13 Drum Fills You NEED to Master in 2025!
Grab the sheet music to these 13 fills NOW here: bit.ly/4gYKoYr
Here are 13 drum fills that go from easier to a bit more challenging! I tried to create them that way, but it may be different for you. This 2025, throw these fills into your practice routine and add/take away whatever you need to create even MORE fills for yourself!
We start off with 16th note based fills, and then we get some 16th note triplets fills sprinkled in too!
At the end of it, we are using some 'hybrid' 32nd note/16th note fills (aka mixed subdivisions). You will hear a lot of these types of fills in all kinds of music, but I can't help but think of hard rock and metal with those types of fills.
Anyways, if you have ...

4 Tips For Ghost Note Demolition | Ghost Notes For Beginners
Super awesome man! Love the sound!
Thanks for this video! Is it possible to tune the snare with the gibraltar ones on?
Thanks, man. I tired of searching for videos for recommendations on cymbals to only find super high end, well produced videos from people who are just trying to sell you the cymbals they have in stock or have affiliate links to go purchase. I trust this method much more, so thanks again. Follow up question for you; could you break down the durability of different cymbal types?.. I had a bunch of great Sabians that sounded great, HHX evolutions, and after I started playing with a heavier style, I ended up ruining my 24" HH china and 14" Evolution china's and those are not cheap. is this just a problem with thinner cymbals and that's just the sacrifice you get or are their other brands that hold up better etc.. curious on your thoughts there.. thank you in advance. Subbed.
✌🏼✌🏼
Great tips man! Thanks! Love the cross on the whiteboard too!
I used to practice rush songs for ever but i set up a left hand ride cymbal, and played alot of the figures with my left leading, also played alot of bass drum figures with my left pedal foot and played all Neil's fills as double strokes. Now i can play equally well with any limb. Singles, doubles and triples are really strong with both hands. Make practice fun and mix it up.
I think is easier and cheaper to enclose and soundproof the drum set in a smaller space, inside that room. Because even if you spend money on closing the windows and doors, the roof and floor of the entire space aren't sound proof.
Yea, that is a good point! Eventually I'm just gonna put a regular studio/rehearsal room around the drums and do some resilient channels, along with some other methods to help control the sound a little more. I probably won't soundproof it completely (also too costly), but it'll be cool to see the difference vs. now. Thanks for watching!
Interesting vid man! Little tip from my experience it’s all about weight, as in the heavier the sheets/pads/seals etc the more isolated your sound will be, doesn’t matter what kind of crazy tech some company can sell, to me, if it’s light it’s shite 😁
Thanks for watching man! That is great advice. These are pretty heavy sheets (especially the one over the door), but it'll be cool to get some walls up eventually.
Sounds so smooth it’s like butter 🧈
thanks bro!
A drummer with Evan as a first name😉😎 great video
Thank you!
Dude nice! I can tell this was a fun video to film. Great beats too, some almost have a rap feel too them.
Thanks man! 😎 It's a jazzy fizzle
Very helpful, I’m struggle Zildjian a custom or zildjian s dark and k custom 😢,
I'm glad it helped you! Those are all great cymbals lines! If you are going to pick one out of those 3 choices (and have the budget), I'd personally go for the Zildjian k custom. Those are phenomenal sounding cymbals and are pretty versatile across a lot of different genres. If you have a budget, but want a similar sound/feel as k custom, I'd recommend going with the Zildjian s dark. Those are closer in the realm of Zildjian Ks, but a fraction of the cost.
I'm probably wrong for this, but I try to muscle my doubles out when I feel I have to (especially on the tom drums........that _blasted_ floor tom, smh; it's like striking molasses 😒). I do usually succeed with the rebounding technique, but I feel muscling them through gives me more control and beef with the double strokes, without the question of "Did I catch the rebound right?" I'm a fan of Moeller (I recently learned that I didn't do it as correctly as I thought I did.......but I'm still a fan, because it makes technique simpler). I just viewed a double stroke as two taps and went to town with it. 😅 Then eventually, I got my rebound game up.
Nice! and Moeller method is great for those extra hits! That floor tom can be a real pain to pump out those doubles on! Almost makes you wanna get bigger floor toms for more of a challenge 😆
@AttunedMusician 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Nah, man. It makes me wanna cheat. One of my drum sets got some 2 ply heads on em, and I'm gonna see if I get more rebound from them. Lol
Oooooooh, you got the rudiments cards?!?!?? A man of CULTURE!!!! I love to see it!!! EDIT: Also............nice edits. Lol. *Rimshot*
haha thanks! Those rudiment cards are a blast. I had got them at Guitar Center a few years ago and they come in handy for all these videos. Thanks for watching!
@@AttunedMusician No.....thank YOU!!! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Frankly, I still have exploring to do, but I decided to default to 5A (specifically 5A Nylon) because I'm a basic bitch who can't tell the difference unless it's obvious (like 2Bs bringing the wrath of GOD down onto the drums, and being _stoopid_ loud as a result). Unrelated note, when I tried 7As, I thought they would bring my volume down for free........I was wrong.......... _DEAD_ wrong. Lol. Back to the main plot, I did research, heard that 5As were good for literally everything, took the internet's word for it, and locked into 5As _HARD._ And they just worked for me and allowed me to access the range of soft to loud (which I needed for church, because sometimes you gotta drive and sometimes you gotta ease up). I was always heavy-handed, so I didn't need much help playing loud. 5As gave me what I needed, I got used to them, and I haven't had the need to upgrade. Especially if I couldn't really tell the difference between the two from where I stood. Lol. The only things I grew to desire specifically were (1) nylon tips to brighten up the cymbals and enhance my touch on them, and (2) Vic Firth sticks because that american flag on the fulcrum makes life SO much easier.
Yea, those nylon tips will bring your cymbals to life! And heard that about the Vic Firth sticks, that does make it easier to help find that fulcrum. I couldn't agree more about the 5as, they are (in my opinion), the most versatile sized stick. They also are easier on your hands which is a BIG plus for me.
@AttunedMusician Heard and heard. Now I'll admit, I might try out some 5Bs to see how they fare. They might be more comfortable since I got big hands. But how close are 5Bs to becoming 2Bs? Because I know I _definitely_ shouldn't get those. I'll damage everyone's hearing for sure. Lol. Is it a short hop to 2B loudness, or a moderate to long distance?
sounds kinda like II
Great vid man! The fulcrum exercise was helpful. Double strokes were always hard. Felt like I could only do it by awkwardly pinching the sticks on the sides and doing a “drumroll.”
Felt this. Double strokes are _still_ hard as heck for me to get right. Lol. The fulcrum, the bounce, and the open-close snap helps me out so much! 😁
I'm glad it was helpful! They definitely take a bit to get used to the feel
That is great! That open close snap is worth it to get some clean doubles
Very cool
Thanks man! I love it, I feel like the more I learn the more I realize I don’t know! Appreciate it! Keep it coming!! 💪🏻
hell yes pls
I'm about 1 year into learning. Soooo yeah, I've never really worked on rudiments yet. Oops. Maybe I should start.
You got this! Singles, double stroke rolls, and paradiddles are some great ones to start with.
I think the delayed one should be called a cymbal guillotine.
What is the black big thing that screws around above the foot pedal
That was beautiful man! Great song and great job!!! 💣 😎
Thanks bro!
Man, I wish we could get together.
That would be sick man
Nice job Evan! The vocals sound great to me. I am not familiar with the song, but it sounds solid. Drums always good. 🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁
I appreciate that! And thanks for checking it out too. 🙏
At 65 and a long time guitar player, I bought an electronic kit in 2020 for guests in my small studio/rehearsal space. I hacked around myself when no one was around; maybe 40-50 hours in three years. Bought an acoustic kit for myself in April '24 and learned to tune and set them up properly. Seven months later, at 69, I play 90-120 minutes average daily, using Air Pod Pros 2 and ear muff protection with tunes streaming from my phone. So much fun.
Go get’em!!
What instrument is that??
A 22" ride cymbal on a boom/straight combo stand
20" with a slightly smaller port hole works for me!
That 20 is a nice size! I never tried the smaller port hole sizes though (I think 5 inches is all I've ever done). I'd be interested to hear
All good points. I would add that for shorter drummers (like myself at 5' 2") a smaller bass drum allows for more ergonomic setups as any toms above the bass drum can be placed lower. Low end can be picked up/adjusted with head choice, muffling, mics. I love the sound of a bigger kick, for sure, but it's just not really feasible for me unless I keep my setup kind of offset or my toms at ridiculous angles. I have a 22" now but I would trade it in a heartbeat for a matching 20". Oh, and Hi, Spagz!
Space is definitely a great point and something that didn't cross my mind in making this video. You are absolutely right. The smaller kick drums will help with logistics and pulling everything closer to you. And same here! I have been lookin for 20" that matches my kit just to have variety from 24 to 20.
I still want a 26/14/16/18! But no space. I tried an 18 and not for me, except for jazz. Which I just don't play enough, so I sold it. I tried a 20. I liked it, but didn't love it. Went back to 22. I would love to get a 24 though. That seems like the perfect size for hard rock. Never played one. I do find I much prefer the shallower kicks like 22x16 or 22x14. The beater plays better, and I hear more punch and attack.
I hear ya there! I'd love to set up multiple kits with varying kick sizes and mic them all up 😆 Those shallower kicks do sound more pronounced and beefy 🥩
my next question is how does it affect a rim shot tone for the snare? is the 5A's gonna have more crack/pop tone or the other way around? the reason is, im playing at a church with modern liturgy where the song genres could vary from ballads to latin to dangdut in a session of sunday service. my snare is gretsch 10 ply all maple 6.5x14, changed the batter head with aquarian focus-x so i dont use any dampening / gels because no overtone ring. I tune my snare medium-high. bringing more than one snare is not an option (it could make a scene at church lol), so i also bought a standard BFSD to make the snare low tone. i want to explore more about having different sizes of sticks, if it will make a lot of difference. cz now i only got 7A sizes, it just feels right in my hand, all are promarks rebound balance with diff types (firegrain, activegrip and original; these 3 do make different tone out of snares and cymbals especially, been using them for years). What i haven't figure out how to make a crack/pop funk-ish snare tone, without tuning the snare way too high (thus sacrificing versatility for other songs), wonder if stick sizes (or if you have any other opinion) could lift it up a little bit.
Barrel or acorn tips would give you a fatter sound (with barrel probably having more punch), But you could also try sticks with a short taper, as that will give you a fatter sound and more projection. You could try to look for those and use 7a at first to see (since you are used to playing that size). Then, you could always move up to 5a with those things in mind and see if the extra weight gives you any more 'oomph.' I think with all the styles you're playing in church, 7a isn't a bad option
Hiya, just some constructive feedback for ya: 😊 Maybe it would be better if you showed the viewers how to play the paradiddles with a close up view of the hands at 60 bpm.
@@theegg-viator4707 that's a good point and I appreciate it. This video was more about taking the knowledge of paradiddles and just moving it to the hi hats and the snare. Although, maybe I'll make a video going over paradiddles and do some close ups/slower tempos. Thanks!
@@AttunedMusician 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Paradiddles *💨 💩* 🤣😂
Sounds awesome!
I’m guessing 48 wood shavings 😂

Kicking ass while staying relaxed, love it
Both sound great. Are they tuned exactly to the same pitch? The 6.5 seems to be tuned lower than the 5.5.
@@juancarlosbrenes4741 thanks! Yea, I tuned the 5.5 quite a bit higher
@@AttunedMusician Thank you!
From my time in punk bands I've learned the actual answer: turn up the guitar amps!
@@andrevandervlies5700 you definitely ain't wrong!
I have 1 volume and that's loud. I'm working on ghost notes right now. I'm playing on an ekit. It feels like I'm barely tapping those ghost notes but it's still kinda loud through my headphones. I'm sure I could change the trigger settings and whatnot but for now I'm just going to leave it until I get to a regular acoustic snare and then see how quiet they actually are. They are probably loud haha.
That's a good point! The trigger setting can be tricky and also annoying to work with haha. But I'm sure those ghost notes will translate over nicely to the acoustic snare since you've been chipping away at them.
Your videos are so helpful as a beginner drummer :D Thank you! Keep it up :D
As committed as I am to the Four Piece Theory, the floor tom is where it’s at.
Absolutely, it is the pinnacle of all toms lol
I feel like I’m going to go on a safari when I hear those kinda drums
I used to play 7A sticks for all styles but the power/volume just wasn't there for full band/pub rock gigs but perfect for small jazz gigs. I now use 5a maple mainly for everything but sticks are just tools, pick the right one for the job.
Same here! 7A is great for low volume settings, but I need a little more power as well haha
I like the lofi type stuff in the back, reminds me of the song weightless
Heck yea, that song rocks!
Play to the song. What the song needs.
Absolutely
