Restoring, Upgrading & Shredding An Old Mountain Bike - Specialized Rockhopper

  • A late 90's early 2000's Specialized Rockhopper, restored, upgraded (on a budget) and taken to the trails to see if it would hold up ride like a modern mountain bike.
I got this frame and pretty unusable forks on eBay and wanted to see if I could build it on a budget by shopping around on eBay for new and used parts.
New Parts include: Bars, gear shifter, stem spacers, brakes and levers, wheels and tyres, cranks and pedals, cassette, chain & seat.
    Used parts include:
    Forks, derailleur & stem
I wanted to restore it but still do something different with it and be able to use it for a longer ride and still hit some trails and it turned out perfect for that.

Just got a 1999 Rockhopper RS which is why I am here. I stayed for the excellent video production. No doubt our host has a lot to say but this video is even MORE effective without narrative. Really appreciate the multiple cam angles including drone footage. Editing is superb. Natural sounds with no silly music is the gold standard.

So anyone seen the awesome new 28.25 cobble bikes? 28.25 wheels are the perfect size for blowing down cobble beds and the advanced new mono gear drive trains put all your power down to those perfect new wheels while simultaneously reducing weight and complexity. Awesome stuff and only 1899.99 for the casual pedestrian sidewalk towel rack version!

Im the original owner of a 2001 Specialized rockhopper comp A1. I have already done a bunch of upgrades to it and now my 12yr old son rides it. I was hoping you might be able to provide some specifics on the parts used and if you changed the geometry any (shorter stem, wider bars?), rims with a wider internal diameter (> 17mm or 19mm internal width)? etc. great video btw.

That was awesome . Three things are apparent here .
Firstly , you have great skills in restoring and setting up a MTB
    Secondly , you shred
And finally , so many riders are "over-biked" , which is not a sin ! just funny .
You have proven that a good rider on a decent , solid foundation bike can be an awesome combination .
