In this video I take a step back and go over some of the basics of running a Print On Demand Store. I'll take you step-by-step through the process of creating and editing Etsy shipping templates to work with your Print On Demand provider, go over common mistakes that cost me $$$, and give you my recommendations for shipping configuration (FREE vs PAID).
Finally, I'll show you three examples of how to setup shipping profiles. The first one is the manual shipping profile creation process and the next two examples work through Printful and Printify.
Time Stamps:
1:50 - Free vs. Paid Shipping
2:53 - Should you sell internationally (🔥 SPOILER! YES)
3:50 - How the payment and fulfillment cycle works
5:51 - 3 Examples

This is where I got stuck, the shipping cost setting for international & national, these little details are really helpful and worth paying attention to from the start, I am so grateful to see your video. Thank you.
You just earned a subscriber. The shipping options and which countries to ship to was driving me cray-cray on Etsy. Thank you so very much for sorting this out for me.
Love it! Thanks so much for the comment and for subscribing! Much appreciated!
I have searched every forum for this kind of clarity on shipping profiles. You're a lifesaver!
Thank you so much, Ben. This is so helpful. I was so scared to open my first Etsy store because I am not very technical but your video is very easy to follow along and your advice helped me out a lot.

Hi Ben. Thanks for the video! Very helpful! I could use chapter markers.
Before watching this video editing shipping information was pain in the ass!! Thank you so much for simplifying it like that!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks so much for leaving the comment and feedback!
This is so incredibly helpful and untangled a host of unknowns re shipping. Thank you!!! :)
Thanks for this, useful to know. I was trying to calculate shipping to be included in price and not make a loss if purchased from afar! Makes sense now! Earned a sub!
Love it! Glad it helped and thanks for the sub! Let me know if any questions come up!
Thanks Ben, this is the best tutorial video on shipping!!!
Best tutorial on the subject that I’ve found. Thanks bro
I found this video so helpful! The shipping section is so confusing but you made it so easy to understand. I now have my first listing. Thankyou :)
Great breakdown!! I started awhile back and to postpone, now I’m back selling and ran across your other videos! I can’t wait to start now!
Thank you so much! I was stuck on this detail when listing my items. Ya saved me.
Hey. Good morning to you. That was so useful. Relieving some of my brain fog this morning😂 and gibing me steps to focus on. Blessings and well wishes sent to you for making this vis😃🙏✌️✨
Love it! Glad it helped with the brain fog and thanks for watching and the feedback!
Very very to thanks 👍 for this detailed information, iam grateful to you
This was SO HELPFUL! Was searching for information about all the shipping costs/times etc. & you covered all of it! TYSM
Thanks for the awesome comment! Glad it helped out!
Thankyou!!!! I was literally stressing trying to figure this out!
Very helpful, thanks. I was getting confused about how it creates new shipping profiles and if I had to use those for printify.
Thanks. I really appreciate what you’ve done. I’ve used other set up
Videos and none of them show this. Thanks 🙏
You just saved me a mental breakdown, thank you!! lol
Thanks for posting, so helpful. As with a lot of videos, always at break neck speed. Not sure if there is a time factor. As its a tutorial really need to slow down. to prevent stop rewind , repeat. Having said that have subscribed and will watch again and others you have linked.
Help me please, I'm trying to add a new listing and it's asking me for weight and length , I don't know them, I have printiful doing everything for me, it doesn't let me save setting to add listing on Etsy with our it!
Thank you for explaining how this worked thank you.
I did have one question well actually 2.
When you are offering free shipping in the u.s. do you just look at how much that is to ship and mark up the cost of the product to absorb the shipping cost and the same with the Etsy fees.
Thank you
I was coming to ask this! The shipping cost to Canada is double. If you set shipping as $5 you will be paying half the shipping
Such a well explained video! Thank you so much
You answered every single question I had! Thank you for the super helpful video!
Love it! Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment!
Where it asks for the original zip code, do you put in the other company’s? I’m using this photo printing place to drop ship my prints.
Same question
I'd also like to know
Yeah this is a bit confusing. When I did some digging on this a while back I ended up finding an article from Printful that stated to use Zip 91311 for this. Full transparency I'm not 100% positive that this is the best zip to use. May be worth a chat with Printful support!
Thank you for this. What do you put when Etsy wants a weight and package size?
I dont know what's going on with Printify but they're constantly increasing their shipping fee. I've only been using them for 6 months in conjunction with Etsy and already seen 2 shipping fee increases. Now I have to go into my Printify account and individually change the shipping price for over 100 listings? That's so much work!
It's inflation and Oil Prices blame the presidents and The central banks 😂
This was extremely helpful. Thank you soooo much 😉💯🤜🤛
Thanks Ben, I have a pretty similar process. It can be complex. I've started incorporating the VAT Printify tacks on for some countries.
I'm killing myself trying to figure out this out. This has been helpful
Glad it helped Fabiano! Thanks for the feedback!
Thank you for the video 🙏🏻 Very helpful!
Exactly what I needed, thank you for explaining this so well. Can I just ask a question please? If you have specified a uk print company in Printify but also have everywhere else as an option will Printify select another print company local to the customers location outside the UK?
Did you get a response?
Etsy keeps asking me for an origin zip code. What do I use in regards to Printify?
@Javan Benoit i'm a little bit confused by your comments. You are saying that zip code should be the one of Printify. Etsy however is asking however "Where do you dispatch packages from?". Which in my understanding would be zipcode of your production partner as they support with shipping (for example Moster Digital / FYBY / etc.)
Is my understanding incorrect? If so please provide me with reasoning.
Hey Lara! Copying this response from above "Yeah this is a bit confusing. When I did some digging on this a while back I ended up finding an article from Printful that stated to use Zip 91311 for this. Full transparency I'm not 100% positive that this is the best zip to use. May be worth a chat with Printful support!"
This was superrrr helpful. Thank you!
Glad it helped! Thanks for stopping by!
this is amazing!!!! super helpful
Hi Ben, great video, definitely! Quick question though. Say Printful - given that they have printing facilities all around the world, doesn't that make shipping cost-effective automatically? How does it work once an order comes into Etsy. I'm in the UK. Say my friend in Australia orders a cup - does Printful automatically send the order to their Australian facility and ship from there? If that's the case - say I chose 'free shipping' right there and then in the Printful settings - I would hope that shipping cost will be at a minimum for all those countries that have Printful's printing facility in the area. Am I making sense?
Good information. My problem is I made a product that only ships FROM China and I am confused on how to fill out the profile for shipping TO the USA.
Great info. but now shipping a small poster is 8-11 business days. Yikes.. Must be because of the holiday season. I'm just starting my Printful/Etsy shop. And looks like shipping everywhere else I'm gonna have to select like $10 for a rd. about # to make sure I don't take a hit. After all the videos and reading for the past two lol Thx again and new Sub here. :)
this is so helpful, thank you!
How do you get the tracking number to complete the order if your using print on demand? I have an order that is still incomplete because I don't have a tracking number.
This was SUPER helpful! thank you so much
Thanks for watching and glad it was helpful 👊👊
Thank you 👏 this was so helpful and easy to follow
Thanks for the comment and feedback! Much appreciated!
Hey - Curious as to what you would input in the zip code requirement on the shipping profile? Especially when using printify?!
That’s what I came here to try and figure out 😭
Great tutorial. I learned something new.
Hey thanks! I'm glad it was helpful. And in regards to your other question, I have been doing a blanket cost for international. So I try to average things out somewhere around $5 for T-shirts shipping internationally.
While making this video I actually updated all of my listings as well! Let me know if any questions come up!
BEYONG HELPFUL MAN. CAN YOU MAKE AN UPDATED VERSION OF THIS VIDEO
Very useful!! Thanks for uploading.
Thanks for the feedback! Much appreciated!
What an awesome video! Thanks so much!
Thanks! Glad it was helpful and thanks for the feedback!
Very helpful. Thank you for sharing!
👊👊 Thank you!
This was helpful! My only question still is after I set up these shipping profiles, let's say I didn't offer free shipping. So when a customer buys my product on etsy and pays for shipping on etsy as well. Will I be charged on printify for shipping as well? Or has that shipping cost been covered by the customer already? And if it has been handled already does Etsy then pay printify for the shipping costs when they send the order over?
I just don't want the customer to pay for shipping, but then I also have to pay for shipping. Trying to avoid double paying and losing profits. And I can't seem to find a clear answer to this question anywhere. So if you have one that'd be amazing. Thanks!
i did the exact same process and i got my first order, i go in the orders section in etsy and its asking me to print labels :/ no idea what i did wrong. watched the video multiple times. any help?
thank you bro!
Hi Thanks for your video. I live in France and have a French bank account. I have just created my Etsy store here for POD products and its connected to Printful France in Euros. I want to ship everywhere, not just France but Printful asks you to name a production location so I listed Barcelona. I also plan on offering free shipping everywhere and building the shipping costs into my list price....but......here's where I get stuck.
Say someone in Canada orders one of my tshirts. Will Printful make it in Spain and then ship it from there to Canada, or will the tshirt be made in Canada and shipped from Canada to the customer there? Same for the US. An American orders my wall art, does fulfillment automatically gets pushed to the nearest fullfillment center to the client?
Will the shipping fees listed on Printful be the real shipping cost from Canada's fulfillment center to the customer there, or is the shipping cost still calculated from the fulfillment center in Barcelona? It really isn't at all clear on Printful's website and I haven't yet found a tutorial that addresses this clearly.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
I am having the same problem! Can someone please answer this!!
Thank you so much for all of the helpful information. If i do as you said, will Printify automatically put in the weight and size of the item when packaged? Im having a hard time with that. Thank you, again!
thank you so much!!!
THANK YOU!
I just started with Printify and use multiple print providers. How does the printed cost get calculated if someone orders an item for two (or more) print providers.
Thank you! :)
Is there a video of how it currently works? Applying printful's shipping to other products on Etsy is an elusive option.
This was super helpful to me! I am trying to open my store but the shipping profile stumped 🤔 me.
Very very very informative
Thanks Ben
Kindly do a session on product research for Etsy and can we go with Amazon as a third party ?
If then what may be the pros and cons ?
Not sure if this is true but possible scenario .. girl on YT comment last year or so? said her boyfriend lunched his store and had over $10k in orders first month, he couldn't cover in his credit / bank card and most orders cancelled as POD supplier would not fulfil orders. She said he was going to have to start all over gain.
Thanks you for your video is very helpful
thank you for the tutorial!
Very informative! thank you! I started an Etsy shop recently, and shipping has been tough for me to figure out. Als0, you may have already covered this, but how do I offer my Etsy customers expedited shipping?
Thanks for the comment and question! When you setup a shipping profile there is an option to add a "Shipping upgrade". This is where you would add any premium shipping services that you want to offer! Hope that helped and let me know if you have any questions!
this helped me so much thank you
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching and for the feedback!
Thank you thank you thank you
Thanks a million So helpful
👊👊 Thanks for the comment! Glad it helped!
This is very helpful, thank you! A couple things. Do you let them choose shipping upgrades for faster delivery? Also, I see Etsy asking for the weight of my products and not sure why.
What if I am in EU and the supplier is in US, can I add free shipping for US? Am i going to lose something?
You should be able to setup free shipping for the US and then you would just be charged by Printful for the shipping rates as shown here: www.printful.com/shipping#shipping-rates
Hope that helps!
Thanks Ben. Educational and useful, as always. So, do you have to pay up front for your shirts from printful before you get the money from Etsy? Also, how soon can you get the money from Etsy? I'm just think of a scary scenario where you fortunately sell 10 shirts on your first sale but you dont have $100 dollars to stump up the cost.
Hey Aaron thanks so much! In terms of payment, when a customer pays on etsy the money goes into the Etsy account and they pay out to your bank account or payment method normally once a week BUT you can request the funds sooner. Printify/Printful will charge you separately for the product cost. Hope that helps! So in theory it would be possible to run into a cash flow issue but if you think that may happen then request the funds to be disbursed from Etsy sooner! Let me know if you have any other questions.
this video saved my life lol thanks
Glad it helped! Thanks for the feedback!
what is the number in the zip code supposed to be? yours still shows 12345
I don’t know what I did wrong 😅 now when I go into printify it’s saying my shipping profile doesn’t match Etsy
How i do standart shipping and fast shipping options together. Just customer choose standart or fast shipping. I want to give two option?
Wait so if I change the shipping profile, does it still go to the POD you chose to create the shirt with or does it send it to a new POD provider to fulfill the order?
Thanks so much - subscribed
Love it! Thanks for the comment and sub Linda!
umm does it mean, that you take less profit margin for the item that was purchased in US in the end?
Is it difficult to set up express shipping and should I offer that?
Hi Ben, is it possible to use Both printify and Printful on 1 shop ?
For example :
Using Printful for mugs
Using printify for bottles
On the same Etsy shop
I have a question. where can I send my questions to?
I was following until you got to free shipping. I do not see the option and cannot name the shipping
When I selected enter fixed prices manually the zip code box didn't disappear
Strange etsy didnt have origin zip code before. Im not sure what to put there.
What to do with zip code?
How on earth do you price it for free shipping as it still cost and can get expensive for large items
What do I put as the zip code I am stuck
hi ben i just did the math and couldnt believe after production costs and shipping costs Im only making just over 5 dollars per item?! ! I kept hearing quotes of making double that per shirt. is it normal this normal or have i choosen the wrong shipping choice. I think i did USPS first class. The shipping was almost nine dollars for someone right here in the U.S. Im so confused. Thanks for your time appreciate you.
Hi Ben... I'm from the UK.. I will be using printify... Do you suggest I use a UK print provider on printify or would it be fine to use a US provider?
There is a few US print providers that i prefer over the UK ones..
Tks..
when im based in an other country, not in US, still targeting US customers, can I do the same like free for US and not for the other countries?
Im getting On hold under status and tracking pending. I don't have tracking because printify doesn't give it. 😢
Thank you for your information!
I have a question…is it possible to add free shipping included in my Etsy shop with print on demand (printify) for international as well?
Ex: item is $5 and shipping is $11.50… instead I want to make item $16.50 which means free shipping…
Can you please help me with that?
when you offer free shipping do you need to increase the price on printify or the shipping cost was already factored in cost of production by printfy?
Hey Ben, so I wanted to see if you can help me. I got an order yesterday of 4 candles and it's supposed to charge shipping but instead etsy gave the customer free shipping. I bought 1 candle for myself to try it out and it charged me 7.99 as it should but how come when she bought 4, it was free ship? It's really took a chunk out of my profit and I am lost.
