil hunter" tho
I feel that last one probably isn’t it because a child with a chainsaw dog killed a devil by himself without any injuries so I bet normal people kill devils on the regular

I like to call her the hunter devil. Being the first devil hunter helps, using arrows is synonymous with hunting. She has traits of a hunter, the ability not to make a sound and be invisible to its target. Plus the idea of being hunted is a much bigger fear than a crossbow or bow in and of itself with how powerful she was.
Quanxis name may also be a reference to a female deity and creator of worlds from Chinese mythology.

Question: Are all the hybrids actually dead or were they just controlled by Makima? Because Reze was impaled and Quan'Xi decapitated, yes, but we've seen them take far greater amounts of damage and be fine after that.
Makima needed to prove to herself that she was superior to them by defeating them, but after that could she summon them even after death or did she need to keep them alive for this to work?
To sum that up, can we expect to see a comeback of Reze, Quan'Xi and Katana Man in part 2 or they were just "talking corpses" controlled by Makima and now that she's gone they're gone for good?
There's no way to be sure, although they were clearly under Makima's influence mentally speaking. But Fujimoto being the writer of this story, I kinda doubt they have survived the disappearance of the first Makima : perhaps I'll be proven wrong (yet completely marvick, it's still a battle shonen after all, contrarily to Fire Punch), but I'd say he's not likely to be tender with them, they must be either dead, mentally disabled or in a catatonic state. If they're dead, there's a possibility they ressurect under a similar form, but I wouldn't hope for much more

QUANXI seemed ridiculously OP, especially in the buddy stories novel, she killed 100 Kishibes with ease and high precision in under a minute. I don't get why she didn't escape with her fiends with that speed.

I saw her devil form as moreso The Hunter Devil. Everyone has had times where the feel like they're being watched and many people experience nightmares of being chased/hunted. Crossbow/Arrow makes a bit more sense from her design.

I think Pingtsi and Cosmo share a kind of duality. Like Pingtsi is constantly babbling off information but its all incoherent and useless; while Cosmo can barely communicate at all but is basically omniscient. Cosmo represents feigned ignorance with hidden knowledge, and Pingtsi represents feigned knowledge with hidden ignorance.

I think that both "information" devils represent very well Quanxi's view of the world, ignorance is a bliss, because she knows the horrors of knowledge, it can also be understood as knowledge is a curse, and that's what the Cosmos Devil represents.
the Chinese guan xi just means relationship, you would use it in saying "what's her relationship to you?" it doesn't really mean favour, it can be any kind of relationship, familial, romantic, friendly, working
also if anyone was wondering how to pronounce her name, it would be something like chee-yuan (you an) see
I would be interested in a video like this dissecting Kishibe's character. I'm terribly curious about him and how strong he actually is. When Kishibe fought Quanxi he was momentarily overwhelmed but ultimately unharmed so I really wonder how a serious fight between these two would have went. I mean there's gotta be a reason why he is called "the strongest devil hunter"... so far he hasn't really shown feats that would suggest that title but then again he never really went all out until now. I honestly can't wait to hopefully see more of him in Part 2.

Fun little tidbit about Pope Innocent II and his hatred of the crossbow: The reason the weapon was considered so hateful and dangerous was because of how quickly and easily someone could become an extremely effective combatant with it, and its effective performance against the chain mail armor of the 1100's, while bows tended to struggle at anything beyond close range. Combine that with the incredibly easy mass production of crossbows due to having a metal bow as opposed to a wooden one, and you can understand why the Pope would hate and fear them, and try to spread those feelings about them.

It's funny how Chinese characters in manga have their name written in Hiragana, because if the author used Kanji, readers would just pronounce it in Japanese.

I think the theme with Denji is that he was neglected this world, the world of a comfortable life and normal human relationships, thats why when he gets ito that world he wants to learn, to know hows it like to have a friend, to have a family, to have a girlfriend, he tried learning alongside Makima, but things ended up falling apart, so he decided to stop thinking by himself, Makima reveals to him that she doesnt want him to be happy or think by himself, and so he does - That is, until Pochita remembers Denji's dreams and makes him wanna follow em again, keep experiencing, keep learning the way the world works and accomplish what he truly wants. So yeah, Quanxi is kind of the opposite to Denji in that way imo

Quanxi's hybrid form reminds me of the Chu-Ko-Nu - the ancient Chinese crossbow that was known for being fast (compared to other crossbows at least)

A thing about the Cosmos Devil’s Library, is that the design might come from Kamen Rider. Specifically Kamen Rider W’s Gaia Library, which is a endless void filled with rows upon rows of bookshelves in an orderly fashion rather than the Chaotic mess of Babel.
I know this is kinda late but the crossbow thing makes sense as in southeast Asia we don't have many guns but instead local gangs would use crossbows or pistol crossbows to some effective extent
