Troy, good job on these tips man, you helped me a lot solve my rough idle issue. I’ll be looking forward to watching some of your videos in the future!!! 😀
Just tried this on my daughter’s 2005 Corolla as it revs inconsistently around 1100rpm. After three goes at this method it now idles smoothly on 800rpm. 😊
Thank you! Exactly what solved my problem after replacing the battery, was suspecting running on 3 cylinders but all 4 ok or a loose belt but alternator is fine 13.6 volts at 500/600 rpm. Now 5 minutes later 800 rpm smooth.
is it essential its at operating temp before doing the reset? do you need to let it run rough then do the reset? would plugging in my block heater do it? my battery died after sitting for a long time. i used a trickle charger to charge it back up but its idling so slow im afraid it might stall if i try to move it. so going to do this later today. also, is there an ignition trick like this to get my air bag light to go off or do i have to get the clock spring replaced - $500, ugh. my 2006 corolla, has well over 300k kms. the odometer stopped at 299,999
So may questions..... I'll try to answer them all. If you use a block heater to warm the engine that would be fine. For the idle reset it's important to not rev the engine during the 4-5 idle time. Let the computer do it's job. You can drive it with the low idle but it would be best to let it correct itself before using it too much. For the Odometer stopping at 299K that's just how it is. What I've done in the past is used Trip B to clock how far over 300K the car is. I use Trip A for road trips, MPG calculations etc. In my opinion it isn't worth the $500 for the computer reset at the dealer. These cars are amazing and will easily go over 300K miles if well cared for. This is a fail (and a win) on Toyota's part!
@@troysgarage thank you! the $500 is for a new airbag clock spring, my airbag light came on a couple of years ago. i'm not driving it currently, but i'll have to get that fixed to insure it and pass a safety. the part is $500, which sucks and i consider that a big fail on toyota. way too much $ for such a small but important part imo!

if i have a manual, do i need to put it in neutral with the emergency brake up? also should the brake pedal be pushed the whole time the car it´s relearning?
Neutral with ebrake on is fine. Just let it idle without touching anything. Mine reset at about the 4:20 mark. I was just about to give up when it magically started idling correctly.
Another easy way to do this is to this is to go into your fuse box and disconnect the ECU fuse and put it back in for those who f’d up a tune or replaced ignition coils, spark plugs, air filter, , fuel pump replacement, oil change, just basically anything to do with the combustion cycle just so it stays up to date and keeps running smooth
@@troysgarage ECU has to reset, removing the ECU or the battery is basically a restart for a computer, checks if airflow and fuel mixture is correct, checks if there are any problems occurring, always have an OBD reading connected when doing this to catch any codes or problems occurring with the vehicle, this is Fuel Injection we are talking about, not Carbureted

A “how to” video in under a minute is a LOT harder than you think. I do make some common sense assumptions and YES the whole point of being a RUclips creator is VIEWS!!! Shocking right??? 😱🤦🏼♂️
@@troysgarage lol then you’re not a mechanic. You’re just a RUclipsr.
Also if you put that RUclipsr knowledge to work you’d learn how to edit before uploading. Being someone constantly working on video editing and videography & photography I think it’s safe to say it’s not that hard. Also the whole point of you uploading THIS video is not for views. The only people watching are the ones needing help.. you sound pretty condescending on that one. Lol maybe rethink your RUclips career. You’ve essentially taken an idea you found on RUclips. And just remade one at a different camera angle. I’m sure you had the issue. Figured it out. And made a video after you had already fixed it. Again you just gotta unhook the battery. If it’s so simple then just recreate the whole problem and record it. Then edit it. Maybe even make a whole video and then use the feature that you’ve ALREADY HAS and make a short from your video. You clearly don’t have much knowledge on the matter so I’ll stop there ☠️😂
I never claimed to be a mechanic. But I am sharing what I do know. I’ll go search for your video showing me how it’s done next, just a guess I won’t find it. 🤨😜🤪
Also maybe change the title. Clearly the other people commenting think you mean it’ll fix it in under a minute. No you mean “I’m gonna show you the steps in under a minute” you just meant the video is a minute long. Nobody wants to learn this technical crap that fast. Unless they are someone who probably shouldn’t be doing it. And again you didn’t even go over every step.
Dude I just did this to my 98 4runner and it worked 🫡
I had a high idle after replacing the starter (had the battery unplugged when replacing)
Awesome. Glad this helped you out. 🤘🏼
