Living in a third world country the only thing that stop us from sending too hard is the expense of breaking any bike parts, too damn expensive even the mid range parts lol Safety comes second
Jesse Wigman raced the endurance dh on a specialized rigid jump bike, he did 13 runs in 6 hours and was 40th overall, absolutely insane. I was on my Last Herb and beat him by one place :)
I race my specialized Epic full squish in DH Races because I can't buy a DH bike where I live, and I used to race XC for a while. It's a whole hell of a lot of fun!
@@yengsabio5315 I have pretty much converted my XC bike into a trail bike, Short 50mm stem, 750mm bars, dropper post and trail tyres, you name it! with that being said my times aren't all that bad. At the national level open DH competition I was mid pack in my time, to be fair, the course was a steep flow trail with big drops yeah, mid pack is usually how i place.
@@yengsabio5315 I do plan to upgrade to a big Enduro rig as i've maxed my XC/DH bike's capabilty with regards to speed and use range. It's fun! worth a try! however it's not the path to becoming a faster rider in the long run.

I don't have an enduro bike, so I have to ride with an XC bike, but less good than that. So that's what I have to put up with every day that I go up when riding.
What do you mean by XC bike? Do you mean a touring bike with MTB looks? I got myself a full-sus XC bike and so far the only thing limiting me down the descents is my low reaction time and lack of confidence.

@@bender6942 I hired a downhill bike for Fort William, I'm not stupid lol. Smooth tracks are fine at speed on my XC, but anything that can grab the front wheel is buttock clenching as you can only lean back so much before you go cartwheeling down the track.

That was a pretty extreme test of a hardcore XC hardtail, but how about the same trail on one of the new breed of short travel XC/Trail bikes, like the Revel Ranger, Transition Spur or Norco Revolver. Would love to see how much more capable these bikes are than the older XC full sussers
I know the feeling. My bike has rear suspension, but is 120mm front and back and although it's model is NDURO it's not for DH. It is scary on the DH trails with such bikes, but it is definitely fun and a great test for your skills. Some parts of those trails you might have to walk through, but who cares as long as you are having fun.
I was racing xc in the late 80's as a teenager. We rode EVERYTHING on those rigid scooters. Kamikaze downhill.... I didn't race that but other people's did lol
That's the stuff I do with my hardtail and 100mm fork. I may not be super fast, but it works, is loads of fun and, thanks to a dropper post, very safe as well.
As you get down to bikes with less travel on a really tech trail like this, it shows just how good a rider really is, cause you have to really pick and choose your lines
I have been riding a 120mm travel bike (front and rear) at a downhill bike park for a while now. Prefer it to the monster truck bikes that everyone else rides, you actually have to have really good bike control, balance and skills.
I think that's the beauty of riding a simpler bike, it's more challenging than with a longer travel one. Of course you're limited to what the bike can do and a different type of adrenaline. Don't get me wrong, it is still a challenge even with a more capable bike too because of the intensity you can ride with it. Cool!
I took my fs xc bike to Angel Fire last weekend and it went something like this video haha. It handled it but could have been way more comfortable. Definitely a fun experience
I've taken my hardtail on some of the sketchier DH/enduro trails in my area. Though my hardtail has more travel, bigger brakes, and a burlier fork. This would be fun.
oh ye of little faith!! you'd be absolutely amazed what it takes to snap a good carbon frame, or a good ally frame to be fair! ive done a couple, but I've also put some xc hardtails through absolute hell!! I've tried hitting jumps not far off the motorway section at fort will (and yes I've been there in person and ridden them on an enduro, and yes the absolutely look smaller on tv!) and I'm a much much worse rider than rich so I've cased a fair number too! then you always snap the frame on the stupid little ditches and stuff. I'd love to see someone try to motorway on an xc bike at full speed 😂

I've ridden my Trek XCaliber on double black downhill for a few years. It didn't like it, and I went through several wheel sets, but never did me wrong
I did the Megavalanche trail on a hardtail soon after it opened on a titanium LiteSpeed with Pace forks back in the day took a couple of hours though ! (my only claim to fame)
