Excellent tutorial, everything worked perfectly on my new wii. I was having trouble with wads, my wiimote would stop responding.but apparently I do not need them. There were other files that the other tutorial did not tell me about. I got the usbgx loader and backupmanager from there first but the rest did not work. Yours did and it worked perfectly. Thank you very much.

@@arfanmedni7294, Yup, I’m also loading MarioKart onto my Wii! To my surprise the cIOS and usbloader gx parts were really easy, but I had some problem with the Mario Kart Wii file

Thanks for the video, it worked perfectly on both my white gamecube compatible Wii and black non-gamecube compatible Wii. I used a 4 GB SDHC card without any issues. I also used an 8 GB USB flash drive to try out the games and it worked well.

Ah this is gold. I have a wii stored away in the closet I've hardly ever used that I was gifted last year, only played wii sports and mario kart on that thing (the mario kart disc got damaged unfortunately) besides me being a huge zelda and nintendo fan I've never been able to find a place that sells wii games in my area. I'll definitely get to softmodding it to enjoy the extensive wii library and relive some old gamecube games, and even some I never had the chance to play.
Back up your games to more than 1 hard drive

@@killinallmusic6193 yea you can put gba nes snes and sega emulators pretty easily you can get channel installers for the emulators amd have em on your home screen there are detailed walkthrus with the links to all the stuff you need in the description

SDHC 8gb cards do work for this useful if you're wanting to run emulators on the wii. If you can, install Bootmii as boot2. This will allow the Wii to boot directly to Homebrew channel, so if you're using it for Gamecube games or only homebrew, you don't need a wiimote.

Thousand thank yous! Had my Wii modded many years ago and couldn't for the life of me remember how it worked, which cIOSs to install, which loaders to use etc. Your video was linked through reddit and it covered exactly what I needed.

Just gonna suggest adding Wiimmfi, which allows you to play on a custom Nintendo WFC like server.

Note to anyone following this guide: You DO NOT need to format your hard drive to FAT32. Only the SD card. USBLoaderGX recognizes NTFS drives and i actually played Wii games on my 2TB NTFS drive.

IMPORTANT!!: I almost gave up after games would start to load from the external HDD but then blank screened or got stuck at the wrist strap message. Tried 4 different external HDD's no joy.
BUT!!, for one last try I used my main PC backup drive (left it as is), a silicon power 2TB USB3 formatted to NTFS and all my "backed-up" games works flawlessly :) :) ,very happy now. So if it don't work for you just keep trying different external HDD's until it does (none of the 8 USB thumb drives I tried worked no matter how I formatted them.) Also I completed the mod procedure with a 256MB SD card from an old digital camera.

if anybody else is having an issue where there wii will freeze when downloading a game, try deleting everything off your drive using windows, then plug it back in. Might of just been luck, but this worked for me nicely.

I got a used Wii from a friend a couple of days ago, modded it and bought some 3rd party Gamecube controller today. Wii games work and I'll try GC now (Wii has the controller ports). Thank you for this guide, it was a big help.
I had to install d2x cIOS v10 beta 52 with base 56 (instead of 57 like in the video) and used that instead of beta 53 for games to load. At least I assume it was beacause of that.
DerTypDerVideosGuckt there’s an app called priiloader and it gives your Wii the best brick protection possible if you have it installed all you do while the Wii is in boot process is hold the reset button down

Wiimodlite, look it up, put it in your apps and run it from homebrew channel, put your .wads in "wads" folder on sd card, install the wads in the software, may have to change ios, i donf know about that

Follow this guide carefully. It works perfectly and now i can play my backups and old gamecube dumps easily. My wii console is first generation white USA.
@Zyzz it works perfectly. Yes you can play downloaded roms easily. But make sure you do everything as the video says. Also make sure that your version of wii is compatible with it.

0:52 - Not true, you can buy the Nintendo Wii U GameCube Adapter/Mayflash one should work to. Plug it into the USB-Port 1 respectvily if you look from the back into the left one (the right one is USB-Port 0): Get "Nintendont" and tada you can use a GameCueb Controller and playing GCN games, I'm not sure but a Classic controller should work to instead of a GCN Controller + Adapter

@@greenstarlover1 it didn't recovered files. It repaired the stick. The data was actually curupted. But that data was just some ps3 system Recovery Files to restore my ps3.
But the stick works now!
@@leonboheim5627 oh. I asked because I had a USB stick that died that stored a couple of Wii games.
I guess there's nothing I can do about the lost files now, but at least I can maybe get the USB drive working if what you said was true.

This tutorial was much more clear then the others, so thank you! however, When I try to load a game it doesn't load and I have to turn the wii off and then my game disappears when I open the loader again, to which I have to do all the steps for wii backup manager again... I tried to change the game boot settings but they usually aren't exact/still don't work.
Can you give exact instructions about booting games/troubleshooting games that don't run?
I actually used an SDHC 16GB card and it's working so far, I don't know if other people have problems or it's just the black Wii has different hardware crap, idk.

actually, you can use sdhc cards just fine, but it has to be 32 gb or lower. (You can partition a bigger sd card to work just fine).
Wow, that's stupid easy. Buy digital storage space, format some things, download, extract, open a few menus... this can all be done in less than a day and gives the Wii even more possibilities

If you are using the Letterbomb, any SD cards up to 32 GB in capacity work.

You actually can use High capacity SD's they just have to be formatted to FAT32. theres an app called guiformat that you can do it with.

NB!! You can use SDHC cards BUT MAXIMUM 32 GB
You can use high capacity SD cards for this. I just did it with a 64 GB SD. You just need to install separate software to format the SD card since Windows will not format a high capacity SD card to FAT or FAT32.
I followed all of the steps carefully, and it keeps giving me the error when I try and load the game on my Wii via Nintendont, 'Could not be initiated'.

for some reason usb loader won't pick up my usb thumbstick, wii mod lite picked it up but I can only rarely get past the usb initialization with it.

WiiBackupManager is not working the same for me as it does in this video. I may have made a mistake. But there's no way to know because that section was blazed through. It's like dude was in a huge hurry to finish this tutorial. Take it down a notch

so my jank labtop wont download the USB uploader file correctly a while back i tried to do all this via labtop with dolphin long story short it failed and it now tries to auto open the file in the app rather than just download as a file or turant

The letter doesn't show up on mine. I made sure the date was correct and went back one day. It's just blank. Any ideas?
Or with str2hax you don't even need an SD card anymore. You can just point your dns settings to a custom server and go to the user agreements area and just click yes and then next and your done.
PS this is very much simplified because I'm typing this out on my phone and not so good with the keyboard
gonna put this here in case anyone had a similar issue: my usb loader gx wasn't properly mounting my usb stick and i kept getting an error saying "failed to initialize usb device" or something like that. what i did to fix it was around 5:07 instead of setting base to 56 i set it to 58. hope this helps someone else w a similar issue

Your flash drive isn't supported by the software. Running the game off the drive will be fine, so just look up a wbfs file for it and put it on the drive.

I've tried two different sd cards and haven't had any luck getting the letter to appear.
Instead of clicking back a page like he did. I had to click on the calendar, and then click the little box that's lit up.
Hmm I dont get the letter to appear either on my 32GB.. pictures show up tho so i know the wii can read it, i'll try a format and again in an hour..

Can't get any further than the settings for cIOS. Did everything in the instructions but whenever I fix the settings and select a slot it says net_gethostbyname failed -6 . Anyone know how to fix it?
