Going by base damage doesn't do a lot of weapons justice. Chance's knife, Blood-Nap, Gehenna, katana, and the war club from honest hearts are all amazing weapons because of their DPS.

war club with the bullet casings was the sweatiest build i have ever done, this weapon with the attack speed perks becomes busted. physically couldn't push the button fast enough, instead figured out a rhythm that bugged it. made clearing out the deathclaw nest near sloan a breeze

What about Greased Lightning? It has low base damage, but insane attackspeed. Add
Rushing water and you have a super insane DPS as
Rushing water increase DPS by giving increased attack speed.
War club + all melee attack speed skills and perks (including hidden ones) + rushing water literally when doing a forward power attack launches you at mach 10 and if you hit a bump you fly up and hit the skybox
The proton axe got me through Old World Blues, especially since I went at like level 5. Ranged weapons felt like pellet guns and every other melee weapon had the impact of an airborne cardboard box, but when that axe came out it got real.
The alien blaster got me trough old worlds blue. I maxed in energy weapons and i wsa basically playing a nerdy guy who likes to vaporize things. Alien blaster can 1 shot anything. Also Elijah's LAER and the Elijah's Jurryriged Tesla Cannon is also good. YCS/186 tho most use ful weapon due to it being very versitile.
Going through OWB early level is brutal, but the challenge is worth it. The tables started to turn when I picked up Elijah's LAER. The predators became the prey.
@@botep5529 i just go directly to OWB at lvl 1, but difficulty is set to very easy, then after talking to klein just go get elijah laer and ez pz
@@melonhusk6642 that gun freaking melts. Only thing that sucks is it burns through durability so fast. But there is no shortage of mats to make weapon repair kits in OWB
I always run out of ammo for my small guns and energy weapons, so I end up bashing everything with the proton axe.
Favourite has got to be war club, fully upgraded + attack speed perks + rushing water and you can hit faster than you can push the attack button. Combined with the perk that has a chance to knock people down and you can stun lock basically every enemy in the game. It’s so fast that power attacking over and over is faster than running, so fun
I loved that thing. Back when I first played on the 360 I fought a pack of Yao Guai with one on VH HC by abusing the Smackdown perk with that insane attack speed and kept all of them stunlocked until their heads popped. It felt like Warframe combat before Warframe was even a thing.

Chances knife is one of the best knives. Also the super heated cosmic knife which has a x5 critical multiplier meaning if your character has a minimum 20% chance to score critical hits (which is easily obtained), you will score a critical with every single hit.

Also, the Protonic Inversal Axe can be found wielded by Test Subject 1 (the unique Lobotomite) in The Cuckoo's Nest at Big MT.
That weapon was no joke lol packing a good damage and dps you could fuck someone up with that although I don't use the weapon it's still in my inventory on hotkey hunting revolver is a go to recently I got into the brush gun as well and another good one is the anti material rifle with ammo that cuts into dt or incidenary I prefer incidenary due to it putting enemies up in flames lol another one I wanna mention is the 12.7 mm submachine gun which has over 300 dps when I encounter a real tough enemy I'd say that's one worth wielding

I’m surprised Blood-Nap didn’t make it. If you have the right perks it’s the best Dps melee in the game.
With the pyro perk +50% damage and poison applied it’s one of the best FPS in the game
@amir don’t forget Elijah’s ramblings & crit perks, turns that thing into 400 DPS monster
@@amir-zz7lz Just with the pyromaniac perk it beats all other melee weapons in sheer dps. Poison can be applied to all melee weapons so that really doesn't matter.
Gehenna, Katana (fully modded), war club (fully modded) and Oh, Baby! are missing on this list.
I usually use a 9 iron, just like my idol. Wham, bam, "oh god, my brains, you hit me in my brains." Easy as that.

The katana its the slickest and sickest sword in the game. With mods to boot. I forgot the damage but its amazing against enimes with a melee skill of 100

@@theorangegremlin334 look up how a katana actually sounds when it’s drawn. I was tripping out while playing ghost of Tsushima, so I checked it out on RUclips. Much more akin to a wood sound than the metal slice Hollywood portrays
Probably a lesser known detail about Knock-Knock is it's a tool called a Pulaski which is basically the Forestry Service's version of a fire axe mostly being used to make firebreaks

The Thermic Lance can also be found at the Brotherhood of Steel shop.
Thermic Lance is pretty much everywhere in Legion's area, they are the only people who use it

@@s.c5714 why not lol You get free purified water, an awesome vendor/repair AI, reloading bench and work bench, hot plate, organic matter converter, unlimited organic matter, a free doctor, free energy amo and components. You won't find that anywhere else!

@@s.c5714 I use all of it, I play on very hard hardcore. Also the reloading bench is bad ass, you can hand load some of the best ammo in the game.

When you said the chainsaw was the second most powerful melee weapon my immediate thought was the terminal lance is better
Thermal Lance, but I agree that it's a good weapon.
Matthew B chainsaw is more badass though
I disagree the lance can be knocked back and blocked where as the chainsae is almost never albe to be pushed back with but that's just in my experience
@@thatguyace3817 dunno about the lance, but i've been getting (cock)blocked when i tried chainsawing melee weapon wielding enemies a lot, not doing any real damage because of that.

And if your doing the BoS questline, from my experience the vendor has always had a thermic lance to sell.
The lance is a great one but the industrial fist found on the lonesome road DLC can have more DPS if you have the right build. However, the lances greater reach and the fact you can so easily fix it with the jury rigging perk using just about every other 2 handed weapon makes it the best melee weapon overall.
I was hoping you would mention the Thermic Lance, my favorite. Death Claws run from me when I'm carrying this. It's damage is 100, with 100 dps. Holding down the trigger while attacking allows for 5 chances for a critical hit per second.
Knock-Knock is my favorite, just because it’s so role-playable. If you play as NCR, you can use it like a fire fighter, protecting innocent people from danger. If you play as the Legion, it’s the closest modern equivalent to a Roman dolabra, which is a combination lumber / fighting axe and trench pick / spade.
Plus, it’s just... fucking brutal. One power swing and you almost always send someone’s head flying.
If you take the Superslam Perk you get a chance to do a knockdown with every attack outside of VATS. The Warclub from the Honest Hearts DLC swings so fast that if you can land a knockdown with the first attack even a Deathclaw is easy to handle as once it goes down it never has a chance to get back up as the knockdown triggers so often.

The knuckles love and hate are stupidly underrated imo, good attack speed, great damage, AND you can bring them into the casinos. Not to mention the satisfaction of punching someone into a fine red mist.
Plus it feels really great sneaking past all the god damned cazadores to get L&H at lvl 1, those facebreakers carried me through the whole damn game. I couldn’t bear to part with them
One of my favourites always try and get soon as possible especially when you get pricing strike can just about kill anything
A fully modded Warclub from the Lonesome Hearts DLC doesn't seem to do much damage at first but it swings exceptionally fast outside of VATS. Combine that with the level 8 Superslam perk (which can trigger a knockdown) and anything that doesn't kill you with it's first hit will die as the knockdown effect will trigger so often that the critter is essentially stun locked and helpless.
Yeah I love the war club as well, but u took the titles of Lonesome Road and Honest Hearts and raped them by calling Honest Hearts, Lonesome Hearts lmao

Fully modded war club is a DPS monster.
Actually the damage of the chainsaw count as energy or explosive damage, I don't know why. I am replaying the game on survival and today I used it against a explosive ant on the boomer's mission and the ant explote when I use the chainsaw so...
Nuka breaker will always be my favorite because that webshow is one of my favorite things I've ever seen on youtube. Knock knock is a close second because use a fireman axe in the apocalypse and post apocalypse feels right to me.
My favorite melee weapon to use is the War Club with all the mods attached from the Honest Hearts DLC
For the beginning of the game, the Sledgehammer (found in a shack near Goodsprings) and the Combat Knife (found on enemies) are the best melee weapons you'll get your hands on.
Also, I do kind of find it ridiculous that the pre-order bonus for the game is the same as one of the DLCs, seeing how I pre-ordered the game for the Classic Pack and it's now just a DLC
You can also grab chances knife which is one of the best melee weapons in the game right off the bat
Just be a real courier and run into the divide at lvl 1 and grab a sword of the west!

The earliest place to get a RIpper is on Vulpes Inculta in Nipton.
Which is exactly why I always have a Ripper early on LOL.
Unfortunately I was doing a legion character when I learned this so there went a good early weapon

Agreed. Been years since I played fallout new vegas but with the right perks and upgrades the katana was the fastest melee weapon and it was strong as hell.

Personally, I like the greased lightning & the fist of rawr.
Both for obvious reasons:
Rawr is good for insta-dismemberment action
Lightning is good with a certain perk that basically makes it towhere you take on a onesided match of boxing, knocking your enemies over and leaving them helpless while you box in their brains

for early game Chance's Knife is a personal favorite of mine. Not that high of a DAM but it swings fast.
The Gehenna is godly… I literally traded Oh Baby for it at the GR vendortron since I was running tight on caps, and my haven’t complained since

one of my favorite weapons in the game is the 9 iron. The FORE ability and sound are just too perfect not to weild them. I thought i would have seen it on this list.
I recently started a melee build for fnv, and this video helps so much!
With it's Scrapping mechanic Weapon/Armor damage would have made so much sense in Fallout 4. I mean come on having to repair your gear with scrap parts. It doesn't get more apocalypse then that.
One thing to note is that the ninja perk is a massive boon for critical hit builds in new Vegas even with a x1 multiplier you can get nearly 50% crit chance.

I kinda figured the Thermic Lance would be on the list, based on the stats, but didn't expect it to be #1, especially since you can obtain one a like level 5 if you opt to just wipe Vulpes & his crew as soon as you get to Nipton & instantly gain vilified rep with the Legion (like I did) and then fight smart with & get lucky with the first Legion Assasin squad sent after you (which I did, even though I had to reload at least twice before I was able to defeat that first squad at level 5, mostly using frag grenades & the Mercenary's Grenade Rifle). Only major drawback is that thing is heavy as hell (20 lbs), but I might actually see about getting rid of some of my backup weapons & health restoration items in favor of that as my melee weapon (I've been using Vulpes' ripper)...

I didn't know knock knock was a thing it's so simple and chic looking so cool. That antenna has mad reach though you can run backwards and swing away and you don't get hit by anything melee in return more so if you have the light armor movement speed perk.

I wish you would have mentioned the elijahs ramblings perk from dead money, I think it doubles your crit damage and is extremely Op on rapid striking weapons if you have luck 10, lucky shades and other crit related perks
I still haven’t ever gotten to the dlcs mostly cause I’m content with what I have but I was extremely happy to see oh baby at 3, it is my most favorite melee weapon and a must have for arsenal completion
I honestly thought the Oh, Baby! was the best in the base game. Then again, I only ever saw 1 thermic lance in the several playthroughs I had with New Vegas. It was probably in some shopkeepers' inventories when I was playing NV, but I never really noticed it. I found it once on a member of a Legion hit squad, but the character was ranged with energy weapons and low Endurance, so pretty much anything could put this character down, and I had no reason to explore the weapon on this character. I found the Oh, Baby! on my melee weapons character, and it wrecked everything so I just assumed it was the best because nothing else I found without DLC was able to compete with the raw base damage.
Thermic lance is based on real life metal work tool thermal lance, which it heat its top so high that it melt through metal like butter, therefore it is not a zappy stick, but a really hot stick.
This just makes me love the thermic lance that much morel
Weapon Mods Expanded takes these weapons and turns them up to 12. Faster swing speed, greater durability, and more damage
I have no clue how this got recommend to me, but I'm glad it did.
It is important to remember that with the right build you can easily get 150% crit damage and a 44% crit chance before modifiers so make sure to crank up that luck stat.

Blade of the West is the best weapon, with knockdown. Superior range, crit, cripple and swing speed. This with "Rushing water" and "turbo" or " GRX upgrade", Stonewall perk, and max dmg resist makes you invincible

I gave Veronica a thermic lance in a previous playthrough and it wound up being one of the best decisions I could've made, that character was leaning heavy into ranged attacks, but fell short in close quarters and she more than made up the difference

surprised Gehenna wasnt on here, it can do 116dps base and with a crit multiplier of 2x 21 damage with 2.8 attacks per second, Ive always thought that was one of the best, and then with some perks like pyro etc it can easily get above 300dps

From what I do know of the thermal lance is that it does have a mod and can also be sold by the brotherhood of steel.

There is something so satisfying about using the katana to slice and dice enemies isn't there? I love slashing radscorpions to death with it and it has a pretty good range for hit detection. Chances knife is quite beastly once you've combined it with grunt and cowboy and all the necessary perks.

Honestly I find knock knock to be the best melee weapon for like the first half of the game. Get melee to 75 and youre golden until like level 25, in which case you should have oh baby or a thermic lance by then. Super easy to get my hands on, too.
Oh, Baby! With maxed out melee weapons made me cure Caesar’s Tumour.
Have most of these and just put them in my storage at my Presidential suite..well now, time to have fun

Whenever I had a hammer, I’d say “I smite thee!” And smash the enemies head
i gave veronica the thermic lance and started hunting deathclaws, being a ranged player using ap rounds for my anti material rifle just added insult to injury as they would get a thermic lance enema while i just sat and watched pouring lead into their skulls from afar
The best area to get the thermic lance Is actually in that first area of the divide, the hopeville silo.
My favorite part about the non gra ripper is that you can find it really early into the game if you kill vulpes

My preferred melee weapons are Gehena and the cosmic spear. Though generally I'm a ranged/explosive user.
knock knock is named bc of the shining when he busted down the door with the axe. hence "knocking"
Check out the Cowboy and Grunt perks and then take a look at Chance's Knife and Dirtnap. There's also a way to get Chance's Knife at the very beginning of the game.
Sorry, Blood Nap. It might need that one patch for DLC weapons to be affected by Grunt and Cowboy.
Melee in general is so strong in fallout new vegas, honestly. Just finished the game for the third time focusing mostly on melee and it was by far my easiest play through yet, especially in the dlc.
I really liked the war club. If you got the slayer perk and super slam, you would be swinging like three times a second and knocking everything on its ass before they could even fight back. Then you just mash their faces into pudding while they lie on the ground.
If we were talking about favorites the Nuka Breaker would be my number one.
The unique shishkebab Gehenna with the pyromaniac, slayer, ninja, and piercing strike perks. I literally took on 5 divide deathclaws and won.
Here i am hoping there is a special mention to cosmic knife clean being used for dead money as it pretty much always takes off a limb
