Great video. It's also nice to see a drummer that understands the value of using the heel-toe method on the hi-hat when playing a jazz beat to keep a steady tempo.
Damn! I also like the second kick pedal on the inside of my hats. But with the DW 9000, the linkage is just too darn long. It can't get close enough. I guess I'm gonna have to break out the hacksaw.
Do you guys know how to stop the Top Hat from Spinning while playing? Or is it my techniue? I tried adjusting the tightness nothing seem to work for now but I think I'll try the Tama clutch maybe that's the solution?
Yea it's normally because the nut may not be tight enough on the top high hat. I don't think I have that issue with the Tama clutch But it probably is just because your looser top hat
5 inches of height from the snare rim I assume? I keep my hats at around 11 o'clock and they just barely hang over the rim of the snare by maybe a ½" and I go with about 6" of height. Thanks nice video. I like your explanation of the sizzle setting. I go with about ¾ inch gap to I can get a good sound when keeping time with the foot on the hat
Thanks! And ya about 5" from the snare rim. I like your description of the 11 o clock position. I didn't think about it in that way, that's a great way of looking at it!
If you are going through sticks chipping ,turn the angle adjustment around so the bottom hat is up in front of you. Less chopping on the edge.
Good call out!
@@AttunedMusician The world is a better place when we help each other become our best. Thank you.
I've never understood how people chew their sticks up like beavers. I always play on top of the high hat, not hitting the edge straight on.
@@dcthegreatest24 I have chewed them up on a stack. I had the stack a bit too high. After lowering it, I stopped chewing up the sticks lol

Thanks! And your support is much appreciated. Definitely a technique I need to work better at. I've just always tried to heel down when playing jazz
Trying to get my hi hat pedal to a setting where I can use heel toe similar to my bass pedal. They are both pearl redlines
7:35 I use a huge gap on my big band playing!
Nice! What type of hats you use? Big band sounds like a good time.
@@AttunedMusician well for now I only have sabian b8's but someday im hoping to get some vintage classic high hats!
Really good tips, definitely want to see more.
Thanks! More to come! 😀
Hi, new drummer to acustic kit and this video was really well done and comprehensive!
Hey! I'm glad it was helpful!

🪚 haha yea, That is annoying though!
What is the black big thing that screws around above the foot pedal
Really good video
Thanks you!
"You're gonna drop it shortly after that"... and I just nod and go "sounds about right"
Haha 😆
