I have an old purple rockhopper exactly the same! (well different bars and bits but you know) and i love riding it round swinley! Its just the right mix of frightning but doable on that kind of bike
Loving this idea - retro MTBs always make the trails more challenging, might have to take my ole Rockhopper to our local trails for a blast and see how we get on! Nice vid 👍👍👍👍
Underbiking is so fun. Even road bike riding all my bikes are “under bikes” and it’s fun to literally do everything fine compared to these riders with $10,000 12 speed electronic bikes meanwhile my bikes are only a few hundred bucks each 😂
Thank you Craig for complimenting on how comfortable the change spoon seats are. I’ve had mine for a week I’m in love with it, most comfortable seat I’ve had in years. Love the ride video it looked like a great time but then again if your on a early 90’s- late 90’s mountain bike it’s always a great time. Keep up the good work and stay safe out there.
Underbiking, or as we called it in the late 80's "Mountain biking" . It's way more fun. I've seen videos on RUclips of people ride the same trails I ride around Cannock chase and they moan about how "boring and easy" it is on their modern full sus or hardtail. Try it on an old full ridged I say. Or for some added yum, a Reynolds 531 bike from that era.
Love it dude!! Im currently building up a 93 rocky mt fusion. I cant wait to get it out on the same trails i ride my full sus enduro bike on. Juat to scare myself lol.
These were the days back in the 90's and beyond, me and my mates use to ride around Wimbledon Common, Boxhill or do the Thames side paths, back then i had a Specialized StumpJumper...How times have changed, with the bikes of today 🙂
You call it "underbiking"...I call it what I normally do. Never could afford the expensive bikes, so I always underbiked. Still fun...just don't ask me to keep up with the expensive rides or do highly technical trails.
I have a 'rock hopper' also! Just more proof that an 80-90s MTB rest-mod is still a great bike! Now they call them ATBs or gravel......but really they are not much different than a 90s MTB except for the unnecessary disc brakes. If you can't manage with v-brakes then it is your lack of skill not the bike's fault. This proves it!

For most people this is the perfect amount of speed and adrenaline. Love the idea!
Those trails look perfect for that bike. Older i get, the more i love 90s bikes on my trails. The new ones look like the borg has taken them over.

I did the same thing with an early 2000's Voodoo with the forks off an Enzo Woodstock. Loved it and it explained the whole gravel bike thing to me.
You probably won't win any races with it but it is just as enjoyable to ride in the trails today as it was in the 90's.

I've been thinking about under biking a lot and compared it to something like klunking back in the days

We used to ride to Richmond park and hit the same hill over and over again.
In answer to your question, it definitely handled everything you threw at it. Great shred and vid! 👍
I love taking an old mtb or gravel bike on easy trails to make them more exciting!
Could your chain be a bit too short?

nice bike 👍
Nice bike but if that's under-biking what would you call me doing this with my folding Dahon? 😂
Why do you have camera facing you? So weird
My mum likes to see my face.

In the rain or crossing a brook and my vee brakes squeal like a pig
1 x 12 is hardly an underbike.
Be a man, single speed or coaster brake.
1x10
Try it with a 150% worn chain and drivetrain
