It's not that the anime as it exists now is bad - I'd just really like to see the full story animated like Fullmetal Alchemist got.
Blackstar being so good he reverses what is known before kid even starts. I really like that line about blakstar helping subaki shine being the opposite of all other wielders in the show.

when I watched this show for the first time I was a huge fan of Soul. his constant striving for "COOL" but also actively redefining what "COOL" is. and I very much appreciate that Soul insists that "After all cool men don't cheat on their partners, do they?" that being said. I was a very death the kid kid. I don't have his overactive OCD... but... I had my own crippling mental health issues getting in the way of my ideals. and I was a very black and white person as a teen.
When I got my first tastes of anime in early high school, Soul Eater (and Hellsing a little later) did irreparable damage to my teenage psyche- other shows and Manga have come and gone, but I think abt Soul Eater constantly. Thank you for this trip down memory lane
Bleach is not peak.. how many times can someone get cut with a sword lose what looks like every drop of there blood fall then fight again and again... cool idea but story was not their strong point. Cool characters is bleach

Hell hea~ Finally, someone who agrees that Soul Eater is a magical girl manga + 1:32:48 interesting take; I read the soul wavelength abilities/soul types as militarized descriptions of... Personality traits. As opposed to something like a Naruto chakra nature. I.e. Maka "having" a grigori soul is just another way of saying; Maka is a steadfastly earnest, indomitable, kind, self directed, and fastidious person. In a world like theirs, and even our own, those sorts of people are pretty rare. Soul Eater's magic system is rooted in personal connection & communication between varying personalities though, so in a world where literal personality traits are weapons, certain personality types would be categorized and studied enough to get specified names. As opposed to another power system where a power is more seperate from the psyche of a character.
I think out of all the characters in the soul eater anime Giriko is my favorite. He was the original Chainsaw man before Denji and the way he fights is so cool. The way he uses his chains on his legs to saw through people and skate across the ground is so sick. With all that in mind my favorite scene of him is when he gets into the car with Spider witch and he just saws the roof off because he wanted some air. I heard Giriko does more than he does in the anime in the manga. Specifically turning into a woman and idk how to feel about that. Still want Soul Eater to get the FMA Brotherhood treatment. The way the Anime ended was really bad.

God Soul Eater is so good it's actually somewhat underrated by anime only watchers since the manga does a much better job of telling the overall story of Soul Eater and it's themes
I still disagree with many of the points from the Fire Force video. Even in this one, I don't agree that the women in Fire Force are as thin as cardboard in terms of personality or characterization. I think Iris, Haumea and Hibana are some of the best characters he's ever written. I do agree that the strawman was cringe af though. I think he didn't even understand what many people were upset about. I really like the whole video but I do think Ohkubo has upped his game in a lot of aspects in Fire Force. Soul Eater still has the better cast but Fire Force tackles more interesting concepts and has a more interesting setting (imo) so I prefer Fire Force over Soul Eater.

Fascinating to hear how much more there was than just cool action and music. I tried it back then, but quit halfway through episode 3 because no amount of interest in one of the pairs could counter Death the Kid's existence. He was like nails on a chalkboard to me. Knowing he doesn't STAY like that makes me want to give it another shot. Just on the outset this seemed like the kind of show that wouldn't meaningfully change him, good to know that was wrong.. I'll slap this back on my "to watch" list, I was in the mood for some 2000's nostalgia anyway. I always got the feeling that black star was safeish from madness solely because he didn't drive himself out of fear but simply he always was mad enough to believe in himself a no matter What a different safer more positive kind of madness compared to the lust for power safety and dominance the kishin had.

This is a really incredible video on soul eater! And I have to say I completely agree about the souring feelings towards Okubo. Growing up and deciding to read the manga and seeing how he treats his female characters made me REEL. It’s so agitating and I completely agree on the point of feeling embarrassed recommending it. I love soul eater so much and it’s so frustrating seeing him being a gooner bleeds through and just disrupts so much of what makes soul eater good.

I was an anime-only, watched SE as a kid. Most of the fan service has left ny memory, and I had hoped that the manga was not as bad as Fire Force, incomparable in the Gooning Ohkubo had done in writing. I guess I was half-wrong. Still love SE

i enjoyed the vedeo, some really good perspectives to but you have a tendency to assume a baseline of knowladge that might not be there. most prominent was the hedgehog dilemma. arachnophobia being destoyed when it wasnt established as arachnes organisation in your video to but these are nitpics. overall the argumentation was solid and the essey a joy to listen to.
Good video, great analysis but I do feel the segment on how pervy the author is was mostly too steered toward personal taste. Like comi g from a gay guy I do admit the hero bits were him at his worst but the boobs bits are so extreme that they are camp and the emphasis on the authors self indulgences feels more like a judgement on the author than anything tangible on the story

Soul Eater is an enigma for my heart. It's flawed. Pretty far from the lvl of the best of Shounnen. Yet it is the only manga reread in full after a post anime follow up reading. It really got a tight grip on my heart despite it's failings & missteps
As with all works that go BIG and jave the pressure of the industry is no doubt how Sould ester got a stained pink ending MHA just suffer the same fate 10 times And fire force is clear the author is there to get food on his table And not much more So he did what he learn people like, character only needed superficial depth and aestetic with action sells The author already wrote the story they wanted after all
